Ty France Part II, the Sequel. Seriously, a decent player but does not move the needle much. The Twins roster is like an older car that you really should trade in, but, instead, you spend money on it to keep it running down the road. It gets you to a destination, just not anywhere great. They are obviously just treading water at this point. Expect about 70-75 wins. Whoopee! (This also kills the Eldridge dream, apparently....) Finally, we can always flip him at the trade deadline if we suck and he is doing well.

The simple answer to the question posed is: No. Because apparently this FO and Ownership define "build around" as spending $10-15M as a short-term bandaid to a failed roster. Either extend Jeffers, Ryan and start signing the young players to long extensions or blow things up. Trying the proverbial "competitive rebuild" will work as well for the Twins as it has for the Vikings so far. Since we know they will not do the former, please do the latter. The middle ground is just mediocrity and apathy-inducing.

Twins payroll is less than Dodgers luxury tax
SteveLV replied to thelanges5's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I love that piece of data. If that doesn't show that MLB's financial model is completely broken and unfair, I don't know what does. Sheesh. -
The Twins are All-In on Royce Lewis (Again)
SteveLV replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Do you mean Lewis will be the token Twins All Star representative, or that he will earn it? If the latter, there is NOTHING in the last 300 games that suggests he is that caliber of player. We can hope and dream, but this is a remote possibility at this point. Remote is probably putting it kindly. I know we are fans, but we also need to be objective. Over the last 2 seasons he has 728 AB's, a .236 BA, .701 OPS, a 21% K rate, and a declining 7.1% BB rate. He produced 1.3 WAR COMBINED between 2024 and 2025. Defensively, he is a below average MLB 3B with a .958 fielding percentage, league average is .964. He is -3 DRS at 3B. Plus, he has been frequently injured. That is simply not even close to All Star production from the 3B position. Quite frankly, he does not have a job in MLB for good teams. He is in AAA or traded to a bad team. Like the Twins. Could he suddenly transform? Sure, anything is possible, but certainly unlikely. (By the way, I hope I am wrong about Lewis and he becomes a stud. It is just not a likely outcome at this point, but I will cheer him on!)- 36 replies

Big whoop. So they can apparently go up to about $115M. I am sure the Dodgers are busy scouting the Twins so they can figure out how to beat us in the World Series./s This is such a meaningless exercise. This is not anywhere close to a top, competitive roster. Why are you adding a "mid tier" player? So we can win a couple more meaningless games? Totally disagree with this approach. Either show you really mean it, extend Jeffers, extend Ryan, lock up Jenkins on a long deal, and spend the money to sign someone "top tier", or stop wasting our time. Alternatively, trade all the older players, load up on youngsters, play them, and see who excels and who flops and go from there. Going down the middle just guarantees mediocrity.

Send him to the Dodgers. They are loaded as heck, he would have an excellent chance to win a few World Series, an excellent capstone to his career. Dodgers have tons of OF prospects to load up on. It would be waiving the white flag for 2026, but so be it.

The Giants are considering trading Eldridge
SteveLV replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Apparently he played all year with it and had a clean up procedure after the season. Twins fans' understandable leary of this condition given Kiriloff, but the articles I found and read seemed to downplay the significance of the cleanup and expect him to be 100% almost immediately. -
The Giants are considering trading Eldridge
SteveLV replied to Riverbrian's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
It would have to be Eldridge plus some more, but a great framework for a trade if they are going to move Ryan. -
People are posting that 3/$30M gets Jeffers to sign an extension. Isn't that the same deal the Twins paid Vasquez 3 years ago? That would surprise me, as Jeffers is clearly the better hitter, less skilled defensively, but salaries have gone up over last 3 years, too. I think it would take more than that unless Jeffers wants to stay here, ala home town discount. Certainly the Twins should float and extension offer, and if that is rejected, dangle him out there and see who is biting, and at what price.

This would be, IMO, a huge mistake. They might get to 85 wins if the injury bug stays away, but where are they going then???? If they want to make us believe, then open up the wallet, let the moths fly out, and sign Ryan and Jeffers to extensions. THEN we can believe. Otherwise threading the needle to mediocrity does NOTHING. This team played .333 baseball after the All Star break. Sure, they get Lopez back hopefully healthy, but what else is going to change? Jenkins is Willie Mays and ERod is Roberto Clemente? This would be severely disappointing. I love Buxton, love Lopez, like Ryan, but they have no future on this team if they are not going to give extensions to their best players.

Mets Interested In Trading For Joe Ryan
SteveLV replied to Cody Christie's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Bad trade for the Twins, IMO. BBTV seriously undervalues Buxton, and why are the Twins trading Mathews? He is young and fits their time profile. Sorry to criticize, just my honest feedback. Love McLean and Tong, lukewarm on the other 2. Not sure the Twins need yet another 2B. -
Why Minnesota Twins Should Sign Miguel Andujar
SteveLV replied to Cory Moen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He cost $? Ok, not interested. [Twins FO hangs up phone] *curtain drops* -
For Joe Ryan at $5.8M, I bet they would and give us extra, too. Eldridge is blocked on their roster and did not exactly tear up AAA. But I want a big masher at 1B is Wallner can't play the position (allegedly).

Let's put it this way: Which team would you want to watch on opening day? The team they ran out there the second half of 2025, or: Lopez SP, Alvarez (Mets) C, Lewis 3B, Culpepper/Lee SS, Keaschall 2B, Eldridge (Giants) 1B, Roden, Rodriguez, and Jenkins OF, Wallner DH. Fitz, Martin and Clemens utility. Ober, Mathews, Festa, Abel, SWR, Bradley, Prielipp, Funderburk, Ohl, Klein, Sands, Adams, Morris and Raya rest of staff. I vote the SECOND option by a MILE. Jeffers and Buxton go to Mets for Alvarez and whoever else, and Ryan headlines deal to Giants for Eldridge plus. If you fall out of contention, entertain offers for Lopez at the trade deadline.

Passan: Buxton Willing To Waive No-Trade Clause
SteveLV replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
T&R, we are in complete agreement that they cannot simply roll out the same lineup that was so disastrous last half of the year--the stands would be empty. I prefer an aggressive rebuild with basically anyone at or near 30 years old or on a short contract be shipped out and get younger, faster, and much better defensively. A good example is Jeffers. He is a decent C, a pretty good hitter at that position, but is in his last year, is represented by Boras, and is effectively gone. Let's move him for young assets. I suggested a package to the Mets to snag their 24 year old starting C Alvarez as an example of getting younger, and, hopefully, better down the road and GIVE THE FANS HOPE! -
Passan: Buxton Willing To Waive No-Trade Clause
SteveLV replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
First, next year can't be any worse than the last halves of 2024 and 2025. This team was atrocious! Second, Tony&Rodney, I will be you a Target Field Hot Dog with all the fixin's that MLB loses games in 2027. I think it is inevitable. -
Why The Twins Shouldn’t Sign Rhys Hoskins
SteveLV replied to Jason Wang's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Because: 1) He's old 2) He's in decline and 3) He costs $. And 3 trumps 1 and 2 for this current ownership anyways. -
Passan: Buxton Willing To Waive No-Trade Clause
SteveLV replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
My hope is that if they dump massive existing salaries via trade that they do their darndest to extend a BUNCH of the young players starting with Jenkins to those 8 year, $80M type contracts to lock them in for a long time. That would give fans hope and direction for the franchise. -
Riverbrian, did you mean Bryce Eldridge from the Giants? I think any trade of either Ryan or Lopez to the Giants has to include Eldridge plus some other talent. He is really the only top flight prospect I see in their system, and he has had a cup of coffee and is still 20. I would have zero problem with Eldridge being the centerpiece of a Giants trade of one of our SP's......
