Kiriloff and Thorpe are definite a "No" for me. Garver is a no (though I think the Twins should call him up today).

 

Anyone else besides the obvious no's I'd probably be fine with.

For a mediocre rental. If they do that deal Falvine should be immediately fired.

If we're gonna go get someone like Garcia (rental) the Twins might as well go get one rental relief pitcher. I'm thinking Addison Reed or Pat Neshek, since both imo seem affordable in terms of prospects. Although I'm not exactly sure what the Mets or the Phil's needs are.

 

And if we go after Reed I definately feel we should add Bartolo Colon to sweeten the deal because if feel the Mets do want him back. Also I don't want someone considering retirement based on how his start against the best team in baseball goes, when we're in middle of a playoff hunt.

Jaime Garcia is an intriguing add, though his upside is pretty limited. He should fit in as the #4 starter ahead of Gibson and Colon. We have had plenty of pitchers go NL to AL and bust, so that is a concern. This doesn't seem to fit the FO's mantra of "controllable talent over rental players", but obviously every move they make isn't going to reflect this.

 

Hopefully they won't give up too much. Giving up Kiriloff or Garver would be too much, but other considerations like Haley and Melotakis would not happen. I think Blankenhorn would be a fine price to pay, just looking at the stats.

So many comments about posters and their feeling. So tiresome. So very tiresome. Shoring up the back or middle of the rotation is a good idea, depending on the cost of course. Did I mention how tiresome it is that people have to constantly comment on posters and their feelings, rather than what is happening? We have a whole thread for that.

This seems to me a reasonable first step. It won't take much to get more from the bottom of the rotation than what they've gotten.

If this is a top 15 prospect I'll be pretty annoyed.  A very average pitcher from the NL isn't something I give up any prospect that has a high ceiling.

Strictly a guess, but I'll say Alex Robinson or Sam Clay.  I think Andrew Vasquez (who we'd better keep) has made either of these loogie relievers expendable.

I'm a fan of the move if we aren't giving up a priority prospect in the deal. Solid #4 starter that should only help out the rotation. Good example of cautious buying.

I'm actually thinking it might be John Ryan Murphy. It makes tons of sense. They are hurting for catchers and he still has tons of upside. He is behind Garver and he is on the 40 man roster.

Someone on Braves site threw out Blankenhorns name, pure speculation. A bunch of them want Garver, Jay, Thorpe, salivating over Kiriloff. Surprised they new so much of our Farm system. They even went so far to check box scores to see if anyone was pulled from tonight's games They couldn't find anyone.

 

They follow me on Twitter. I spent about 2.5 hours answering questions about the Twins system from Braves fans that have read me as a Braves writer for the last 4 years LOL

 

I retweeted Seth's post that he had checked on the minor league lineups, which is I'm sure how that info got out as well.

 

Matt got most of his info from me over the course of the night, though he's plenty knowledgeable in his own right on prospects.

Considering the best prospect that the Braves gave up to get Garcia was someone in or below the Jake Reed/Pat Light/etc territory, and the others were not high cieling risks either, yes I'd be annoyed if it is someone like Blankenhorn, a consensus top 10 in the system.

 

They gave up a piece expected to be part of their major league bullpen. Prospect rank really doesn't matter at that point. Then you have one live arm with difficulty finding the strike zone and a gritty second baseman in the low minors with good pedigree. It was a pretty decent package of players to give up.
