  1. rather than Framber Valdez. I knew we were going to use that open spot for a pitcher, and it is a toss up which might be more effective. :) Career ERA of 9 over 91 innings. Good arm, just no control, and no options. Rather have Lawerson back quite frankly....
  2. Designated for assignment by Angels after they picked him up in November. We certainly saw worse bullpen innings than he briefly provided last year......Solid in AAA.
  3. There were 2 political comments early in the thread. This website is terrific, and I would hate for it to descend into something like Canus Hoopus for the Wolves. Yech.
  4. Shocking announcement, bizarre timing. Note: PLEASE no politics here guys. Let's talk Twins and MLB Baseball. If we go down the politics rabbit hole it will ruin the discussions. A lot of hot opinions on all sides of these political issues....
  5. Don't like that SD trade. Why would the Twins want to take back that Pivetta contract? Maybe a 3-way where another team takes him and the Twins get more young, cheap, controllable players??? Also don't want the 23 year old "prospect" who can't hit in AA.
  6. If San Fran does not want to trade Eldridge, I don't see anything in the Giants farm that works for Ryan. They have a 44th ranked SS prospect who is 18 in Rookie ball and nothing else too exciting. Baltimore seems highly unlikely to move Basallo right after signing him to long extension to lock up all his arbitration years. Absent Basallo, nothing else in their farm moves the needle much, even though they do need SP. Yankees and BoSox may still be looking for SP. Who else?
  7. 15 games under .500. Difficult to argue with that. Vegas has them at 17 games under.
  8. Litany of Twins who shined and then crashed. How about Jose Miranda for cripes sake? Pitchers figure these guys out and they apparently can't adjust and it is over.
  9. I liked Julien's swing, until it went bad. I never like Julien's glove. Uggh. Flyer RHRP and some $. $ always good to this ownership group. Stacking the Benjamins after trading journeyman C yesterday, too.
  10. I wonder where Gonzalez would fall in this ranking. Obviously outside top 100, but he sure seems to have a great stick.
  11. So does that mean if Ryan has a decent year, and both sides decline the mutual option, he is then a FA in 2027? I am confused and concerned......
  12. Absolute Gentleman. Ran into him at the Cabela's parking lot about 10 years ago and he took the time to chat ball with me for about 10 minutes. Could not have been nicer. Congratulations, Sir.
  13. Isn't it also possible that the very top players can select which organizations they want to sign a deal with? It certainly seems reasonable a young man might be more interested in signing with the Yankees than the Twins if the money is similar. One organization is a winner, the other is not.
  14. So the tippy top prospect is not even in the top 30, ranked 34? Can't say this is impressive at face value. Hope they hit the lottery on a couple of these young men!
  15. Jeffers trade incoming is the only thing that makes sense. If not, very puzzling way to spend limited resources.....Does he have any connections with Shelton or the coaching staff????
  16. $30M is deferred. Rest is all paid per contract year and fully guaranteed, of course. They don't care. They are swimming in money.
  17. I am glad this happened. This "game" is so rigged it is not even funny now. The best FA goes to the returning World Champs who are outspending everyone and embarrassing the concept of competitiveness. 2027's work stoppage cannot come fast enough. Our collective angst over the 25th and 26th spots on a lousy roster are laughable in the context of this move. Carry on.
  18. JD-Twins, I think you need to think about how the Arbitration process works. The Twins are there with their lawyers. Joe Ryan is there with his Agents who are also lawyers. Then each side presents their "Case" to the Arbitrator as to why their figure is the one to select. That involves the Team pointing out the weaknesses in the players' performance to argue why their lower figure is fair. Imagine Ryan sitting there and listening to the team's representatives identifying his alleged shortcomings. If you don't think that is problematic, I don't think you are realistic, forgive me for saying so. I have handled hundreds of Arbitrations. You can be as decent and polite as possible, but there are inevitably hard feelings at the end. They should--and still can--just split the difference and move on. The Goodwill is important, even if they don't plan to sign him long-term. Players talk to each other, and you don't want the players to have an adversarial relationship with management, although this team may have already torpedoed any Goodwill with the trade deadline moves last year.....
  19. Still pursuing their quest to accumulate ALL the sub .200 hitters possible on their roster. We got another one!
  20. If you think about it, I don't this this FO could have found 4 WORSE hitters to bring in. I am pretty confident the handful of players who are worse that these 4 are no longer playing MLB. Incredibly disappointing acquisitions. But hardly unexpected.
  21. 2nd worse hitter in MLB last year of players with at least 200 AB's. Perfect!
  22. 4 pages of comments on picking up this guy? We must be all off work and bored out of our minds......
  23. More milling at the bottom of the roster to no effect. Nothing to see here. Move on.
  24. USAFChief and others, you are wasting your time going back and forth with Bean5302. He is a complete apologist for this broken system. Everyone else knows it is on life support if they want a truly competitive, fair MLB. He is blind to that reality. When the Dodgers spend more in taxes than 12 other teams do for their entire player budget, that should be sufficient evidence to any logical mind.
