    I also think that this would be a good starting point for Tom Pohlad to start investing in the team. It's not signing a $300M+ free agent, but it's a reasonable first major task.

    I think this would be a fantastic idea. All pitcher contracts are risky, but even more risky is to not have good pitchers. If something like 6/$75M would get it done, that seems like a good ballpark to be in. It would cost the Twins some money in the near term but likely be a bargain on the back end.

    Roden needs to start hitting pretty much immediately if he's going to stick on the Twins major league club. There are simply too many high upside guys on his heels (or is he on their heels actually) in AAA that are going to pass him up. You're absolutely correct in that he hasn't had enough at major league at bats to know who he will become, but the clock is ticking in a big way for him and he needs to do SOMETHING to earn some more at bats so he can prove it.

    True. It's amazing that people don't realize that EVERY. SINGLE. PLAYER. in the major and minor leagues was a star at their previous level. Then they all continue to be stars. . . until they don't, and then we are disappointed. For some it happens immediately. For some it takes a year or two of teasing us. Some make it all the way to the majors before we find out that they aren't quite who we anticipated them to be. That being said, I like this group more than the last group, but there's a long way to go before we know how this will turn out.

    It always cracks me up when the national guys like Passan come up with "Great Trade Targets" or "So and So Would Fill A Position of Great Need", without mentioning any concept of what the return would need to be. Anybody can do that -- and it sure gets clicks! You know, it would be great to trade for Shohei Ohtani - playoff starter and slugger. He would really fill some needs, especially if the Dodgers would pick up all of his deferred money because we threw in Austin Martin and Kody Clemens! That's not happening either.

    As always, whether to pull the trigger depends on the return. The only way I trade Ryan at the deadline is if I think the return is a big overpay. It could happen, but only if there is some sort of bidding war for him — a bidding war (possibly with more participants) that might just as easily occur over the winter. Yes. He could be injured and ruin his value. Yes, it is unlikely that we will re-sign him. If you say that with every good player, then you effectively shorten your team control over your best players by one or two years. However, Joe Ryan is the obvious anchor on the pitching staff, and for all the fawning over Lopez (who I like A LOT), probably has been for the past couple of years. If we trade him at the deadline, we are absolutely flushing away what has been a pretty fun season with the team doing a little bit of overachieving. IF Tom Pohlad is serious about building a winner, now is not a great time to take a step backward. As for other players, again, it all depends on return. But I would definitely explore trading Larnach, Jeffers, and Martin. We have replacements on hand in Roden, Caratini/Jackson, and Keaschall, and if we can acquire pieces (ahem. . . relief pitching) that will help us down the stretch and beyond, we would be putting our efforts into areas of higher priority for now and building for next year.

    Bradley is younger and better, with more years of control. Barring injury (which really can’t be factored in either way), It seems pretty likely that the Twins made a good call here. If Jax goes on to have some good success, there will be people here lamenting it. However, they forget that we can’t have them both, only one, and for my money, the best is Bradley.

    Considering that two of those players haven’t even sniffed the majors yet, I would likely tap the brakes a bit. It would, however, be nice if we had some players develop and transition to the majors more seamlessly than we’ve had in the past. Let’s hope this all comes true.

    This. Exactly. Why are we always treated to click bait headlines that imply some sort of existential crisis? There's a promotional problem, or is there cause for concern, or logjam in the starting rotation, or too many outfielders. For this article, might I suggest "Wallner, Jenkins, and Roden working their way back into the Twins' plans" or even "Reinforcements in the Outfield are on their way". Please. Just the facts ma'am.

    I'm a fan, but at this point it's all just speculation and projection. Remember 2023, when our current top of the rotation arm in Joe Ryan wasn't trusted to start the third game of a playoff series? Point is, it takes time for that development to happen and many things can derail it along the way. I'm hopeful. I'm optimistic, but I think it is too early to burden Abel with that kind of label.

    The bottom line is that it doesn't really matter what guys like Bowden write. If Buxton has made up his mind, it seems pretty unlikely that it will change -- especially after not changing in August/September of last year's debacle. Could teams come to the Twins with a ridiculous offer? Sure, but I'm pretty sure they know the score and won't bother. Bowden just wants clicks, that's all.

    He’s doing great so far, but would probably need to find a completely different gear to accelerate to the MVP, plus if the Twins have fallen completely out of contention, that’s going to be a drag on his candidacy as well. Let’s just enjoy it while it lasts!

    Nope. No dilemma - not even a minor one. Absolute worst case scenario IF they actually are all healthy and develop as expected is that a couple go to the bullpen and a couple are traded. Try as I might, I can't think of a situation where having too many starting pitchers is a problem of any sort. Let's hope we're the first.

    There have certainly been players who were his equal or better, but the combination of his talent, the economics of it all, and his loyalty is really something special. I'm in the camp of not wanting to see him traded, but I certainly won't blame him if it goes that direction. Maybe his legacy could ultimately be as the guy whose trade return set the Twins up for a better future. Not as good as "Led team to WS championship", but much better than our current situation.

    The problem with envisioning an infield+DH or Culpepper, Houston, Lee, Keaschall, and Lewis is that none of them can be written in in more than pencil at this point. Not one of them seems like a lock. I'm guessing that at least one will right the ship and become a strong regular, but right now they all have their warts and all need to fix a lot of things between hitting and fielding. We are a very long ways from having a "good problem" at this point. I hope it develops, but I believe it's an extremely premature worry.

    Slow down a little folks. We've seen torrid hot streaks from Royce Lewis several times before. Unfortunately they are followed by periods where he is almost unplayable. I'm hoping the "recovery" is for real this time, but I don't think it's time to go out and buy the Royce jersey yet. Let's see what he does for the rest of the season.

    Worrying doesn’t occur for a 20 year old. He’s going to (and needs to) take some lumps before he becomes the best version of himself. How well he continues to learn and adjust is the important thing here.

    Excellent article, but again, the hard work remains. His trip to St. Paul allowed him to fatten up against lesser competition in an offensively charged environment. I’m sure that was fun. Finding consistency with the Twins is going to be much harder than continuing to dominate AAA. I hope he succeeds. It’s going to take a little while to know for sure.

    Agreed. The best case for him would seem to be if he can keep improving enough defensively to warrant a backup (not time-share) catcher slot in the majors. Catchers, however, do develop at a little different pace than others, so you never know.

    Wait a minute. You want to trade Joe Ryan for one top 100 prospect and change? Nope. Trading a guy (or not) is ALWAYS dependent on return. Go ahead and trade him, but the return needs to be much more substantial than that. Otherwise, he can play another year for the home team.

    Both. Put in complete revenue sharing and and add an NFL-style salary structure. It seems to work very well in football and would be worth a try in MLB. Getting the owners and players on board, however, would be quite a feat.

    I’m guessing that if his swing mechanics that worked in spring training were still working, there would have been no reason to fix him. However . . .
