RpR Verified Member Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 At this point, we quit a 10 million Simmons for a 35 million Simmons, actually at this point last year, Simmons' batting numbers were better than Correa's. I care little about his bat , it is his fielding skills that count, had we kept Falefa, we would be in the same boat we are now.

Myers the rest of the time. I need a downtown Minneapolis condo near the ball park with indoor parking, and a Sanibel waterfront home in Florida. Oh yeah... plus I need 4-5 million bucks. Don’t forget your private jet to get you back and forth.
AlwaysinModeration Verified Member Posted April 26, 2022 Author Posted April 26, 2022 Reasons Correa would sign an extension with the Twins: 1. Just had a baby, his wife is not going to want to move for the second time in twelve months. 2. Buxton - Correa bromance. 3. Seems to love this organization; from Baldelli to Falvey, seems to love their approach and the focus on analytics. 4. Boras will get 100% of the agent fee for any extension or new contract (unlike the contract he signed a few months ago, which was split with the prior agent.) 5. His poor start. Sure, he’s usually a slow starter, but if he has a bad year, or he gets injured, his market would likely be lower, so it would mitigate risk. Yes, he’s saying the right things, but he doesn’t have to say those things. Seems like there is a real opportunity to get him to stay longer than just the one year, in my view.

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I have been assured through Twins Daily that no one likes Minnesota and no one signs here. I believe this was a quote from some guy named Karl Knudson who was actively cooking some hotdish. For shame that we were fooled so easily over a concept so obviously false from the jump.

Number3 Verified Member Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Correa must be friends with Kyrie Irving of the Nets. They meet for drinks in delusion land often.
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 It seemed genuine and he seems like a really well liked and great teammate. That being said, let's go win some ball games. The better this team performs the more likely it is an extension, at least IMO.

Geez, they're in 1st place in the AL Central, what more could we want?!?!?

GNess Verified Member Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Yes to me it's a no-brainer, if Correa wants to stay the FO should try to make that work.

I hate to tell you Brock, but the Pohlads have at least one option on the table that saves them $295 M off of your idea..
LastOnePicked Verified Member Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I love Correa as a Twin. I love his attitude and the level of commitment he brings to winning. I hope this is a magical year. But I can't even imagine a long-term deal for him here. We're not that kind of franchise, and this FO doesn't like those kinds of contracts. Boras is never going to let him take a discount to stay here, even if somehow $25M per year for 8 years would be enough. But the good vibes are nice. I'm glad he's having a good experience here. That's exactly what I wanted.

Sure, but I tend to think agents like Boras are chosen by players because they are known for getting the most $$$ possible.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Both parties really would have to want this. The Twins have a top prospect in St. Paul to deal with and they will probably have to count on inexperienced pitchers rather than acquiring a proven veteran. I just don’t like the idea of paying huge dollars for middle infielder in his mid to upper thirties. I think this is a real stumbling block.
laloesch Verified Member Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 I think this is a good thing, not sure it will happen, but hey if he's a good clubhouse presence and picks up production to more of what is expected of him, i can't imagine the front office wouldn't be interested.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Where would he end up … Yankees? Maybe he doesn’t want to play in New York? just a thought, which is likely not the case but saying it out loud anyway. Maybe whatever we offer, we include an unlimited supply of Jucy Lucy’s ?
