The Twins have acquired Chris Paddack and Emilio Pagan in exchange for Taylor Rogers. Other pieces in the deal as well.

I like that they got a guy that just turned 26 (1/8) and has been in the league 3 years and averaged above 5 innings for his career,  except last year when he wasn't great with control for a couple of years for a guy that is a FA at the end of the last year.

Don't like it took the best RP and further added to the 40 man crunch with Pagan being included. Didn't see Rooker was added, but still that means they need to add another OF to the 40 man?

If they get Paddack's ERA to match his peripherals this is a great deal for the Twins in the big picture. If they don't it's still an even deal due to Paddack's extra control (assuming he's a league average pitcher for those 3 years). Don't like losing Rogers, but big picture this is a solid deal.

The last piece is Rooker or Larnach going to SD. The Saints pulled Larnach out of the game last night. This is probably all about team control for the most part. Paddack is under team control for the next 3 years, and Pagan for two. Rogers is a FA after this season. No doubt Rogers is going to be missed. Pagan had 20 saves a few years ago, so he might be the main closer now. Maybe one of the young guys can step up.

If those values are correct, that’s highway robbery.

Welcome to the forums!

But stay tuned, we may be trading you to PadresDaily.com. :)

By the way, Rooker is confirmed in this deal.

Logically...I see the sense in it: you may not want to resign Rogers so you deal him for an upside arm with 3 years of control.  Still...itd doesn't feel great.  Hopefully the Twins unlock his upside.

So now who do we acquire to replace Rogers in the BP?  He has been our best reliever for a long time - and right now I felt like the BP needed to succeed more than our starters.  This is really confusing.  If Paddack replaces Ober I will be really disappointed.

Good luck to Rogers and Rooker. Twins needed another starter, had to give up something. Rogers probably would have been moved last year at deadline if had not been injuried.

Wasn't Rogers one of their most reliable pitchers? Seems like a move for the sake of making a move.

Rogers is 31 years old, the Twins' highest paid reliever (and 2nd highest paid pitcher), and a free agent at season's end, So it makes some sense to try to move him.

He is a reliable relief pitcher who is 30 and we only have this 1 year of control.   The twins management is all about making incremental improvements and finding value.   Overall as a fan slightly disappointed but honestly to be able to get a reliable young pitcher is well worth it if we can help him re find his confidence.

I’m sad that Rogers was dealt. Relief pitchers don’t seem to have much value with this front office, but the bullpen as a whole, is going to be vital. Youngsters Duran and Alcala will have to step up.

I love Rogers, but it seems like we are forgetting he had a terrible year in 2020 and was shut down for 1/2 the year last year.  I understand Paddock also has injury concerns, but he has 3 years of control and good upside.  Rogers wasn't going to be here next year anyway.

I still think the F.O. is setting up for next year when the kids are ready and Maeda returns.  If Correa somehow stays next year, we could be awesome!

This year.... I'm not so sure.

Extra bonus for the Rogers boys parents.  They'll be able to watch a lot of games in California with both their kids playing.

They were reportedly still in talks with the A's for Montas yesterday, but I suppose that one is a dead issue now.

I'd guess 6 man rotation, for now.

I just wish we could package the three veteran question marks for one good pitcher - may Oaklands wants all of them in a trade?

I don't see anyone talking about converting Paddack to a hard throwing reliever. Considering he has very good velo, a solid changeup, and a bad curveball, he probably has more upside as a 2 pitch late reliever than a backend starter.

Does a 6 man rotation take longer to stretch out or less time because of the days between starts?

FYI, I hate the idea of a 6 man rotation because that means less pitching from Gray and Ryan. Unless they can keep those two on a regular schedule and mess with the last 4.

The Twins host Faith Day on April 16.   I wonder how the addition of PAGAN will influence that.  Maybe add a “Graven Image” to the day.
With PADDACK, and just a slight spelling adjustment, the Twins could enhance their marketing with Canterbury Park and/or Running Aces.
I think the Twins have an abundance of outfielders.  This seems like a good trade overall

I actually like this trade. 2 controllable-affordable pitchers for 1 year of Rogers and a controllable but possibly superfluous iffy power outfield bat. Rogers is good but Pagan is no slouch, and Paddack can be a quality starter or as HG3 pointed out above, maybe a lockdown reliever.

Huh. Not sure how I feel about this. I find Paddack interesting, especially if he can find his 2019 form or at least get near his peripheral numbers in 2021. I don't see Rogers as much of a sure thing he was pre-2020. Time will tell, but I think this is a pretty good move.

Whether everyone likes all these moves that Fal-Vine have made this season is definitely debatable...a big name front line starter or two would be really great instead of the usual suspects...you can't argue with the fact that they've been extremely active about making changes. I've been here for 40 years and I've never seen anything like this! They're going crazy.

I love this trade. The Twins get a young and talented SP, and a BP arm (who maybe stays, and maybe doesn't). They give up the 2022 playing year of Taylor Rogers, and a prospect who is now 27, and is still trying to make the jump to major leaguer. Plus, the Twins retain exactly the same chance of re-signing Rogers as they would have had without the trade.

Considering the number of SPs on the big league team, I too thought '6 man rotation', but given the short spring training, it might be craftier to basically schedule piggy-backs through the first couple turns, then let performance start to build your basic 5 while keeping everyone stretched out. (Along with the current 5 of Ryan, Ober, Gray, Bundy, Archer; can be added Paddack, Winder, Cotton, and Jax.) I have my own guesses to as to who will pitch themselves off the roster or into more regular bullpen gigs, but I suspect play will make it evident quickly enough, and it does allow for a slower ramp up in a year likely to have a bumper crop of pitching injuries.
