Yes, probably out for quite a while. Pretty sure Garlick will be the call .

Maybe. I’d guess Julien, especially if Polanco is banged up but not bad enough to put on the 10 day IL.

Some good options available at least. Probably have to look at what’s on the schedule until Kepler is ready.

Mentioning Garlick in this context reminds me of something I’ve been wondering. Is Gordon just an outfielder at this point?  He hasn’t had an infield start since April 11th even when Correa has needed a break somewhere. And if so, he’s already dropped well down the ranks of lefty outfielders when everyone is healthy. Even if he can play center sorta Castro is ahead there as well. Unfortunate for him to get hurt but it does open up several roster options.

Yes, Castro pretty much covers what Gordon has been doing since Farmer returned for sure, plus he switch hits and can steal a base. I've been the conductor of the Willi Castro train for quite a while, and I see a role for him both in the infield and outfield. I think Rocco trusted Gordon a bit more in center, but he preferred Willi in left, right, third and short.

Farmer and Castro provide coverage to just about everything but first base. Solano and Gallo back up Kirilloff there. The hope was that Nick was starting to hit better than Willi ever could, but in just about every other aspect, Willi Castro is a better fit for this club.

If he's out for months, I think Nick Gordon will be missed as much for his attitude and presence in the clubhouse.

Does Buxton finally starting playing some innings in CF?

Let's hope so because, once again, who else is there? There's Taylor and Buxton. Let's hope not Castro <shudder>.

Castro is a pretty good outfielder with a much better arm than Gordon. I don't know if <shudder> is the right response.

I doubt we'll see Buxton in the outfield anytime soon. He's playing and the management team is convinced this is the way to go.

I’m specifically referring to Castro in CF. I’m not sure that’s a good thing. But I guess you are right in pointing out that Gordon isn’t exactly great out there, either, Buxton needs to take the field at this point.

Feel terrible for Nicky G! It has been such a long road to health for him, and now a fracture!

Agreed. Plus, Gordon had been playing much better the past couple of weeks, and looking solid in CF. This one hurts.

Way to go throw an player in the mix not on the 40 man and figure that out. 😀

I thought about that.  It could end up forcing them to trade or cut Solano .  Deleon or Sands could be cut too and what about Mahle?  What's the point of keeping him on the 40 man.  Is there some sort of rule that prevents the twins from cutting him?

I was trying to be sarcastic/funny, I agree there a guys that could be cut(I think Mahle is already on the 60 day), and if now is not the time to call him up at 27 year old "prospect" when is? If he doesn't play well, you cut him, what team is going to pick up a 27 year old player that didn't play well in the majors. (I say the same thing about Funderburk)

The idea you can horde unproven mid twenties or older prospects and not think it is going to cause 40 man headaches is crazy.

It better be Helman.

His OPS is currently 1.145 - Power, Speed and he plays multiple positions.

Garlick -- Currently hitting .210 and he plays one position that is well covered.

We have a team full of players hitting .210 already. We don't need another one of those.

If the front office goes Garlick. It will shake my confidence in them. It will mean they chose short side platoon over a better hitter.

Darkhorse candidate .... Michael Hellman?   Kind of a RH version of Gordon.

Looking up his stats it says he was put on the IL on MAY 12 for a shoulder dislocation

Mahle is already on the 60. Gordon could go on the 60 too.

Short term move for the trip to Anaheim. They will face two left handed starters against the Angels and return home and then can activate Kepler. If Polanco and Gallo are good to go, that is the cleanest and easiest move to make. If Polanco is going to be out, adding Julien makes the most sense.

As Squirrel notes, Helman is on the Saints IL. When he’s off, this may be his shot.

I like this idea. Julien in for Gordon. Then send down Castro when Kepler is back. I think Julien could do wonders playing infield. Maybe give Farmer some days off and he okays third? He could be a good lead off guy so we don’t have to keep seeing Kepler there everyday.

Bummer for Helman.

I get the left handed starters in Anaheim. But Kyle Garlick isn't hitting that well across the river. If you are going to call up a right hander to face the lefties. I'd like one that is hitting well.

Besides... if we are looking at platoon execution. I'm not... but the front office seems to.

Consider that the injuries yesterday were two lefty swingers in Gordon and Gallo with Polanco a switch hitter.

Current healthy Twins who hit right handed are: Vazquez/Jeffers - Buxton, Correa, Farmer, Solano, Taylor with Castro a switcher.

That's 7 of 9 spots against lefthanders so I wonder if Garlick is really necessary because Larnach and Kirilloff would be the healthy lefties.

So... who pinch hits against that right handed reliever the Angels will throw after the left handed starter is pulled and who plays against the Right Handed Ohtani on Sunday. Kepler isn't eligible to be reinstated until Tuesday?

I agree that Garlick is a clean move because of 40 man considerations. Limiting the choices to those on the 40 man. Your choices are Julien, Miranda, Wallner and Garlick. All clean moves.

Wallner and Julien are hitting decently. I'd take one of those two for Gordon. I'd take the other one for Gallo or Polanco if either require a stint on the DL.

Moving off the righty/lefty splits and back to what I'd like to see. I want the hitter that is hitting better right now. I'm not looking at projections or who SHOULD be hitting better. I'm looking at who is hitting the ball. I wouldn't mind tripping over a Casey Schmitt type performance for 30 AB's even if he cools down to what Casey Schmitt is supposed to be later on.

Recent 4 game team offensive hotness aside. We still need hitters so in my opinion I'll take hitters over splits.

If all 3 require a DL stint? Uff da. I guess we are looking at Miranda and Garlick in that scenario.
