I'm hoping for Ozzie Guillen, especially with Gardie in the same division.   Falvine would never do anything that fun.   I just hope the new manager encourages lefty lead-off batters to bunt away from the shift to get on base.

Of the internal candidates/ex-Twins the only ones I see realistically are Watkins, Glynn, Shelton and Pickler. Shelton and Pickler are on this list only because they were brought in by Falvine.

Love, love, love Torii Hunter and Jim Thome, but I would prefer someone who has actually been a manager at some level before handing them the reins to a major league club.

If the selection is internal I'm kind of leaning toward Tommy Watkins. Don't know if he speaks Spanish, but I've never read anything but good stuff about the guy.

I would love to see Ron Washington get another shot. He was just great here in Texas taking the Rangers to two World Series along with Thad Levine. But his departure from Texas was awkward and Levine knows those details as well as anyone.

I still like Tom Prince. He’s paid his dues in the Pittsburgh system. I don’t know how long Hurdle plans to manage (or how long the Pirates plan to let him). But Hurdle is one year younger than Molitor FWIW.

I read this somewhere not sure where but the Twins are one of four teams that have never had a non-white manager. Maybe it's about time?

I'm not really sure who would/wouldn't be good for the Twins. But I don't want another 'great/good player' without managerial experience. And not just that, but I want someone that has a good track record for progressive thought and methods but who can also bring a strong sense of good ol' fundamental baseball.

 

I don't know enough about anyone out there who would be that, but that's what I want.

Agreed, I just want somebody from outside the organization who has coaching experience st some level. I don’t want a former player who hasn’t coached ever before. If you want a guy like that, hire him as the bench coach.

I'd prefer managerial experience but it's not a deal breaker for me if they find a guy who's innovative and energizing. I'd really prefer no former Twins players though. Not that I don't think there might be some good ones, but because I don't want the anchor of nostalgia around their neck. I'd prefer they feel that they have a completely clean slate and have neither built up equity nor the pressures to live up to rose-colored memories of their playing days.

I don't remember what knocks there might be on him, or why the Yankees parted company with him, but if you want a retread it would seem like you could do worse. I don't think he'd be totally at odds with an analytically minded FO, but maybe that's the problem.

I had read (or thought I read that, at the time) that they didn't feel he was the manager for the younger players, that he had a preference for older veterans and wasn't good at continuing to develop the younger players.

 

If that's the case, I'd want consideration for him to be considered very carefully.

I'd also love to see Ron Washington get a shot. I've always liked his style. But I'm guessing that he's considered too old and too "old school" by the front office for any serious consideration. T

Stubby Clapp?  Has managed the Memphis Redbirds the past 2 years, won the PCL both years.  Named Minor League Manager of the Year last year (and may be again this year when the award comes out).  
Prior to Memphis, he worked in the Toronto system for years, and there is some smoke he might be hired there.

I'm pretty sure he's hip to the new analytics, and the Twins look to have a young roster.  He's more likely to end up in Toronto, but he's a possibility if you're looking for someone outside the Twins org.
