Folks are too worried about the money. It's TV money & revenue sharing money. The Twins need to spend it on someone and Correa may be the only one willing to come. I would like to see him play along with our improved core, Lewis, Polanco, Arraez, Miranda, & Buck. Plus others to be determined. The Twins realize that he'll bring in the fans. But Correa wants his long term guaranteed money. Ten years should be enough but if he'll sign for $300 mil for 10 or 11 years then get it done. Buck is the wild card regarding health, not Correa. Their 2 contracts will offset each other.

Weirder things have happened. Ever since the Mets started getting cold feet I started to entertain that glimmer in my mind. If the Twins do sign him (still a BIG BIG if) I expect all the people who bashed the front office for apparently letting him get away to apologize. It may turn out that Falvine were timid like a fox all along.

I haven't bashed them for letting him get away, but have bashed them for not knowing 285 wasn't enough to get him and missing on other guys while waiting for a deal they should know wasn't good enough. Them blindly, yes, blindly, falling into a 2nd Correa deal wouldn't change my mind on that, and I'd absolutely not change my tune on the offseason to this point or apologize. If he ends up here, it's not because the Twins were so smart to know that the Giants and Mets would both pass on deals significantly better than theirs. They simply would've lucked into it and that's not worthy of praise.

They’ve agreed!  The deal is for 20 years.  They just haven’t agreed on how much they are giving him per year.  The Twins say 10.5 per year, whereas Correa wants 30.5 per year.  But stay tuned, this should be wrapped up shortly.

If the Twins sign Correa, these are the options:

  1. They're a blind squirrel that somehow always manages to find the nut
  2. They have a very specific crystal ball that only shows them the near future of Carlos Correa (and maybe Laverne & Shirley re-runs)

There is no third option.

That sounds about right!

Haven't heard anything in hours. This isn't surprising, as we all know Carlos Correa only signs contracts between midnight and 4am.

Agrees to terms between those hours. His signing hours are TBD.

Funny thing will be, if he does change course back to MN, based on the last two months, no one will believe it to be true until ink is on the paper.

I'm wondering if they sign before it's announced, or, they announce it just as they sign. That whatever medicals he has to go through will be done before anything gets said. IF ...

Or sometimes not at all!

If we can sign Correa do we sign Bauer to a 720,000 contract with the rest paid by the Dodgers?  That would give us an ace pitcher....

Personally, I am getting excited here.  I love Buxton but he is not reliable enough.  Correa would give the Twins a true superstar.  They haven't had one since Mauer and Morneau in their primes?  He can be the face of the organization.   Plus, he is a winner.  Maybe he can help us get over the playoff problems.

Yep, the Twins. I'm hearing somewhat vague details but my gut is saying the Twins land him. I keep hearing enough information to believe the biggest stumbling blocks have been cleared and they're down to arguing about dollars.

I hope so.  That would be an undertaker sitting up in the coffin moment for me, in regard to fan morale.

I don’t have sources.  But, my gut tells me the maximum we’ll get out of this is another media cycle praising them for finishing second in the bidding…again.

“Holy moly, they just offered the two biggest free agent contracts in team history in the same offseason….times are changing…again.  Revolutionary.  Knocking down paradigms like clay pigeons. nWo style hip-thrusts at anyone that says Pohlads are cheap.”

I can’t wait for the next scripted BSN Town Hall special where screened fans ask them pre-written questions about this.

It's not MY money, but I would be on board with signing Correa.  3 years and $105 million, 10 years, $285-$300 million is O.K. for me.  He's a cornerstone player to build around.  I'd prefer the shorter deal to see whether Lewis could play SS but I'll take whatever comes of this.

Oh if they miss on Correa yet again, they'll be skewered by the fanbase and I'd argue it's very well-deserved.

So, you think the Twins are in the driver's seat here again? Because they seem squarely behind the Mets (still) despite the recent reports. Unless you're hearing otherwise?

Sign Correa to a 10 year 350 million contract with the Twins having the opt out option after year 3.

It would never happen and would love to see an agent dumb enough to give a team an opt out clause instead of the player getting it.  Of course Boras is no idiot and it will never happen.

It would be nice to give them a taste of their own medicine.

I think they have a legitimate shot at Correa. Whether that's a 33% chance or a 60% chance, I don't know. But with reports of the Mets being "frustrated" at the exact same moment I'm hearing positive things about the Twins' negotiations with Boras, it leads me to believe the Twins have a legit shot at getting this done.

I wonder if Correa has a copy all the doctors' reports and tests that have been done. Seems they should all be competent reports. Does he own them? Certainly he gets a copy, regardless. Do the Twins need to do more tests? or just to interpret what has just been done, perhaps some of the tests twice already.?.?

And we already have plans to play Miranda at third. I hope Correa wouldn't be too disappointed about playing short instead of 3rd, as he has been identifying as a 3rd baseman for at least two weeks, and the emotional roller coaster could be devastating.

I am not a lawyer, but my understanding of the law in this regard is that the medical facility where care was provided owns the medical record. This is protected information and may be shared only with the patient, with anyone explicitly authorized by the patient to receive that information, or with anyone associated with the medical facility as needed to provide further care or for related purposes such as billing.

FWIW, Phil Miller of the Strib reports that the talks between the Twins and Correa have become serious.

Yep, I've seen several reports this morning, from different sources, saying that talks with the Twins are heating up. Now, whether that's Boras playing his game with the Mets, trying to get them to the finish line...well, I guess we'll see. Maybe there really is something to the Twins getting back into the mix.

From Roadhouse (altered to fit situation):

MLB team: Do you always carry your medical record around with you?

Correa: Saves time.

If they are the third team to pass on Correa,  the team would get a free pass.  You also are underestimating the fact Correa may not want to come back to the Twins.   If thats the case there isn't much the management could do.

Passan reporting 6/200 for Correa to Twins with vesting option maxing the deal out at 270.

So just how bad was that Mets deal?  200M over 6 years all of his prime years is the best deal I could have imagined.  If he meets the vesting option add another 4 years at 70M Absolutely perfect.  Am I dreaming.  Why would the Mets or Giants not so this deal?  They don't want the high AAV?  This sets the Twins up to give out larger contracts if some of the yong players turn into stars or superstars.  Like I said I couldn't imagine a more perfect deal for the Twins.  Correa just needs to stay healthy and bring that 4 WAR a year or so and he will really, really, help this team.
