Is Reusse still relevant?

He pops up on Rand's Daily Delivery podcast all the time and all he has to say are negative old guy things.  It doesn't even sound like he likes the sport of baseball anymore.  I used to like listening to him but his negativity stinks.  Are we actually that angry of a fan base that he's just pandering to the lowest common denominator?

He's still fun on occasion, but he's an old curmudgeon.  You just have to know what you're getting when you listen to a podcast with him.

He did compare Arraez to Rod Carew on Mackey & Judd today.  (He said he's not as good, but he's close).

Ruesse is the best baseball writer the Twin Cities have ever seen.

I hope he lives and works to be Sid's age.

Reusse sometimes tries too hard to stir up interest via hawt taeks, no different than most journalists really, but he is solid.  I listened to a few minutes of today's edition of the podcast where he half-heartedly had to defend his facetious 0-9 prediction for the past string of games, and I wasn't harmed by the experience.  He's seen a ton of good players in his time, so if he says that Nick Gordon is atrocious at SS, it merely reflects experience, not negativity per se.  Or, at least, I give him a pass, because I like validation of my own opinion of Gordon's stylings at short.

Totally agree. He knows more about baseball than 99% of the fan base and probably a decent percentage of MLB professionals. I don't think he's totally negative but more of a realist and skeptic until proven otherwise.

I must be getting old too.

I've been an old curmudgeon for a long time, it comes with age and experience.

He is right.  Gordon is not SS material

I didn't say being an old curmudgeon is a bad thing...

I have a friend who gets annoyed with him sometimes. I just don't take him that seriously.  I imagine him chortling to himself with half the stuff he writes--maybe more.

He's part info, part entertainment, and solidly curmudgeon. I love when he writes of Twins' past--especially the 60s.

He is really a knowledgeable ball guy. You just have to realize when he is being serious and when he is agitating. It seems this is something more and more people struggle with.

I guess I can get on board if he's just trolling but it comes off so so negative that it's hard to listen to.  I've been a twins fan for 30 years, I know they haven't had much success so I'd rather listen to people with some optimism.  It's more fun even if the twins are bad.  I can be realistic but still happy.

I think Reusse is one of those ... 'love him or hate him' kind of writers. I know there are many people here who fit into both those categories! So ... I think that makes him still 'relevant' even if he might not be your cup o' tea :)

Doesn't matter if it's Mondee , Tuesdee, or any other dee, Reusse is tare-bull.

Personally I don't think he's got a grip on today's game, his only excuse, is he's a columnist not a beat writer and can't be expected to be super knowledgeable about all the local teams and trends. LEN 111 now has this excuse as well.

He shared a daily radio show up here with another curmudgeon, until ESPN destroyed KSTP radio station, and was interesting to listen to whether you agreed with him or not.

He has forgotten more about sport than all but a few here know or will ever know , so I give him the respect he deserves.

Not a better baseball mind in the Twin Cities market. No question in my mind about that. He likes the old school ball, no doubt, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't agree with everything he says. Some of his rants, I disagree. But ,he's a great columnist, and he's known this organization since the earliest days.

He's done a lot for writers in market. Yeah, he can come across as curmudgeonly, but he's always great to chat with. Not much better than seeing his name pop up on my phone because I know I'm going to have an enjoyable conversation, he's going to ask me some questions, and then I'll probably learn some stuff I didn't know before.

He kinda has lost my respect with his HOF voting. He's clearly old-school, but even the old-school guys who are anti-PED don't vote for Jeff Kent and Omar Vizquel and not Billy Wagner or Andruw Jones. He sometimes votes for only 5-6 guys. Okay, you're a small hall guy, that's fine, but then don't vote for Torii Hunter and not Andruw Jones.

"Relevant - closely connected or appropriate"
While Reusse may not be as closely connected now as he once was, he is still more connected than almost all of us here.

And 'appropriate' is way too subjective to try to determine a baseline.

Oh, and I'm pretty old, too. But I hope I'm still relevant.

I am a Reusse hater. I hated him back in his Pioneer Press days and he hasn't changed a bit. He mostly writes negatively and takes cheap shots at easy targets.  That is considered " lazy" journalism, and in his case it certainly fits.

Patrick knows and appreciates baseball. I appreciate his knowledge and like his stories of Minnesota town-team baseball including the Southern Minny League.

Yes, he is often critical, but I don’t think that makes him totally negative. I think he likes to take down those who get too full of themselves and I don’t think that’s a bad thing either.

Big fan of him.  A lot of young media today are to scared yo ask tough questions.  Patrick knows his stuff better than most reporters.  I love listening to him on Mackey and Judd.

Much better than kiss their arse  that currently rules journalism.

He appears on the Garage Logic Podcast regularly and I find him and that show well worth a listen. That podcast is a "child" of the Kstp sports talk.
