Nick Nelson Site Manager Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 According to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com, the Minnesota Twins are finalizing an agreement with veteran reliever Sergio Romo, who came over ahead of the 2019 trade deadline. It's reportedly a one-year deal with an option. Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reports that Romo's deal is for one year and $5 million, with a club option giving him the chance to earn $10 million total. A reunion between Romo and the Twins has seemed likely all offseason, with both sides openly expressing interest. This qualifies more as another "stabilizing move" than an upgrade, but it's a welcome one nevertheless. The right-hander was a tremendous clubhouse fit and stellar performer after coming over from Miami in exchange for 1B prospect Lewin Diaz in July, posting a 3.18 ERA and 27-to-4 K/BB ratio in 22.2 IP for Minnesota. He'll turn 37 in spring training but doesn't seem especially prone to aging decline as a slider-slinging righty with an upper-80s fastball. Your thoughts on the signing? beterday Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Like this kinda guy. Passionate, no ego, fits nicely. The Twins may not sign the big names, but they do have something special in "how they go about their business" as Gardy always said. Dman, bird, MN_ExPat and 2 others 5
twins_89 Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 So at the moment, the Twins are pretty much the same team as last year except for holes at 1B and two spots in the rotation (which is actually 3 spots in the rotation for the first 40 games). So far this has been one of the most disappointing off-seasons I can remember. I had hopes of the team taking a big step forward, while the reality is looking more and more like it will be a small step backwards. howeda7, Cap'n Piranha, mikelink45 and 5 others 8

I like Romo. It's a solid signing, but there's no WOW factor. Who's next, Ervin Santana? The only free agents we've signed are a backup catcher and a couple of guys who were with us last year. Yawn city. I think we all know Ryu's not coming here, and Donaldson has all but said "no thanks" to the idea of playing for MN. But, the front office guys have done a good job in the past and we have to just trust they've got something up their sleeve. Sure hope they do, for this team's sake! Thegrin Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 it looks like a stabilizing move to me. Oops ! Someone already said that. Please disregard this post. jud6312 1
Twodogs Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I'm glad they re-signed him. Seems like he is able to get important outs, albeit he is not a 9th inning guy, more like a late 7th or early 8th inning dude. DocBauer and wabene 2

Danchat Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Nice move, though I would like another lefty added to the bullpen. Still a lot of work left to do, but getting Pineda and Romo back is good news to me. sweetmusicviola16, wabene, MN_ExPat and 4 others 7

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 So far this offseason has been the definition of insanity. The Twins have just been re-signing the same people who went 3 and out (again) in the postseason and apparently are expecting different results... They need to start making some trades jud6312, D.C Twins, SpicyGarvSauce and 4 others 7
sftwinsfan Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I'm guessing he's a pretty guy to have in the bullpen that could teach the young guys a thing or two. I still would have liked to see them add one better bullpen piece as well though.

DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Danchat beat me to it, really happy with his return and sorta felt it was a done deal all along. Slots in 6th-7th innings very well. But really need someone we can trust from the LH side in those same innings. Still like a SP conversion for the role. Dman, MN_ExPat and Danchat 3

jud6312 Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Still like a SP conversion for the role. They don't have enough starts around right to fill the rotation much less convert one to the 'pen.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Now that's creative. It's like Sergio is getting younger every year. No changes yet, except elimination of Gibson and Perez. OK. So nothing has really changed, and definitely no additions. How did I get here.... same as it ever was....... D.C Twins, Vanimal46 and jud6312 3
ScottyB Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 My guess is that our next starter will come via trade. The positive news about the reacquisitions of Odo, Pineda and Romo is that when we do acquire players, they love the clubhouse atmosphere, the coaching staff and front office and the metropolitan area (so much so that many move here when their career is over). These should be great tools for recruitment of free agents. In My La Z boy 1
