nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 This is as depressing as trade deadline day. If the Pohlad's are staying, they have to take the keys away from Joe and give them back to Jim. Joe has no clue what he's doing and is completely tone deaf, and his AI announcement letter posted above shows he still hasn't learned. glunn, GeorgeLooney, Wedman13 and 8 others 11
laloesch Verified Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Good and bad. Investors will expect high revenues, they always do. Given the Pohlads dumped over 400 million in other debts onto the team I'm not at all hopeful for a return to 2023 and 2024 payrolls. That shuffling of debt was a bad move by the Pohlads. Justin Ishbia was in a position to buy the franchise outright and while i don't have the direct proof, the shuffling of the debt from the Pohlads floundering commercial real-estate holdings to the Twins likely torpedoed that deal along with a very high asking price to start with. It means one of two things. The Pohlads were desperate to dump their debts and made a silly stupid decision and are now stuck with an asset they can't unload or they weren't as determined to sell the franchise as they sounded in their public statements meaning the revenues are still coming in from the Twins in healthy amounts, enough to make it advantageous to hold onto. Investors can be a good and a bad thing. They should hold the owners responsible for their actions making a competitive team a priority, but if they are more focused on bottom line they could encourage the worst tendencies in the Pohlads to be dirt cheap and pile up money to pay down those debts quickly. The dirt is in the details. How much control and pressure will the have on the Pohlads? Will they be hands off or more direct putting pressure on them? I guess only time will tell. Either way, very dissapointing. I think (myself included) many fans were hoping for a fresh change in ownership and leadership, this smells like more of the same, just adding a few more cooks in the kitchen, but still a bad head chef in charge. They were responsible for bringing in Connelly. They can not run it back with Falvey in charge, so we will know fairly quickly in the offseason what influence the limited partners have. I suspect that both Falvey and Rocco will now be around for as long as they want to stay. While I don't wish ill will towards either of them, neither one are what I would consider as astute, in a baseball sense, when it comes to team building and overall team management. But, it appears as though we'll need to suffer having them around the franchise for sometime to come. A real mule kick to the gut this news is for any diehard Twins fan (like I am)! Gotta take a few breaths. There’s obvious payroll flexibility for next season, even if they just go back to 2025 $ total. They have probably 6 starting level guys on their roster for position players. 2-3 guys from farm system ready by June of ‘26 if not on opening day. They have 3-4 guys that are suitable for depth/platoon roles (i.e. Lee & Clemens). Need Catching replacement & DH from FA market OR via trade in offseason. Rotation is in very good shape relative to talent & depth going forward. PEN needs a couple FA signings……..lots of young options/arms to fill roles recently left void. nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Maybe this isn't the end of the situation as Manfred was JUST saying a deal was right around the corner. Are the other owners aware of this new arrangement? Or did he just drop the news to everyone all at once, because based on Joe's track record, there likely was no strategy to any of this. The other owners are going to have to approve the limited partners. and the other owners aren't going to want the Twins to be a perennial revenue recipient team. This market hasn't always and doesn't need to be a revenue sharing recipient, but the other owners have to know it will be if the Pohlad's are still running things. Maybe they'll throw us a Hail Mary and not approve the limited partners. shimrod and glunn 2

rdehring Verified Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 I am probably among the minority, but I can see good days ahead for the Twins. But for guys my age those days better be soon. I expect most are correct and this is the result of their not getting the number they wanted. Based on what I read here several days ago the debt isn't outside debt as stated above, rather debt related to their investment in Target Field when built and ongoing enhancements to the ballpark. Expect they also took a big hit during the pandemic. But it sure seems that debt was the issue that muddied the waters when trying to sell. Will be interesting to see who these two investor groups are. Have seen mention that the Cambria family may have been interested. Also curious if one of the groups could include several former Twins? If so, hopefully they will be allowed to provide input into the makeup of the team. The FO recently set the team up for a rebuild. Considering what was given up, hopefully most of the key players brought in will be as good as expected. The starting rotation will be strong next spring. And that's a great starting point. Hopefully, the financial re-set will enable them to begin building around that strength and the Twins will be competitive....soon! FilthyMogwai, glunn and cjm0926 2 1

I don't, and I think that winter trades of Pablo and Ryan are now MUCH more likely than not -- and I was a guy saying it wouldn't happen. Regardless of who that have and what's coming, do you really think that this is the ownership group to nurture and develop that team into a winner? Again, seems unlikely at best.

Dave Overlund Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 I took my kid to the game on Sunday. Got 'free' tickets from Kwik Trip, took the Northstar into town, brought our own food/snacks/drinks in a cooler and got $10 in 'free' concessions for signing up for the My Twins scam. This is the way. I'm not strong enough to quit the Twins, but I will be extremely mindful about spending money with them until they show a willingness to do otherwise. Pepperidge Farm remembers the Twins Daily article that claimed that the team was likely to be sold before Opening Day. All I can say is... ugh. This is the worst possible news Twins fans could get. Battle ur tail off Verified Member Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 Terrible news but not surprising. Do you really think the Pohlads are going to dump this cash cow, especially when their other business entities are struggling? This is basically just someone giving them a loan on the bad debt they have placed from other parts of Pohlads Inc onto the Twins. Expect the next few years to be a total teardown player roster wise. My guess though, is that Falvey and Rocco work for CHEAP, so they will be retained. Welcome back to 1993-2000. That is what we are in for. Too bad with Target field and that run they had a few years ago, but the Twins are over with and most likely back to being a sports afterthought in this state once again.
