  1. I wonder if you strapped Zolle to a lie detector and asked him if he regrets the decision to offer the Arb contract to Larnach what he would say?
  2. And the deterioration of downtown Minneapolis is not helping anything, either. I have friends that refuse to go there for a game now who used to regularly attend. It is too bad, as I love the stadium itself and they did a great job shoehorning it into that tight location.
  3. They are a bottom 5 team on paper. PLUS, they are not bringing up their young players so there is little reason to go to the games and pay money to watch older, never-going-to-be-good or great players run around the field and flail away at the plate. I would much rather watch a 95 loss team that is loaded with youngsters ala the 1982 Twins. If Tom Pohlad wants to REALLY build up trust with the fan base, sign Joe Ryan to an extension. Good luck with that, by the way. He wants out of here too.
  4. This team is completely moribund. When they are 10 games under .500 after the first month, dump all the older players, bring up the young guys and see which of them can play at the MLB level. At least that will generate some interest in the team.
  5. Twins finish first 3 game series 6/26 w/RISP and left 17 runners on base. I wonder if they will ever get some clutch hitting in our lifetimes?
  6. Twins hitting Suarez HARD. Refreshing to see some offense.
  7. So Larnach/Martin, Buxton and Wallner vs. Gonzalez/Roden, Jenkins and Rodriguez. Depending on Buxton's health, pretty good argument Twins have more talent in St. Paul than in Mpls.... Just saying.
  8. Ober is basically throwing BP out there. No life on the fastball and giving up tons of hits. But even so he would have avoided some of the damage if Lee were a better SS.....he just isn't. We can only hope for decent, average play from him at that position and hope the bat holds up.
  9. Shoddy defense behind mediocre pitching combined with horrid hitting from multiple "starters".
  10. The decision to tender that Arb figure to Larnach remains a mystery. They claim poverty. Larnach is a decent player who is basically league average. That makes him good on this roster, but I believe they should aspire for more than average. Time will tell I guess.
  11. I am not sure they will be THAT bad, but I would not dispute Vegas at 71.5 wins, 18.5 under .500. As a matter of fact, I would bet the under if I were a betting person.
  12. I think this team could be one of the worst 4 teams in MLB this year. Not even remotely "competitive", despite new Owner's protestations. And Lewis looks horrid. Glad he doesn't do slumps....
  13. Roden wants to go north. Lewis looks simply awful. Bad error by Lee in 1st leading to 2 unearned runs. With proper fielding, Mathews pitches 5 clean innings with 4 hits surrendered. Pretty darn solid.
  14. Love him as a player, but, Man, he is hurt so often. Be well young man!
  15. Are we seriously discussing the possibility of this franchise dropping major coin on Ryan and extending him? The odds of this are less than 10% IMO. 1) He wants more money than the Twins are willing to pay; 2) He may get hurt (God forbid); 3) He wants to test FA; 4) He is likely to get traded before he hits FA. 5) He wants to play for a better team. Probably other factors, too, but that seems sufficient to make an extension a remote possibility. I will believe it when I see it. New, aggressive ownership only chance of this happening.
  16. Gonzo and ERod go 3/3 and then get sent down. Figures.
  17. The 2 young OF's have been the best hitters in ST. Twins trying to save money by keeping them down in AAA until the inevitable later call up when Outman and/or Larnach and/or Wallner falter(s).
  18. Woof on Topa. Objectively, he should be DFA and possibly given time in AAA once he clears. He might simply be toast at 35.
  19. I don't want to go through all the math again, but because of Ober's size and his release point, his fastball is effectively a couple MPH faster than the pure speed recorded. In other words, the time it takes the ball to go from his hand to the plate is a shorter interval because the ball needs to travel a shorter distance. But he certainly would be better with higher velo.
  20. Richie the Goat, I posted that I would bet the under at 72 wins, so, apparently, we agree.
  21. The chances this team wins 75 games this year is probably, realistically, about 15%. Vegas has them at 72.5, only above the Angels, Rockies, Nationals, White Sox and Cardinals. I think I would take the Under on that total, but 72-90 seems about right, 18 games below .500. This team simply isn't good, despite Tom's statements about competitiveness.
  22. Nah, just run the youngsters out there. It is sink or swim time. Just like Viola in his early career where he lost like 17 or 19 games. Have to learn how to pitch at this level, or learn that you can't pitch at this level.
  23. 2-8-1, about what I would expect from this collection of players. Lucky to have 400 win percentage this year. Feel badly for Shelton having to manage this crew....
  24. Why would this be a surprise? He isn't good and he is old. He should not make the roster, but he will anyways.
