  1. With the exception of last night, it seems this team just Can't Buy a Thrill... Hope it doesn't turn into Everything Must Go later on this summer.
  2. Cruz looks tired. And slow. And somewhat frustrated.
  3. Maybe this guy is looking for a job. Can't hurt...
  4. All these years later, and Phil Cuzzi still can't get the "Fair" / "Foul" call right...
  5. Thank you. Nice recap. Sincerely. But I also feel like all of the oxygen has been sucked out of the room.
  6. I can see why they would want to make these changes for a drastically shortened season. This year should be the outlier, and no new rule changes kept for later years. Just get on the field and play. You could use a whiffle ball for all I care. (kidding.... sorta...) I had no idea that I would miss baseball this much.
  7. "Fathers Playing Catch with Sons" by Donald Hall.
  8. .....I'd motion to my back and go to the clubhouse for a massage. TD: That...sounds like a veteran. Thanks for the laugh.
  9. How about suspend their franchise for a year? No schedule, no games. Nothing. That would leave a lasting mark in the record books. Let the Players Union work out what happens as far as the current players go.
  10. I thought the timeline was early to mid May? Why the rush?
  11. Good luck, Tyler. Hope it all works out. Kid from Des Moines? Gotta love it.
  12. 4 years in, 400 AB +/- .232 avg. Less than replacement WAR. Seems more of an AAAA player, if that. Never really did anything to set himself apart with the chances given. We've seen this before. Need to have the bar a little higher.
  13. Hmmmm... Advertisement at the bottom of the page is from Home Advisor, linking to Local Pool Contractors... Coincidence? I think not. More like an omen.
  14. It is sad. He was a great ball player. Clearly defined rules. Consequences. hard as it is to say.... No.
  15. A few years back, I had the opportunity to get a tour of the "players' Dormitory" on the back lot at the Ft Meyers complex. There is a rather large auditorium where they have team meetings, and off of that a large cafeteria / eating area and then a gathering room that had quite a bit of space for TVs and games and lounging. And the players rooms were in the several stories above that. The impressive part of that whole tour to me, was the cafeteria, where they have menus that are designed for players for certain dietary needs (there were several, maybe 3 or 4). They were color coded, so all a player had to do was to pick a food of the assigned color. I though that was a simple plan to get a decent diet in front of players from all over the world, so maybe they don't spend their money on junk food. I never knew if the players are charged for that service, but at least the Twins are addressing some of this at this complex. That might make for an interesting article...
  16. Funny thing. I had to go back to make sure I read the same article. Carew's comments “He looks good; even better, Miguel told me that he found peace this winter,’’ Carew said. “I know the feeling. That happened with me.’’ was what I took away from the article. It is optimistic.
  17. This. The bar is set too low. And I have no idea how the new regime is supposed to change it. I do know that I am tired of watching poorly executed, uninspired baseball in relation to the contending markets that are in the fight every year. And I don't mean Cleveland.
  18. I just keep coming to the same conclusion... The bar is set too low. 80 wins is simply not enough, when everything hinges on "ifs".
  19. Hard to get excited, one way or the other, about hiring a guy with zero managerial experience. Hope it works out.
  20. Mad about an SI article? No. Disappointed in the direction they took? Maybe. Decent does not have to be fluff. I'm not 100% certain that anyone outside of "Twins Territory" has any idea what Mauer has done in his career, and this would be a good time to report that. What I'm left with is the same old sour taste of this 8 year old discussion Seems to me that the Press jumps on every chance to shout about the negatives under the guise of presenting both sides of the story. Sells more copy, I guess.
  21. SI has a chance to write a decent article on Mauer, and the possibility of this being his last year. Instead, they turned it into the same old tired tripe that has been hashed around here since the ink dried on his contract. Gleeman was right on.. some folks just enjoy being "mad".
  22. How many ABs does it take before one realizes "he is what he is"? 600? 900? 1000? 1075? Why is it he gets a pass at the expense of some others who play in the system? They might need MLB at bats to see if they would stick, too. He has talent. True. But as for now, it looks "un-realized."
