Nope.

I don't think there is much left in him. Still waiting for the day they bring him back into the organization in some capacity.

We have too many DH/1B players already. This would be a stupid move. I wish Morneau all the best, but not as a player for the Twins.

As a courtesy, I could maybe see a reunion when rosters are expanded at the end of the year.  I think it would be a nice gesture in recognition to what he did for the Twins early in his career.

But right now?  No way.  Twins need to focus on the future.

What year was that, they brought back Kubel, Bartlett, one other guy, like "Hey, we don't have a competitive team but, we got these familiar faces".  Gardy/Ryan = pathetic.

Morneau no.

Crazy as it sounds, I might be OK with this. I read it on CBS Sportsline and their comment was it would almost certainly be on a milb deal. That I could make sense of. Look, I think he's done. But with questions surrounding Park and Vargas...even though they need to PLAY...they each have options, JM would be cheap and simply have an invite. Lightening could strike. I would bet against it however. But sort of a final shot and contract with his original team before riding off in to the sunset?

minor league deal would be worth the look. But I still hope if there were a DH signed it would be a guy who could fake it in RF once in a while.

Hard pass. Enjoy your family, enjoy your kids (I assume he has them?) and most importantly, enjoy your health. Why continue to take the risk of another concussion that could derail your life as you know it?

We do know we are trying to build for beyond this year, right? How, exactly does Justin help with that? Maybe he's that mentor that their current vets aren't, I guess.....but you'd think that maybe COL would want him back if he's all that and a bag of chips.

I don't get this at all. Whether Park or Vargas can play or not, it would be nice to find out this year, so they can either play them or move onto other options when it matters.

I like the warm fuzzies as much as the next guy, but I want to see Falvine and Levey do something not so "Classic Twins."

There's got to be a former Twin out there who can come out of the bullpen, right?

He hasn't been healthy since 2014.....what is the payoff for this, exactly?

Whether he has a year left, or not, isn't there value in seeing if Vargas (who can be controlled for several years) is good or not? Or Park, even?

Don't see a fit here - we already have Mauer at first.   In essence they are the same player.    The only situation I could see is if we are in June and Vargas and Park are both a disaster or Mauer is injured and the season is not down the toilet then maybe.

So stupid, this makes zero sense once so ever.
Don't get me wrong, Morneau is one of my favorite players ever, but give me a freaking break. The fact that the Twins are even considering this gives me pause when it comes to the new FO....first the bungled Dozier trade, no impact signings in FA, and now another pointless reunion?

Not a good look guys.

Well Berardino said there was an unnamed "person with direct knowledge" who said there was mutual interest in bringing him back. In the very next paragraph he started quoting Michael Cuddyer.

Just putting two and two together, there's probably a decent chance that Cuddyer is the "person with direct knowledge" considering his new role, while at the same time, I would also guess that Cuddyer probably only has a water-cooler-gossip grasp of what the actual off season game plan is.

btw, I'm with Dave, Justin is one of my favorite players and people.

Justin Morneau is the reason my 1st grade son is a twins fan.

Morneau put up a 100 OPS+ last year. That's not too bad considering he didn't play in the majors until July. I think he's got something left.

OPS+ is a rate start, not a counting stat, so not playing in the majors until July doesn't make it any more impressive.

100 OPS+ at DH isn't enough reward, IMO, to justify not seeing what you have in Vargas and/or Park.

Vargas has a career OPS+ of 103, and still has potential to improve.

He may have been joking, but he's at least partially right.

Morneau had already suffered multiple concussion before he even made the big leagues, and I don't recall any appeals to retire for the sake of his health back when he was a perennial MVP candidate.

And that's OK. He's a grown man, he gets to make his own decisions. It's his life to live. Nobody has to feel bad if they don't worry about another adults health choices, 64 ounce big gulps not withstanding.

I know what OPS+ is. I'm saying it's impressive because he was coming back from an injury and came back in the middle of the season.

I love Morney. He married a girl from the area, and everyone who met him said he was a great guy. He was a great player for the Twins for some years, and one of the few guys you stopped doing what you were doing when he came to bat. Above all I will miss his very clear pronunciation of the F word when something went wrong during an at bat! A blind guy could have read his lips! But, on this team, at this time, he doesn't fit. And it's not even close. While I bet it's a no brainer for him, it should also be for the Twins. And I really hate saying that.
