meh.  Braves and Twins are/were just kicking the tires.  News gets leaked.  Other teams are asking about Garcia, too.  Wash, rinse, repeat.  No deal.

Garcia is healthy. He is pitching better than 2016. The demand for starters is greater. It will cost more to get him now. The Braves took a risk with Colon, Garcia and Dickey to the tune of 32.5 million and 3 marginal prospects. They will get a nice return for Garcia.

Garcia is healthy. I wonder if by "medicals" the Twins were only raising his medical history in order to get a better deal. Garcia has missed a lot of time in the past to injury, which for the present would be irrelevant, because he seems to be healthy right now.

I think the Braves leaked the rumor in order to get more irons in the fire for Garcia from other teams.  "Alright everyone, we have a bid for Garcia!  Going once, going twice...."

 

Not too happy with the local reporting on what's been going on with this trade. All the Strib/PPress reporters jumped to tweet, retweet, and speculate on this trade. But now that it's off, they have gone quiet and almost pretending nothing ever happened.

It's almost like this saga gave everyone a blank slate to dump on the Twins front office all of their grievances and assumptions, real or imagined. Win/win all around.

I'll make my own unfounded assumption, makes me wonder if it was Melotakis or another injured reliever.

Makes you wonder who was in the deal. So many guys have medical issues but most are pitchers. Kohl Stewart? Lewis Thorpe?

Hopefully the player they're referring to is a relief pitcher and not Stewart or Thorpe.

Garcia is still a rental. But the Twins do have a number of prospects that MAY have to be protected on the 40-man. They might as well trade someone on the fringe that they probably won't protect rather than lose them. Or to make a roster spot for someone else (which is what they did, essentially last year, with Alex Meyer...deciding he wouldn't work into their plans).

 

So if it is a pitcher on your fringe for a rental that you MIGHT wish to resign, go ahead and do it, I...guess.
