Its a three year contract for around 21 million. If this is true then the Twins low balled him. Let's see the details as they come out.

If that's true, Escobar is making a big mistake. He's worth far more. Either he really loves it there or the market is much worse for players than I thought.

Really "a big mistake"? Don't you think he and his agent are smart enough to make the correct decision for him and his family?

It isn't always, just mostly, about money.

The Twins nor any other team could offer him a contract right now... So I don't know why you say the Twins low balled him.

The Twins tried to sign him before the trade deadline. The offer must have been low or he just really didn't want to be here. If they had offered more in July, why sign now?

The following just speculation on my part, but I don't think it is unreasonable speculation that...

1 - Escobar had SOME conversation with Twins while he was still a member of the organization about potential extension options - either during the past offseason or maybe even before the trade deadline.

2 - If the discussion with the Twins was for more than the Arizona offer, he would have waited until free agency and re-explored that option.

If the rumors were true that there was talk of an extension with the Twins while he was still here, it is very surprising that he would have not accepted the Twins offer in order to reach free agency, but then turn around and accept an equal or lesser offer right on the cusp of free agency.

I'm guessing it's the latter and he didn't want to be here anymore.

He must like Arizona enough where he decided not to pursue free agency. It's not just the Twins who low balled him or missed out.

I guess we'll never know what numbers were discussed while he was with the team. Or if it even progressed to that point. It could be as simple as Falvine asking if he will commit to playing for the team in the future and he didn't accept.

With all the time available to discuss an extension AFTER the conclusion of the 2017 season and the fact that it took the Twins until the 11th hour of the trade deadline to float an extension offer - (NOTE this was not a negotiation process.), the Twins pissed him off. This was a - "before we trade you would you care to resign for $X?" So now in APRIL he can play is 83 degree temperature rather than in 33 degree temperature. Thank you legislature and Pohlad family for a non domed stadium. Where do you spend: April, May, September and October? And IF we were to ever get to the World Series again, We would be playing Minnesota outdoor baseball in November

Great guy!  It's a bummer for the Twins.  Wishing him the best of luck over there.

I think that it is a fair contract for 2018-2019.   He had a career season and he cashed in.  Good for him.

I’m sure there is no comparison in terms of how the clubs are managed, starting from ownership on down.

He probably thought he died and went to heaven.

“Wait, you’re not going to initially offer me 2 million per year.....and I don’t have to get my in-charter meal off the dollar menu, or cut it in fourths to share with the starting infield? I don’t have to take my uniform home and wash it myself? Where do I sign?”

Wow, I think 3 years $21M is quite the deal for the D-Backs, but Escobar must have really enjoyed his time there. I would have given him that deal in a heartbeat. Methinks he would have made $10M per year from someone on the FA market.

Good for him. I would have been good with him here, but it doesn't kill me he's not. He's a nice player for sure, especially at that price. But I'm not sure they can't do better in about a year or two from within the system or FA.

It does reduce the FA pool and makes it less likely they sign someone else (if there is a bidding war). that part sucks.

People are so soft these days. Whining about being outside in September? Then move to Boca Raton with all of the other 87 year olds.

Pneumonia can be really tough on the fragile.

They can't? You might want to tell MLB and the Diamondbacks that because it's been officially announced by the team.

Any other team. Escobar is currently under contract with the Diamondbacks. They can negotiate with him whenever they please. No one else is allowed to talk to him.

Famous last words of Twins fans.

Damn he was fun to watch. That is a deal. Thank the LordBeJeebus we still have Astudillo!

7m/year? That's a really nice deal for Arizona. Escobar's been a roughly on pace to be a 2 WAR player 3 out of the last 4 years and is only 30. I thought he'd get 9-10m/year from somewhere.

I suspect we will hear more stories about front offices colluding again this year. It'll be interesting to see what Harper and Machado pull in.

I expected something around 3 and 30. I’m surprised too. I am inclined to leave Sano at third for another year and go after a defensive minded shortstop for a couple years until (hopefully) Lewis shows up. Then we could slide Polanco to second and have less of a need for Escobar. But there are still a lot of moving parts.

I posted on the Twinkie town site before I saw this one.  I'm sad, but I knew this was coming.  The Twins are a mess.  Even if he enjoyed the environment here, I wouldn't want to jump back into this situation if I were a FA.  Sucks, because he was my favorite Twin for a few years now.

Flexibility, durability, reliability, and a buttload of doubles.  No use for that, I guess.

Watch 'em bring back Dozier now, just to p*ss me off.
