Message added by Squirrel,

This thread is NOT a discussion thread. This thread is for posting actual transactions only so we have a more streamlined place for posters to look for the 'ups' and 'downs' of the active roster as they happen. If you think any move warrants extra discussion, please start a separate discussion thread. Or if you want to speculate on any upcoming moves, please start a thread, or go to one that is currently active in the forum. Let’s keep this thread streamlined to make it easier to see/find the moves. Thanks! 🙂

Wow, Garlick already and it isn't even May 1. The even sadder thing is he will probably stay on the roster if he hits at all over Wallner and/or Julien until everyone else is ready to come back. Our depth is already being tested. Thank goodness that Solano can play a little.

If he hits, I have no problem with him staying. And he’s probably a bit of an upgrade defensively than those two, but that I will concede if @chpettit19 says otherwise 🙂

Well he's not worse than the other two, so there's that! Him staying probably depends on the role available. They won't want Wallner and Julien sitting on the bench while they wouldn't care about it with Garlick. Julien and Wallner will be sent back to AAA to play everyday so they can be better than me in the field.

Why the heck isn't Matt Canterino on the 60 day IL yet? Has this been covered elsewhere? The Twins only have one healthy position player on the 40-man that's not already up at the majors. Shouldn't Canterino be moved ASAP so there's more room for an emergency bat?

He is on the 60-day list, but the minor league side. If they put him on the major league one, he would get service time. He was injured before spring training when he was still in the minors.

I know this won't go over well, but if everyone was healthy, I'd honestly prefer Garlick to Kepler. Offensively they're a push, maybe Garlick's a bit better, but Garlick's is a righty.

I mean, option C is preferable if option C emerges.

I sort of agree with you. Gallo really replaces Kepler and is an upgrade on defense - Gold Glove winner - and an upgrade on offense if he's the Gallo from 2017-2021, not the 2022 Gallo. Both are essentially on 1 year deals since we aren't picking up a $10m option for Kepler next year.  A strong RH OF is a real need.

I say "sort of" because I don't think Garlick is that strong RH OF. He's ok at best. He's fine for now but I think he loses his spot when the injured players are ready to come back.  Maybe he stays if we trade Kepler but there doesn't seem to be much of a market for Max. Best guess is absent season ending type injuries, Kepler returns and replaces Wallner, Gallo returns and replaces Julien  or Garlick depending on which one hits, Polanco replaces the other of those last 2, and Farmer replaces Castro when he's ready to come back. Who does Lewis and Kirilloff replace? Probably an injured or traded player.

Trade Kepler??  Ive seen that before on this board.  If they want to prove they don't care about winning, yeah trade Kepler.  Long Twins tradition: trade away your best players.

Nothing to worry about.

It won't happen.

Kepler won't be traded.

The other teams don't believe he is one of our best players.

Yeah, I don't see any trade happening at this point. Unless Kepler comes back healthy and starts putting up better offensive numbers on a regular basis, there will be almost zero demand for his services. The clock is ticking.

I know it wasn't a popular move keeping Sands, but I really like how they're using the last spot in the pitching staff. Sands to Varland to Headrick, this flexibility is exactly what they needed this year, and it's a great way to give these guys the experience and audition they need for next year.

Polanco activated. Julien sent down.

Edit: I think I was fooled by a fake Twitter account. Don’t see it officially reported by the usual team of Do, Gleeman, Betsy, and Dan Hayes.

Ah ... was just going to ask where you saw this because I wasn't finding it in the 'usual' places ...

Surprised about SWR. Not shocked that one of Alcala, Moran or Pagan was sent down or DFA.

Of those three I'm surprised it's Alcala

I think that it is interesting that Headrick has survived!

Polanco has not exactly been killing it on his "rehab" stops......hopefully a week from now that will be totally irrelevant.

Woods-Richardson was optioned.

I'm still puzzled why Woods-Richardson was even called up to begin with. Did we really have that much of a need for a guy to come in and throw 90-plus pitches as a long reliever?

Brock Stewart gets added to the 40 man and called up to the Twins.

Here is an excerpt from MLBTradeRumors:

The 2023 season has been a much different story thus far. He’s blitzed out of the gate with a 2.08 ERA and gaudy 48.6% strikeout rate in 8 2/3 innings, walking just 5.7% of his opponents. Stewart’s raw 17-to-2 K/BB ratio is intriguing, even in a small sample at the Triple-A level, particularly since he’s added considerable velocity in recent years. Stewart averaged 92.8 mph on his four-seamer during his 2016-19 run with Los Angeles and Toronto but has since moved to short relief stints and ramped that velocity into the upper 90s. In addition to that massive strikeout rate, he’s also sporting an enormous 22.1% swinging-strike rate in St. Paul.
