Also, putting him on the 40 man roster will make him ineligible to play during a strike next year. Scoring is not the Twins problem and with Jenkins injury history, he needs to be playing next year to continue to develop. Calling him up this year isn't an easy decision due to the likely strike next year.

It's probably a good idea not to put Walker Jenkins on the 40 man roster this year. It's likely that they go on strike next year and players not on the 40 man roster will be able to continue to play in the minors. They have a lot of left handed outfield options and with Jenkins injury history, he needs to be playing in 2027.

Not at least listening to offers on any player seems like a big mistake. With the potential strike, it's unlikely they will get more at the trade deadline.

Arbitration salaries are not guaranteed until the start of the season. It makes sense to tender Larnach and see what you have during spring training and what trade options you have. Offseason releases: If a player is released after the arbitration hearing but before the season starts, they are only entitled to 30 or 45 days of termination pay, depending on when the release occurs.

Minnesota sports fan for over 60 years. I do have an appreciation for the owners who have brought the only major professional sports championships (sorry Lynx fans) to Minnesota. I wish they had done more, but feel players have also can be held to standards. Much like I bet Yankee and Dodgers fan feel. So I accept the comparison as a compliment.

Thank You for clarifying when fans are allowed to be disappointed.. Ownership to blame if not winning World Series, very disappointing.. 2 WAR players, never disappointing. Got it.

When you have a 90% chance for the playoffs in the middle of August and don't make the playoffs, that's due to the player/coaching, not ownership. Lowering expectations for the players and always blaming ownership is lazy. Calling out under preforming players is not having unrealistic expectations. Funny comparison in next level player to Kepler is a HOF player.

Twins won 82 games last years, right around national expectation .Payroll highest in division. Are fans who are disappointed just having unfair expectations on the team and ownership? Having lower expectations for individual players but high expectations for ownership and the team doesn't work.

Revenue drives his payroll and what he can do. He may not be in charge of it, but he better be aware of it and plan accordingly. You can't be surprised. If you are, you are not doing your job as a President of a organization.

If this is true, we have found the problem. If Derek Falvey has no idea of the revenue, which drives his payroll, then he shouldn't be in his position.

https://www.forbes.com/teams/minnesota-twins/ According to Forbes, for the 2023 season, they spent 54,6% of revenue on players expense. I think that is around what they said their budget was. The revenue jumped up in 2023, from around $260m to $342m, it will be interesting to see if it went back down to the $260m which is what they were averaging in prior to 2023. The front office should be aware of the revenue coming in and if salary is based on the revenue, the payroll reduction shouldn't have been a surprise.

At the time of the extension, ownership probably felt it had no choice but to give the extension. But was is "worth it", based on performance during the contact, it wasn't the right baseball decision. It didn't really help ownership's either. They still were the cheap Pohlads because they wouldn't just think of contract as sunk cost and spend more money. Look at the Cardinals and Albert Pujois. Pujois lead them the World Series title and they let him walk. I don't think anyone in St Louis is questioning if that was the right decision because of the fall off in his performance during the contract.

At this point, you just have to hope for a Paul Molitor run. Injury prone in his 20's and productive in his 30's. Unfortunately, like Molitor, that means he need to be primarily a DH.

All these trades for pitching the last couple years, make me wonder when the "pitching pipeline" is going to kick in.

Pitching in the AL East is a little bit harder than the AL Central.?

It's not ideal when your most irreplaceable player is also your least dependable player.

Owners did propose a $100 salary floor with a lower tax limit to increase revenue sharing, but it was rejected by the players.

You don't have to care what the players want, but they are still going to negotiate what they feel is best for them. The owners have already offered up an age limit to start FA without service time, so if it's going to be accepted, it's going to be lower than 29.5. If you think either side is going to negotiate what best for the fans and not for themselves, you have learned nothing from past agreements.

I'm not sure an "or" policy would work because you could still game the service time like the Twins did with Buxton and delay his FA. I think gaming the system is what players want to avoid. But you could do an "and" policy. 27 and 3-4 years service. Also, with this in the discussion, I don't see how Buxton signs until after the CBA is agreed. He might get FA if they change the rules.

Did we still win the Happ trade?

I think the takeaway is not to do what the Twins did in 2017. The were a playoff contender and the FO sold at the deadline. If they had strengthen the roster, maybe one of the new players gets hot and wins a series for you.

At the time, the David Ortiz decision was correct. He cleared waivers and ended up doing okay.
  23. KGB
If Falvine is wrong on either side, he is gone. Plus MLB will have a new contract with the players which will make the decision even more difficult.
  24. KGB
Leaving Dobnak in the rotation wouldn't been a decision based just in spring training. He earned it based on the prior two years and contract extension. Shoemaker should have been the one who had work out of the bullpen to start.

Robbie Grossman went from a horrible fielder to a Gold Glove finalists in one year after leaving Minnesota. Eddie has all the tools to be a good fielder, I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn it around.
