  1. Still should bring up Fedko or Gonzalez. Or both.
  2. This Season appears to be well-cursed.
  3. Cardinals have the best jerseys in all of pro sports.
  4. But.....I thought we were going to be competitive? Like I said on Friday afternoon, this series is a good litmus test. The Twins failed. Time for Culpepper, a couple young OF's, and get the trade machine warmed up. The Fat Lady is in the middle of the song and it is time to change over this entire roster. Now, while you still have a few fans left that care.
  5. Like I posted earlier, this series is a good litmus test for the balance of the season. The Tigers are not good, but if they beat up the Twins we are confirmed to be non-competitive and can go forward for the balance of the season recognizing that reality. Trade Ryan (if they don't/can't/are unable to extend him), trade Jeffers, trade Larnach, trade Buxton if he wants out, and call up all the youngsters and let them have an extended chance to get MLB experience and see if they can play at this level. Think 1982 Twins. If you are going to lose a lot of games, let it be with the young players that might potentially have a future instead of this land of misfit toys filled with old never-will-be players. I daresay the fans would rather watch that product that the existing one....
  6. I think this series will have an impact on the looming trade deadline. Drop 2 or 3 to the Tigers and we slide into the depths of the mediocre Central and can start looking to the future.... Sweep and there is a glimmer of hope.
  7. This is simple: Either extend Ryan or trade him IF the value is there. They don't have to trade him, so you only do so if you feel you are getting excellent trade compensation. There is ZERO indication the Twins FO wants to---or has even tried--to extend Ryan. So listen to offers and if they are blown away, do the deal. Ryan's starts for this team for the balance of 2026 are going to be largely meaningless. and 2027 is in labor dispute limbo for now. And if MLB actually gets some labor agreement with sanity injected, the Twins can extend their young players and go from there.
  8. I sincerely wonder if Wallner makes either of those plays.
  9. Wow! What a nice couple of throws by Martin!!!!!! So fun to see plays at the plate, especially when they go your way!
  10. I do agree that the Brewers are probably not a good fit for Jeffers with Contreras. Probably need to find someone else for him to go to. Should have plenty of options.
  11. So, in your opinion, the Brewers would turn down Ryan for Made straight up? You could be right, but that is probably a fair trade, especially if they talk to Ryan's agent about an extension. Hell, they could play him until the 2027 trade deadline and get a darn good return again, or tender him for a Comp Pick. I wouldn't trade Ryan for Williams straight up, not enough value coming back to Twins IMO. Anyone else with thoughts?
  12. Takes quality to get quality. And they are DEEP in SS prospects. It would be a bold move by the Brewers, but it might win them a WS.
  13. The Brewers have a chance at a World Series. They have a stacked farm system. The Twins are not going to re-sign either one of these players. Once Jeffers returns to health, something along the lines of: Joe Ryan and Ryan Jeffers for Jesus Made, Luis Lara and Jeferson Quero. Brewers get a top line SP, and a starting C with a good stick. Twins get a superb SS prospect, a strong OF prospect who could replace Buxton eventually in CF, and a young C with strong defense. This really bolsters the Twins D down the line with young, athletic, fast players. And they can probably hit well, too. Add or subtract to make the principal terms acceptable.
  14. Plenty of blame to go around for that dismal loss. Not as bad as 8-0, but still not good.
  15. The Twins SHOULD offer him a nice extension. It would be good faith to their best pitcher, and it would be good faith for their (dwindling) fan base. However, I doubt he would sign one anyways. But the Twins won't offer an extension anyways. And if that is true, they should certainly trade him. This their sad reality.
  16. No matter how it stacks up, the Twins should be able to draft and excellent player at 3. No lose scenario, really.
  17. For the love of the Almighty let's have an honest assessment of this roster after this weekend and MAKE SOME CHANGES. Dump all the old wood, make Larnach a DH only against righties, bring up some young players and that would at least keep SOME interest in the team. This rogue's gallery of ineptitude is un-watchable. NO MORE RETREADS.
  18. I also truly question the assertion the players don't care about competitiveness. I think they do. Everyone likes to play on a winning team. No one wants to play on a basement team. If the players think a Minnesota or a Colorado have a legit chance to compete under a new CBA, they will no longer have to pay a "premium" to potential FA's. Parity is good for the teams, the players and, most importantly, the fans.
  19. Here is a good way to look at this situation, IMO. In the NFL, there is NO DISCUSSION about eliminating the hard cap and floor. ZERO. Why? Because it works. Contracts have evolved, good players are getting a ton more guaranteed money than they did 5 years ago, but all good. Same for NHL and NBA. But MLB? NO. Somehow this sport is uniquely unsuited to a fair, hard cap and floor because of what reason? Is there something about the nature or baseball as a game vs. the other major sports that differentiates its labor situation? NO!!!! It is the historical precedent of a very powerful union that has manhandled a weak, fractious, disparate ownership group. Nothing more, nothing less. There is plenty of money to go around and compensate the players even better, keep the owners rich, and improve the competitiveness of the game. It is TIME to step up and make it happen. But, saying all that, I remain skeptical that anything significant will get done.
  20. I think the MLB proposal is certainly a step in the right direction. BUT: 1) They have to agree to open their books so the Players know what they are negotiating; 2) There has to be FULL revenue sharing based on 1; 3) I would prefer a tighter "gap" between the ceiling and floor similar to the NFL; 4) They have to figure out what to do with existing deferred contracts--reducing them to present value makes the most sense logically; 5) Compromise and raise the minimum salary floor to the $1.5M figure the players want. That will garner a LOT of votes from the players union if hundreds of players suddenly double their income in their early years in the league; 6) Raise the base salaries for MiLB players, too; 7) Probably makes sense to cut down the maximum length of contracts, too, although this one the Players will really not like. This would be an EXCITING change to MLB and restore competitiveness. I hope and pray they can get something like this done. If the Players end up with more guaranteed money in their collective pockets, the Owners should be able to fashion a deal that is fair to both sides and get it approved.
  21. I didn't even bother to turn this game on. Seriously, what is interesting or exciting about this team if their SP is no good? Their lineup is moribund, their D is spiteful, and they are OLD. Once again, I renew my plea to bring up young players and let them see if they sink or swim in the majors. Otherwise, there is nothing to see here.
  22. Cripes, why not Gonzalez play? He is only here for a few days, let's see what the youngster can do! He looked poised last night against a pretty tough lefty with a power arm.
  23. I see no logical reason NOT to trade Jeffers if he comes back strong and can garner a nice return. He is gonzo after the end of the year. What difference does it make if he plays an extra couple months here? Ryan, either sign him to an extension (highly, highly unlikely) or trade him. He should have tremendous value to a deep pockets team that can sign him to an extension. I would love to see Twins re-sign him, but it is never going to happen so move him for a haul. Larnach, Bell, Rogers--all rentals and if you get something enticing, sure. Buxton. Whoo-boy, you better be careful here. He is having a terrific season and is on a BARGAIN contract. If the Brinks truck backs up, take a look inside. Teams like the Yankees and Dodgers would love him, and it sure would be fun to watch Byron play some post-season baseball. See no reason to move controllable players like Martin. Ober, I would listen. Going to be an very interesting trade deadline in all likelihood.
