$50 million gone just like that! I'm not sure what to make of one-year of Sanchez. Rortvedt at least had some promise, especially defensively.

Is Gio a third baseman, or do they try him at shortstop?

Maybe they also have a deal for Sanchez.  Miranda had nothing left to prove at St. Paul, does that mean Urshela plays SS.  I know he played some there, but don't think he was that good.  Maybe we needed Sanchez to get an Oakland pitcher, but this makes little sense to me.  Donaldson I can understand if the Twins were rebuilding and he would probably not want to be here.

Everyone on this board is a better defensive catcher than Sanchez. And, they have no shortstop again. And urshela? I have no idea what they are doing. They are worse at catcher and still have no shortstop.

Exactly this! I am dumbfounded, confused and upset! What the heck do we want with Sánchez and Urshela?

Yeah, I don't understand what the plan is here. Urshela might be a bounceback candidate, but he also was never good until 2019, so 1 good season plus the short covid year isn't a lot to base it on. Sanchez was bad last year and worse in the short covid year. (He's also a butcher behind the plate) If they're clearing salary to get a better SS (Story? I'm not even going to pretend with in on Correa) then I can get this. But right now, it's a mess. Of course, considering how much has changed for this team in like a day, things could change a lot more in a few more days?

I liked Rortvedt, but I'm not sure he's going to hit enough to be anything other than a backup intended to only get 20-30 games a season.

They just dealt from the future for a pitcher.... So ?

I know ... but still ... what???? At this point, it doesn't feel like much of a team

I can hardly wait for the Twin’s explanation of this.

Looks like a salary dump to me!

They might be making room to add Story. Let’s hope that’s the case.

Exactly what it is! Sanchez n Gio make a combined $14m and we shipped out over $27m. Sanchez is in his walk year and unless he has a great couple months, he won't bring value in the trade market

One of my first thoughts after the Rangers trade was that acquiring Kiner-Falefa was a good way to hedge on whether Lewis stays at shortstop. They could give Lewis time to stick and if they learned this year that he wouldn't, then they still have a SS next year. If Lewis is ready to play SS in the majors next year, you've got a great utility guy.

I guess that line of thinking wasn't so important to them after all. Or the Yankees wanted to do that approach (keeping a spot warm for their top SS prospect) more than the Twins did.

This makes sense if it's clearing payroll for Story, but that starts to look like a bet against Lewis sticking at short too. I dunno.

Why!?  Gary Sanchez can’t play defense, unless you think you can change something there.
I don’t see much difference between Garver and Sanchez.  So you basically just gave Donaldson away.

They basically gave Garver away yesterday, or didn't you notice?

The only thing that comes to mind is Kevin Costner in Draft Day. “Give me 5 minutes while I work things out.”

There’s got to be a lot more to come. I like the idea of Story, but why not Correa instead? Arraez and Kepler or Sanchez and minor league prospect (maybe Lewis) to Reds for Castillo?

I was looking forward to watching our rag tag bunch of misfits from last year :)

oh well. Go Twins!

This is such a Rays move ... get rid of most of your team every year ... so you never know who is on it ever :)

I don't understand this one at all. I had considered grabbing Urshela and Sanchez since I was pretty sure the Yankees didn't want them on the roster but figured the Yankees would be giving up prospects to the Twins to make it happen.

The Twins have no reason to dump salary. Their payroll is low. This is like a Mariners trade where Jerry DiPoto is just moving players to feel like he's in charge.

My first thought when I saw this story pop up (and after I got my head to stop spinning) was that this MUST be the prelude to a Trevor Story signing.  Why else make these moves unless you intend to move Donaldson's $$$ off the books and add Story to the payroll, changing out a Gold Glove caliber 3B-man in Urshela and a solid glove at SS in Story.  Urshela is very similar to Kiner-Falefa defensively without the speed but with more consistent power.  Sanchez is a power bat, probably too similar to Sano but with 30-HR potential.
