I think half of what Mike B posts is trolling fans like us.

I stand by this. Clicks and conversation. Name dropping a former Twin makes it doubly so.

"Here's another example. There have been whispers about the Twins bringing back Justin Morneau. Morneau and the Twins did have a conversation, but the sides realized that there's no room for him on the roster."

Morneau is an odd duck. Last year he actually hit LHP better than RHP.
I think he does that kind of thing just to mess with people.

Love the guy, and I think that if someone picks him up he could have a pretty productive season for them. Sadly, he doesn’t fit on the Twins roster. I’m glad they reached that conclusion.

click bait is critical for every publication that draws its revenue from online advertising....

Nothing clickable here....

Cough...Dozier Trade Thread....Cough

Dave I kid! I loved the speculation, please don't take offense

Why would I take offense? It's not like I see any of that sweet sweet ad revenue I bring the site ;)

Two theories from way out in left...

1) Twins will sign Morneau to a minor league/Spring Training invite, if he doesn't get a better deal/MLB deal from another club before players report for camp. He gets released if he doesn't come north on Opening Day.

2) Mornie enjoys a farewell tour/last-chance-to-prove-myself with the St. Paul Saints... C'mon, I'd buy a ticket.

Not a good look guys.

Thats part of the Twins' new marketing slogan for 2017, and the main factor in why they didn't trade Dozier.

"Not a good look, guys, but we got some good looking guys. Come on down to Target Field!"

The difference of course is that Mike B is theoretically a professional.

Yeah, that seems like something the front office probably already knew before the conversation.

Which probably means the "conversation" started with Morneau's agent calling the Twins and the Twins saying thanks, but no thanks.

if someone pays you to provide a service, you generally provide the service. In Daves case he gave the milk for free, it was ownership of TD that benefitted.

It's sports, not overthrowing a democracy. Why is click bait inferred to as bad?

We are all willing participants and I for one am happy to have been able to discuss far more ludicrous things in a baseball offseason than signing Justin Morneau.

Does Kennys Vargas still have a minor league option left?

Kennys Vargas does have a 4th option year. The Twins got a fourth option year for Vargas.

"Major League Baseball grants a fourth option to teams when a player has five or fewer professional seasons under his belt but already has burned through three optional assignments."

These professional seasons often don't include years spent in short-season ball because the player isn't on an active roster for more than 90 days. Vargas started playing full-season ball in 2012 so this is his 5th professional season and he's been in the majors three different years. I imagine the rule is designed to give teams the ability to bring a young guy up quickly for a taste or to cover a short absence without worrying about losing an option that might be valuable later.

Jorge Polanco will likely have similar eligibility should he need it.

For Vargas, this makes it less likely he'll make the majors since the Twins can stash him in AAA if they want. It might not be the worst idea to make him earn MLB time since his admittedly great success was in a short sample last season. I'm not as sold on Morneau being the reason for this - I'd like a guy who might make a better trade chip than Morneau, who seems likely to bring back a C level prospect at best.

indeed, an agent needs to drum up business for their client

There's nothing bad about it. Like you said, it's baseball. The profession is based on throwing stuff against the wall.

So stupid, this makes zero sense once so ever.

Don't get me wrong, Morneau is one of my favorite players ever, but give me a freaking break. The fact that the Twins are even considering this gives me pause when it comes to the new FO....first the bungled Dozier trade, no impact signings in FA, and now another pointless reunion?

Not a good look guys.

One of my all-time favorites but this does nothing to help rebuild this team. The new management is really grasping for straws right now. Not good.

But it was a Minnesota reporter that mentioned it to begin with....hard to give the Twins the blind benefit of the doubt on this one, especially what has happened thus far this off season and the last 20+

Justin, we know you still have a little bit of game in you. Leave it be. Be with your family. We have a handful of players clogging up the spots you would fill.

You won an MVP, almost two. Us fans are appreciative of that. Let it go, for your own peace of mind, think of your family and the sacrifices they made for you.

I wouldn't go that far. I would encourage him to keep at it and try to catch on with an MLB at somepoint this season, ideally he could join a contending team as either a replacement for a DH/1B or as a PH/DH platoon type so that he can try to get a ring.

Considering the reporter, very easy to give the Twins the benefit of the doubt.

Morneau chatter originated with Mike B right?

I'm not interested in trying to crack the Dodgers-Twins negotiations in that other ridiculous thread happening.

Oops, my bad, yeah it was Mike B.

I think Mike B is great and very trustworthy to be honest

Everybody remember how happy Mauer was with his boy Morneau being on the same team, not to mention the numbers Mauer put up.  Hell for that reason only its worth a flyer on Morneau.  I'm certainly not sold on Park

i don't think Mauer and Morneau's results were causal. Concussions certainly were causal and they were independent events:

While I agree that Park was a terrible signing at the time and continues to be a terrible signing, replacing him with a guy like Morneau on a team that will more than likely struggle to win 75 games makes very little sense.

I hope morneau has a last year in him, I also hope he can contribute for a team that has a shot at the playoffs.
