  1. Do a comparison of Dobnak to someone like, maybe Cole De Vries. perspective.
  2. I think the “guess hitting” theory is what I see also. When Buxton came back after a stint on the IL, or came back from AAA a few years back, he proclaimed that he was just going to do things his own way, and stop listening to all of the advice he was getting from too many sources. He went on an absolute rampage, until he got hurt again. While this may be a different scenario, I think it is evident that there are far too many times that the “guess” is wrong, and there is a weak swing or no swing at all. And because it isn’t just one guy, there has to be something that is being communicated to everyone somehow.
  3. Love reading articles like these. Thank you.
  4. “From the laptop speakers came what at first sounded like a low moan. It soon escalated into a mournful, broken howl. The sound, not quite human, not quite animal…” If you play it back in reverse at a very slow speed, it sounds remarkably like an entire stadium chanting “ooooooo berrrrr… ooooooo berrrr”
  5. Not a chance that he leaves NY. The fans would go ballistic.
  6. To me, this is precisely what I have seen too many times this year. If it is truly an organizational strategy, then the organization needs to be replaced. Even large corporations that spend big money on business analytics make flawed decisions. Some of them even fail miserably.
  7. To me, something is out of whack with this premise. Searching for players on the current roster to comprise a "core 4" and then comparing to the Evil Empire core players, and even to the '87 and '91 Twins seems like an oxymoron or something. Shouldn't a core group have some kind of history together longer than 4-1/2 months of a couple of seasons to qualify? Maybe some kind of mutual accomplishments consisting of more than leading the AL Central for a few months? These guys haven't done anything yet. Sorry, but my thoughts lead more to the core players of The Big Red Machine, or half the roster of the Orioles in the late 60's early 70's. That kind of magnitude.
  8. No. Dear God, please.... no. Too much history of not being able to get the 3rd strike (or the 3rd out) after having done reasonably well over the previous two innings. We have enough of of those guys in the rotation right now. And 1 good game followed by a blowout, a clunker and/or no-decision. Nope. Not interested. Give the kids a chance. Lots more fun that way.
  9. He really IS a lawn gnome..... Now it all makes sense.
  10. The "positions of strength" are going to be needed to snap the post season losing streak. Swapping out major league talent for a zero net gain, is not adding to the value of the team. Swapping out prospects is what I think should be used. And Sano can be DFA'ed just for his roster spot. There is enough value there just for that.
  11. Damn... Now I'm gonna have that song in my head for the rest of the weekend....
  12. I agree with this. No ticket discounts are applied for not seeing the guys you want to see. Used to "time" the games so we could make sure to see the starting pitcher that was our favorite, or Tony O, Carew and Killebrew on the field all at the same time. It's different if a guy gets hurt and can't play. Which makes me wonder, too, if there are/were discounted tickets for double headers that are only 7 innings long.
  13. At least I learned something here. Betteridge's law of headlines... Never knew that. Thanks.
  14. Nice read on a cold January day. Thank you.
  15. This is what "let the kids play" looks like. No worries.
  16. With the exception of last night, it seems this team just Can't Buy a Thrill... Hope it doesn't turn into Everything Must Go later on this summer.
  17. Cruz looks tired. And slow. And somewhat frustrated.
  18. Maybe this guy is looking for a job. Can't hurt...
  19. All these years later, and Phil Cuzzi still can't get the "Fair" / "Foul" call right...
