  1. At the age of around 30 having played fastpitch softball since high school, I took a rise ball in the face one night while guarding the dish with two outs, runners on, and a 3-2 count. I was never the same after that, washed up, and heading for the bench after anything thrown inside or even remotely at my head. 'course, I'd never been better than a .250 hitter in anybody's league before that and had been playing ball since fifth grade.
  2. I've been watching baseball since the '40s and I've never seen a better play.
  3. I'm all for Sonny, tune in just to watch him pitch.
  4. The Twins have done fine without him, Taylor and Castro in particular. It is painful to watch Buxton bat.
  5. Very disappointing. Also very typical. Regardless of whatever "upside" may fleetingly occur, this team cannot be taken seriously
  6. The comparison with Mickey Mantle does Buxton no favors.
  7. Money no object, but this o Money no object, but this one's got it.
  8. I regretted the trade when it was made and continue to regret it now. It's hard to root for the Twins.
  9. Good on ya, Luis. It's a pleasure watching you play.
  10. I"ve been following this team for 20 years, and essentially it's the same old story. I'm tired of it.
  11. I'm for Urshela, have said so before. Impressed with the way Bunny hangs in there, too.
  12. On the whole of it, I wouldn't mind having Urshela on my ball club.
  13. I believe I have expressed the same sentiments recently. Were I to go back over the years, I may well have said the same things before. It is these Twins' legacy.
  14. I admire Archer for hanging in there, and I like the way he goes about his business.
  15. Is this question rhetorical or merely a joke? When in their history have the Twins had too much starting pitching? When was it last when they had four starters who were consistent and capable, let along a couple more who in a pinch they could pop in to fill a hole?
  16. Shocked and amazed Iyam. Never in 20 years of following this club have I seen what, on paper, looks like a brilliant trade. If this pans out, all else being equal, the Twins now actually have a decent, daresay legitimate chance to beat somebody.
  17. The bullpen as the fatal flaw. Starting with the Rogers trade.
  18. Nobody appreciates a decent catcher until they don't have one. There are few you'll find who can play good defense as well as hit. I think Jadi Molina.
  19. In his own contribution during one of those stretches when the Twins are going through a prolonged pitching flux, Archer has been about as important to the staff as Devin Smeltzer.
  20. LOL.....nice and accurate comparison of Pagan to our ol buddy Kyle "meow mix" Gibson. Gibson was the epitome of "nibbling"--drove me crazy. Wish him well, but very glad he's gone!! That's funny, all the years watching him pitch, I'm thinking, Jeez, Gibby, just throw a strike.
  21. In the 22 years I have followed the Twins, the pitching staff, more often than not, is an annual mystery.
  22. Having followed this team for 20 years, this would seem to be the usual state, with but a few brief exceptions.
  23. I think the simple fact the Twins now are in this position tells me all I'll ever need to know about the Twins, and I've been following them for 20 years. In essence, yes, they've only had two pitchers during the entire time who the informed fan might regard as aces--two!--and now they're back to mining prospects again. Explains a lot, doesn't it?
  24. I recommend the Sports Illustrated profile on Joe Ryan. This fella is a different breed of cat.
