What are you excited to see for the remainder of the season?

Now that the calendar has flipped over to August, the trade deadline has passed and the Twins are in last place in the division, is there anything that excites you about what the rest of the season holds?  Any particular prospects that you're particularly interested in seeing called up?  Any minor leaguers that aren't prospects that you'd like to see get a shot?

For me, it's about the pitching.  Not even anyone in particular, but I'd like to see some of the pitching that could help the club next year be brought up and see what they can do.  We've already seen a few of them in Jax and Ober, but now is the time to get a more of them up and get their feet wet in the bigs.  I think that taste can be beneficial in the long run.

On a more random note, I actually wouldn't mind seeing Astudillo play all 9 positions in a game.

I want to see the future - I am not interested in Maeda and Pineda starting - we know them and their wins do not matter this year.  Bring up young arms - lots of them.  Get Ryan after the Gold Medal is in his hand to pitch his next game in MN.

The same in the BP - no more Colome, no more older arms that will not be around.  Bring up the AAA relief pitchers.

No more Cave, Refsnyder (nice story), Donaldson, Simmons - all young players - Miranda and Kerrigan  and anyone else who looks like a live, young hitter with promise.

I was disappointed with sending Gordon back down.  Let him work through the challenges.

I want Burrows off the roster, and someone up from AAA that is part of the future. I really don't understand the plan right now. It should be about preparing for next year. Especially the pitching.

I want to see if Rob, the OF, can be the fourth OF next year.

I want to see at least one more starter up and pitching, preferably Strotman or Ryan or both.

I want Kepler to rebound.....

I'm interested to see if Rooker can be part of the future.

Um ... watching baseball while drinking scotch ... oh wait, no ... that's you ...

For me, good or bad, it's always been about the game, and it's unexpected moments. While I may not see that every game, I see it often enough to keep me coming back. Also ... the minor leagues and what's happening there. With the infusion of new players, I'm anxious to see what they do. While I would like to see a few more call ups to try out a few people and see what they have at the majors, it's unrealistic to think that we are all of a sudden going to start fielding a team of prospects, so ... it's more reason to pay attention to the minor leagues

I'm interested in Rooker and Larnach on the offensive side, pretty much every pitcher under 30 on the pitching side. I don't have a lot of hope for any of those pitchers but we can't evaluate their MLB pitching ability until they face MLB pitchers.

I'm also interested to see how Maeda finishes the season. I don't know if he's a part of the Twins next winning team but either way, a good performance going forward helps the team in either wins or potential trade value.

Good point on Refsnyder.  I want to believe this offensive streak is real, but it would be nice to see him play out the season.

Maeda is one I'm watching too.  If for no other reason to see if he's more like last season's version or early 2021 version.

Excited to see Ober, Jax and Barnes continue to get some innings and hoping to see Winder, Balazovic, Moran, Cano, Hamilton get a little run before the season is over. Also really hoping to see Miranda up before the end of the year. It's time to evaluate anyone who is on or will need to be on the 40 man roster.

I have to echo the various sentiments here that I want to see as many young arms as I can. It's going to be a tightrope that is tough to walk. There is the 40 man to be considered as well as the 26 man. You can't just cut 5 or 6 guys and promote another 5 or 6 guys because there might be a guy or two you think might help next year. And, unfortunately, there is the big restriction in September where you can only bring up 2 extra players.

But as much as possible, I really want to see some young arms get their feet wet and show their stuff/potential for the first time.

I want to see Ober continue to take the bump and be nurtured.

I want to see Refsnyder continue to play. He was a solid prospect who didn't turn out. And now he's re-invented himself. He needs time to prove himself. I think there's a shot he could be a perfect RH 4th OF in 2022 who can do a little bit of everything

Miranda HAS to see some time, at least in September, doesn't he?

I'm really curious to see what Rooker does the rest of the season.

On the milb side of things, promotions can be just as important. I absolutely understand monitoring IP. I'm sure the Twins aren't the only team who has seen injuries and tweaks and signed guys just to flesh out rosters. But every promotion to a new level offers development for pitchers, as well as position players, to grow and get ready for 2022. Keep playing and promoting the kids in the system. Keep playing Gordon every day in St Paul to see if he can be a viable and versatile bench option in 2022.

I am looking forward to seeing the young starters and relievers up here.  My fear is that with both St. Paul and Wichita being new farm clubs that will probably make the playoffs, the Twins will not make moves until their seasons are over, and therefore will not know anything for next year until spring training, in effect writing off 2022.

Do you really believe Miranda will get a September call up?

Not sure.  I think it would be a good idea to give him a reward and a taste of baseball at the ML level.  Also not a bad idea to keep Donaldson healthy.  The thing that could get in the way is that we have so many pitching prospects they might prioritize in terms of getting a look.

Weirdly enough, I'm most interested in Baldelli. He had a team of mostly-established MLB veterans in 2019 and 2020. Now he's  got a different sort of team to work with, with no Cruz as it's anchor. How can he help these younger players develop a sense of resilience as a team? How can he help them achieve and be competitive? I have to say, the last week has given me a little more hope. The last two games against the Astros were downright scrappy.

I'd be excited to see Miranda playing 3B and Gordon or Palacios playing SS at the MLB level. I'd also like to see Ryan starting at the MLB level with Gore, Cano and Moran pitching out of the bullpen.

Getting Buxton back on the field soon and having him play the rest of the season.

In the minors, I'd like to see Balazovic and Woods-Richardson get back on track and positive numbers for Martin at shortstop.

Maybe the Twins can get in there and ruin the playoff chances of a contending team. They have a four game series with Toronto on September 23-26 at Target Field, which seems their best shot at such an accomplishment. I'd like to see Arraez play everyday to see how high he can take that batting average. Seeing Arraez stay healthy for a sustained period of time would sure be nice.

For the rest of the season let’s test out the young guys! Get burrows and coulombs out. Bring in Ryan and winder. Once the roster expands in September bring up Martin, Balazovic, sands, vallimont, heck why not even woods-Richardson for a few September innings. Give them a taste. We’re gonna need these guys next year so we need to stop worrying about selling tickets this year and get these young guys reps!!!

You may not have been paying close attention to the rule changes. The active roster only expands to 28 (two more players) in September.

Oh dang! Ok. I thought I might have seen that but thought it was only last year. Well, I guess they’ll have to DFA a few then. Cut the fat out to get some young guys up to get ab’s and innings

The struggles with the 40 man roster are real. The Twins will want to be quite sure of their decisions on those players currently on their team before releasing them and the free agents they signed (Simmons and Colome) will finish the year. Thus, there will not be an opportunity for every player that we may want to see if they are not on the 40 man roster.

The players I want to see playing are: Sano, Rooker, Polanco, Arraez, Donaldson, Larnach, Kepler, Refsnyder, and hopefully Buxton. I do want to see Ober, Jax, Ryan, and a few new faces pitching. Lastly, the comment made earlier about Rocco Baldelli and his adjustments is also interesting.

I’m very interested in seeing the younger hitters develop and seeing as many of the younger pitchers get a shot as is possible in the confines of our 40 man roster issues. Specifically, I hope to get the chance to watch 3 things and am watching another:

(1) I want to see Joe Ryan get at least 5-6 MLB starts. He can take the place of Barnes who isn’t ready.

(2) I want to see Ian Hamilton and Moran each get 10-15 MLB relief appearances. They can takes the spots of Beau Burrows and Danny Coulumbe. Burrows isn’t close to MLB ready; Coulombe had a nice half season and is now returning to the older mediocrity he’s always been.

(3) Give Gant 3-4 starts. See if he can do it. If not, we still have an effective reliever.

(4) I’m watching Kepler and Sano. Are they starters going forward or journeymen guys? Recent results are sort of encouraging but not good enough. Key decisions on each coming soon.

Fun times.

I’m hoping Ryan is up and starting for the rest of the season. Reward Miranda for his season and call him up. DFA some guys and mostly call up pitching since the rosters don’t expand very much.

It would be more fun to do this August 19-22 in the Bronx, but I get that it will seem more weighted at the end of September.

This is not T Ball where the object is to keep the parents happy by seeing that every kid plays. I want to see Baldelli show some leadership and actually pick a starting lineup and stick with it for at least a series, if not more. What does he need to see that he hasn't already seen? If he thinks he is giving the team the best chance to win on a day to day basis, that has obviously failed.
