Interesting note I read... Miguel Sano has 77 days remaining before he surpasses 3 years of service time... He could be a minimum salary player again next season depending on how long the demotion lasts.

 Hitting coaches: Ft. Myers is Steve Singleton. Javier Valentin for Double A. Chad Allen for Rochester. I will say that Borrego at Ft. Myers is the only Latino manager the twins have and he was the field Manager of our Dominican Academy in 2009, which if memory serves was around the time Migs was drafted. Maybe they A) think that a manager who can speak directly to him and not through an interpreter will help. Or maybe Miguel actually played for Borrego in the DR.

 

Borrego would have been his manager with the GCL Twins in 2010. He was manager in the GCL for a long time before getting the Miracle job this year.

They haven't developed a lot because most of their roster isn't players developed in the system.

 

This cuts both ways though.  If you don't develop players, you kinda get players developed elsewhere, no?

I'm surprised Sano was sent down but he probably needs it. Not every prospect travels and easy path.

 

As far as homegrown players, the Twins had the most of any team that made the playoffs last year with 14.

I was more for Sano figuring things out at the majors and then my second thought is that about half the hitters could be sent to the minors to work on things.  However upon reflection, I think this actually shows they still believe in him and think its best he does a reset, build back his swing and confidence.   Best outcome is he spends several weeks done there and comes back after the All-Star break.   Boy this season is sure turning out to be pretty depressing.  We haven't seen Santana pitch yet, Polanco suspended, Buxton and Mauer missing big stretches of time, Castro out, multiple hitters struggling.  At least we have Rosario and Escobar and some positive starting pitching.

The real reason that Sano was sent there is because they have the highest ticket prices of all the Twins minor league teams.

 

Purely a joke. But knowing the Twins you never know.

Most of them weren't good though. Developing players like Tyler Duffy isn't some impressive feat.

Maybe this should have been done before Petit was DFA. Now the Twins have no reserve infielder until Polanco is eligible, which is still almost a month away.

 

Poor roster management.

 

Even if the Twins got an offer for Dozier, they would have to pass because they lack an infielder (they are willing) to call up.

Amazing how the Twins two "can't miss" superstars of the future have both hit rock bottom this year. Buxton and Sano aren't just floundering, they aren't just struggling, they aren't disappointingly average...they are really at the bottom-of-the-barrel of their respective careers.

 

We love to complain about Sano and Bux, but this is epic failure is equally about the Twins development team & major league coaching staff.

 

I can see how maybe one of these guys wouldn't meet expectations. But both of them just SO terrible at this point in their careers? I'm embarrassed for the Twins organization, this is just unforgivable. Total system failure, just like 2016.

Belisle already filled Petit’s. Presumably Taylor Motter would be the other call up. I really can’t see a situation where having literally no backup for Escobar, Adrianza or Dozier makes sense.

Fort Myers has worst record in the Twins minor system. Something like 12-13 games under .500

Sano should take Dozier with him, and Morrison.  It's a long drive, drop off Dozier in Cedar Rapids and Morrison in Elizabethton.

Try to trade Sano now! Talk about a total devaluation of a very high value asset since Falvine took the reigns. Their fault? Not necessarily, but happening under their watch. This all is. And it is not going very well, as a whole, eh? This was the year that it all was to fall into place.........

I wish I could have seen Sano's reaction.  I would hope he does not resist the work on body and fundamentals if he finds he can blast the class A pitchers.

I have never seen such a lineup collapse.  It is so bad we are not talking about Reed and Duke.

Now that you mention it, this year might be more like 2011 than 2016, or a combination of both.    Not that makes me feel any better.

 

Mauer and Morneau were 23 and 25 in 2006.    I am not sure I appreciated how young they were when they became key players.

Sano has to get his head right at the plate. His plate discipline must improve.

 

If he improves it... I think we could all be quite happy with the results and it could happen quickly. If he doesn't... He'll be Chris Carter at best and we already have one of those. 

 

He's needs to cut that strikeout rate...  Significantly.

 

Sending him down is a two birds with one stone move. It gives them a chance to work on the severe issues that have taken him over and do it out of the spotlight. The 2nd bird... Molitor can't play him... the temptation to let him work his way through it is removed and that could actually improve the team in the short term. 

 

Should Buxton be next? I'd say Buxton has been worse so I vote yes.
