No real details or specifics yet, but looks like Kyle Gibson has found a new home...

Personally, I'm very happy for him. Always enjoyed chatting with him... first did a podcast with him, shortly after the draft... had him on a podcast about 90 minutes before he actually signed with the Twins at the deadline in 2009... always great talking to him in the clubhouse and in Ft. Myers..

Just not many better people than Kyle Gibson...

Lots all the weight and strength last year with the e. coli that turned into ulceritive colitis. If healthy, I'm really hoping he can get back to his 2018 level because that's a really good pitcher!

I think Kyle could have a really good year in 2020 but I also think it was time for a change for both Kyle and the Twins.  Glad he landed on his feet. The Rangers should be an improved team next year.

I think most of us on TD, while wishing KG the best, are happy to see him go.  He does not belong on a playoff contending team, especially one with 101 wins the previous season.

But the challenge still remains for this FO : are they going to make preemptive strikes in the FA market or wait to grab low hanging fruit.  My fear, based on their unwillingness to bolster their bullpen with such top talent as Smith and now Pomerantz, already swept up early in FA, is "same old Twins".  Yes, it's early and no top starters are gone, but arguably two of the best relievers are.  Who is left now to bolster the back end of the rotation?  Blaine Hardy??

I know I sound impatient but years of Ryan and 3 years of timidity by Falvine has conditioned me to expect little from a Twins FO who considers a successful offseason one in which they kicked a lot of tires but wound up with spares.

Maybe, then, the issue isn't the GMs but rather ownership? Ryan, Levine, Falvey. Say what you want but these are smart guys. They know who the best players are. They are hamstrung by a low payroll and have to figure out where every nickel goes.

Maybe they figured giving up 30m for a pitcher who has amassed two straight 2.5 WAR seasons for his age 32-34 seasons would interfere with their other options.

if he puts up that WAR, he's a bargain at ten million....

KG is very obstinate. He has wasted above average MLB talent. Nibble - nibble - nibble. Will continue doing so in Texas. Tigers don’t change their stripes.

Proof of this? Otherwise sour grapes... again.

I think I slightly agree. So many times you see pitchers get ahead and never seem to think about finishing them off. So yes to the nibble.

If he's getting 3/30, then the idea that the market will be depressed this year is out the door...

Lance Lynn got 3/30 from the Rangers last year, and he was worse than Gibson was this year...

Great deal for Gibby. I fully expect him to throw 185 innings with an era in the low 3's. I didn't think he would get 3/30. If he gets 3/30, there's no way in heck we're signing anyone other than someone like Homer Bailey.

It was a year more than predicted for Gibby, but AAV is similar.  You are going to have to spend the money if you want a Cole/Stras/MadBum/Wheeler period, but I really don't this signing moves their needle much.

I'm more surprised about the years than the money. With his illness knocking him out of spring training then again making him ineffective late in the year, I thought he'd get one of the 1 year + a team option deals we see given to guys who have uncertain injury concerns.

Gibson is worth 3/30 to be a 4th starter. I would have been happy for the Twins to sign him for that. I was against going higher than a 3/45 deal.

I agree Gibby can make this deal a good one. Always liked Mr Gibson and rooted for him. Now I'm excited to watch a couple of new pitchers attack the zone.

Pomerantz at $34M/4 years seems like a long commitment for a guy who goes year to year with injury

It's a long winter...still time for some moves

If Gibson is able to manage his health issues with more information/experience concerning how his body works...get back to a point of sustainable strength/endurance...he'll be well worth this deal. That's the Ranger's bet. In any case, I'm happy for Gibby. Frequently drove me nuts, but had long stretches of 'goodness', seemed to work hard, and seemed consistently positive, not an excuse-maker and a good teammate (as far as can be observed by us outsiders). Good luck to him!

Good for Kyle.

I seem to remember back a couple of years when Twins fans were clamoring for the team not to even offer him arbitration.

It is still somewhat amazing that the Twins did win last season, with Kyle imploding, Pineda getting suspended, and throwing together a patchwork of arms around Odorizzi and his 5-inning spectaculars.

The Twins need two pitchers, better than anything they put on the field last season. Is that possble? Plus, a real closer. Then the arms are set!
