ScottyB Verified Member Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Add Sands to the taxi squad. Palacios was also on the squad, but was needed on the active roster. According to Doogie Wolfson, expect at least one starting pitcher to be restricted, as well as “a significant reliever” and “an outfielder”. The reliever was on the team last year. Some indications are that if the Twins are slated to face Toronto in the playoffs, some of the unvaccinated will reconsider.
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Any rumors that Speer will get a shot during this time of need? I know there are 40 man issues but I see now as a possible time to give him a chance at 2B. Polanco needs some time to heal that ankle.
Irishman Verified Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 i do not see any Twins prospects in AAA, or AA can come in and help. They are not ready.

If that is the idea, it probably makes more sense to call up Kirilloff and shift Arraez or Miranda to 2B with Kirilloff playing 1B.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Back in the day we'd say all of these injuries build character and the players as a whole will come out stronger because of them. Is that still the feeling? Or did we as a culture revert back to superstitions about curses, witch craft and demonic possession?
Rosterman Verified Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Well, the need a fifth starter, as Ryan would probably do a rehab in St. paul so he can pitch against the Yanks or at least start against the Rays. Yes, the joy is that with the restriucted players they can add non-40 man, I believe. Which means we may see Chi Chi or Rodriguez. The Twins could pull a whopper and add Cave for the weekend, because you can send them back (hey, aren't we paying Cave a hefty sum anyways to play in St. Paul)? But first, let's win today. With the Twins playing nine against Kansas City and Detroit, I was hoping for 7-2, or 6-3 at the worst. That's been shot to heck! How can we lose series against "weaker" teams?
strumdatjag Verified Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Will the Twins let us know the names of the five players who wouldn’t get vaxxed? The Vikings did it.

It should be pretty darn easy to figure out. Not sure why they kept it a secret for so long, maybe to give Toronto less time to prepare I'm guessing?

What we won't know is who already on the IL is unvaccinated, just those on the current 26-man who have to be removed before they travel.
big dog Verified Member Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Great, Cano is back. I tried to say that with enthusiasm, but it just didn't work.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Kepler, Thielbar, Pagán, and Megill are now inactive for the Toronto series. Chi Chi Gonzalez (Friday's starter) and Ian Hamilton are the two known replacements right now. Celestino is back with the team too, so he might be a third.
a-wan Verified Member Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 I'm pretty sure the front office was hoping Gonzalez was going to be starting pitcher depth, depth, depth, depth, depth. The fact he's starting shows how far down the depth they've gotten. Yikes.

I agree, however, they could have just as easily picked Canterino, Woods-Richardson or Varland for the spot and the tone around the promotion probably would have had a tinge of excitement. Gonzalez is just the only starter left in St. Paul who hasn't crapped the bed so they probably figured it was now or never with him.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Now do these replacements need to be added to the 40-man roster?

No, although CONTREAS IS ON THE 40-MAN. Basically they could've added back even Cotton and not send him thru waivers again when sent back.

But players on the restricted list don't count against the 40, so those spots are temporarily freed for their replacements. And once they are activated from the restricted list, as Rosterman indicates, the replacements in this case can be removed from the 40-man and sent back to the minors without needing to be waived.

lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 Also signed SP Aaron Sanchez to a MiLB deal.

Both could be closer to major league ready than anyone on the Saints staff. Now all the Twins need is 40-man roster spots, which going on the 15-day IL doesn't create. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/06/twins-sign-aaron-sanchez-tyler-thornburg-to-minors-deals.html I would almsot like to see Balazovic for a game, and the Henriquez for a game, than more of Sands right now...at least until Winder comes back. Or do the Twins cut loose, say, Minaya, to create a rotating 40-man spot and bring back Dereck Rodriguez. Ober means Cano stays, the one guy who needs to throw some innings in St. Paul to work on his stuff that isn't working in the majors.
