Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 Cano optioned, Coulombe back on the IL. Moran and Minaya called up from AAA (the latter of whom had to be added to the 40-man roster).
FlyingFinn Verified Member Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 Why bring up Minaya to add to the 40 man instead of Ian Hamilton? Maybe based on last year because the pitching performance this year would sure point to Hamilton being the guy. Or maybe this is a 40 man issue and the Twins plan to DFA Minaya but don't want to do that to Hamilton because someone would take him when they DFA him.

Hamilton probably has the best case of the non-roster pitchers at St. Paul. He was pretty good last year and he's been good again this year, although he got off to a delayed start. Minaya was good last year, but has had a couple of stinkers so far in AAA. I was in favor of Minaya getting a roster spot, so I guess I expect him to be fine with the Twins.
Danchat Verified Member Posted May 28, 2022 Author Posted May 28, 2022 I guess they just don't think very highly of Hamilton, or is he hurt? I'm not much of a fan of Minaya, but he did put up good numbers here last year. Maybe Coulombe should have got some rehab appearances in before being brought off the IL, looking bad, and going straight back. Hmmmm.

Hmmmm. Coulombe did have two minor league rehab appearances, earlier this week.

I was in favor of Minaya getting a roster spot, so I guess I expect him to be fine with the Twins. And I agree with this take. Just looking at his 2022 numbers, recalling the milb reports, he's had more BB and HR than he should have considering his IP and his experience. It's lead to a huge ERA. But the hits and K per are good as well as his .217 BA against and 1.29 WHiP. Considering what he's done with the Twins the past couple of seasons, I'm optimistic he's going to be solid. I was pleased he came back and think he didn't make the roster out of ST had a lot to do with the 40 man and some younger arms they just wanted to keep. I do have to admit though, I remain surprised by others getting their shot, or second shots, vs Hamilton getting his first. It's not as though the guys they've brought up haven't shown OK with St Paul and didn't deserve a chance, but why not Hamilton? I can only surmise that they like him, think he has a future, but are afraid to play the 40 man/DFA game with him for fear he'd be claimed and so they are "nurturing" him along after all he's been through so that when he's eventually added to the 40 man, he might be ready to stay on it. I am hopeful, disappointed and confused by Moran. He just turned 25yo in April, missed 2020 like so many, so he isn't old. His FB and slider are OK, though nothing special. It's his change that is outstanding and allows his other pitches to play up. His AAA numbers this season are pretty mediocre, but the potential is there to be very good. And his 3 games earlier with the Twins this year were good. I'm really hoping this is the opportunity where he settles in and becomes a long standing member of the pen.

LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 No, my bad. It's Lewis up, Miranda to St. Paul. Lewis in CF, Garlick in RF, Larnach in LF today.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Lewis to IL. Miranda returns. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/05/twins-to-place-royce-lewis-on-injured-list.html
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Makes sense, particularly if Kepler is ready or only a day or so away. Miranda was actually starting to hit when he got demoted so he's the right choice. Kirilloff needs to show consistent pain free play and is still a ways away from that. It's Buxton and Gordon in CF.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Any report on the two guys on the COVID IL? Obviously, it would be a big help for both Celestino and Ryan to be able to contribute as soon as possible.
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Correa has tested positive for COVID so a move is coming soon.

Danchat Verified Member Posted May 30, 2022 Author Posted May 30, 2022 It appears Cole Sands will be the 27th man for the doubleheader tomorrow.
ScottyB Verified Member Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 I presume there will be a slew of roster moves by tomorrow. It wouldn’t surprise me if one of the moves was to bring up Contreras. We need a backup CF’er with Correa hitting the COVID-19 list and Gordon moving to SS to replace. If Kepler is unavailable to play in the doubleheader, he’ll go on IL as well. With at least 3 on COVID-19 list, we can go off the 40 man. Does Steer play SS?
ScottyB Verified Member Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 Going to be interesting to see who goes to Toronto. The Twins obviously know who’s not vaccinated because they keep saying there will be at least a few who can’t go north. With all the bodies on the IL, this team will look more like the Saints than the Twins.
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 Looks like they called up Palacios. I'm guessing he's the SS, not Gordon so less need for an OF. Interesting choice. Shows that they prize defense over having Polanco at SS. I'm glad because if Polanco's ankle is barking now, it will just get worse if he ahs to play SS every day and Miranda is a bit of a train wreck at 1B.

Gordon is needed in the OF, imo, with Celestino out. And I'd rather Gordon, I guess, than Contreras? What a puzzle!

He is a lot younger than we think. Although NOT spectacular at AA Wichita, he did put up decent numbers, and the only reason he's not playing shortstop is because of Royce Lewis. So he ahs been getting reps in across the field, which makes him a viable infield reserve candidate going forwards. Now the Twins egt to take a decent 10-game look at the guy and see how he adjusts to the majors, and how he adjusts going back to the minors in a non-waiver/option situation before making a decision to add him to the 40-man this off-season.
LA Vikes Fan Verified Member Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 That's right, we don't have to add Palacios to the 40 man since he's a Covid replacement. Great way to get a look at someone before having to use an option or DFA someone else. It would be nice to find a way to get that same kind of look at spencer Steer.
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 The Twins have a taxi squad of three players with the team in Detroit with Cano, Kiriloff, and Contreras. So there's three that will probably be on the roster in Toronto.

I'm still curious to see who also leaves the roster when Celestino and Ryan return. Also, looks like Alcala is in Ft. Myers doing his rehab, so he will be on the cusp. But still, at least two weeks out.

Also possible that there are 2 others with the team that the radio team hasn't seen.
