This whole thing isn't adding up. If you're referring to the deal he signed last year, he passed the physical because it was for 1 year, not 12 or 13. And he had a slide this last season where he felt something in his surgically repaired leg. It's entirely possible that that slide aggravated something and the Drs with these other teams are now seeing that that leg isn't likely to hold up for as long as they'd like. Or the insurance company, as others have stated, don't like the odds of it holding up. He hasn't taken a physical for the Twins after their 10/285 offer so if that's the one you were referencing it's as simple as it hasn't happened so he hasn't passed anything. The way Cohen is spending on the Mets and not caring about his luxury tax impacts suggests to me that even if there is "something" in his physical, it's unlikely to matter. Cohen right now doesn't care about insurance and will almost certainly overrule his staff if needed. Wonder if this makes SF feel better? (Will Cohen start caring about all of the money running out the door if a) he doesn't win a title, or b) if he does? That might get interesting. Sometimes these guys flip the other way once they get that achievement...) Until we get more detail on what the issue is, I have no ability to judge the possible severity and impact and whether the Twins should try and jump back in. I do think if Boros is saying "no, you can't investigate this before increasing your offer if you want to get back in" then the Twins have to step carefully, because that's a red alert. The Cohen situation is interesting. He didn't overrule his staff on Rocker last year. How much more does he want Correa? I'd guess a lot, but he's also not blindly doing deals. He let deGrom walk. Likely due to his injury concerns I'd guess. He's aggressive, but I don't know that we should just assume he's going to be reckless here. D.C Twins, PseudoSABR, Mike Sixel and 1 other 4

The Twins definitely should've been concerned about what Correa's leg would look like in 8 years when they were signing a 1 year deal. They're so dumb! As a prospect in the Astros organization, a then 19-year-old Correa fractured his right fibula while playing in High-A in June 2014. The injury required surgery and cost him the remainder of that season. Last night, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic wrote about the dilemma and called San Francisco’s concern “pretty obvious” while linking to a 2014 Houston Chronicle story about the fibula fracture. I believe Correa had a hard slide this summer and felt some pain around the metal plate. I don't believe he missed any time, but something might be showing up on x-rays that raises concern. This is fairly accurate. In a Sept 20th game vs. Royals, Correa tweaked his surgically-repaired ankle and said it went numb & was tingling. The last time the Twins had a physical done with Correa was March 2022. According to Rosenthal & Hayes, the Twins requested a new physical when the Giants deal fell apart and also wanted some time to look into it, but instead, Boras moved on to the Mets. I did a deep-dive on all of this & Correa's related injuries in my latest video:

Everyone treated the deal like a one year deal, but it was three. And with the new injury concern news, those two extra years for 70M made the deal more of a reality than we thought.

You're assuming their injury concerns are for the first 1 or 2 years of 12 and 13 year deals. But to each their own. Mike Sixel 1

weitz41 Verified Member Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 I saw this earlier today and was hoping it worked out in the Twins favor. But on second thought I hope it works out for Carlos Correa. Whatever that may be. Some athlete with a knee/leg/ whatever issue. I get it. 8-12 years with that in the background has to be cause for pause. BUT if you're signing anyone for that long you already threw caution to the wind. Stop trying to buy low and take care of the guy and his family. Did we notice anything last season. I sure didn't.
terrydactyls Verified Member Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 So much said above and so much worth commenting on. But I'll just say that the Twins should jump in right now and offer Correa (and Boras) 3 years at $15M/year. That's he's worth now that ankle, knee, and/or leg may give out at any time. This is sarcasm. Please don't respond.

And with the new injury concern news, those two extra years for 70M made the deal more of a reality than we thought. As many days off as Baldelli gave him, I would say that the Team Brass wasn't treating it like a one year. They were definitely treating him as an investment to be given rest for long lasting performance and durability (or at least hoping). If not, and he was a one year only investment, they would have played him more. That is what they were paying him to do. Play. Not sit on the bench.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Censored again. Let's try it this way...... since apparently you can't give a player a nickname, even if he basically gave it to himself. No more shopping at Dior..... time for the Thrift Store. It even rhymes. ? It really surprises me that Correa so easily bows out of SS and is good with playing 3rd. That is another devaluation. Just one year away from his Platinum Glove award at Shortstop, Is Lindor really that much the better option at short? I you had them both, who would you chose to play Shortstop?
