Danchat Verified Member Posted October 12, 2022 Author Posted October 12, 2022 I am surprised Cave and Hamilton will get a 40 man spot over the offseason... if they keep it, of course. Palacios getting claimed by Detroit has some serious Niko Goodrum vibes, he could make a decent bench infielder. But I don't mind the Twins DFA'ing any of these 5 guys.

Very similar to Niko and I think the Kitties would be satisfied if Jermaine had a similar run with them.

Ironically the best player passed through waivers (Smeltzer)
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Sorry to see Cave go. You could always count on him to hustle out of the box.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Smeltzer elected free agency, as he qualified. Soto also has declared his free agency. Was on the major league roster, but didn't play.
CRF Verified Member Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Kind of surprised no one took Smeltzer. I don't necessarily want him back, but out of all of them, he's the one guy I figured would get claimed. Cave helped us out a lot this season. Good back up guy. 100% pure hustle. I wish him the best. The other guys? No loss there...see ya.
goliath Verified Member Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Cave, Palacios and Hamilton all gone! Yikes! That was 1/3 of the Twins' starting lineup at the end of the year!
Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Sorry to lose Cave he provided quality depth at the corners. After Correa opts out and before Lewis is ready, Palacios is our top SS, a quality glove. DET believed that his bat will catch up to his glove & rightly so. MN probably thought they could sneak him through, but w/ DET not likely. We are really hurting at SS right now. They should have hung unto him longer like they did to Cave last year.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 While I appreciate the contributions these guys made when the Twins were in a tight spot due to injuries, I'm happy to see the team has other ideas for their spots on the roster.
RpR Verified Member Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 With Cave gone , Twins need a GOOD veteran left fielder; some seem to think Larnach is the latest greatest but nothing so far has show him to be more than another rookie wannabe. A month from now it will be interesting to see what the Twins office has done with players coming and going.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Danny Coulombe DFAed and has declared free agency. The official roster still is over 40 players, but at least seven players will become free agents after the World Series.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 In preparation for setting the 40-man roster, the Twins officially declined the options for Dylan Bundy, Chris Archer and Miguel Sanó. I count 37 on the 40-man roster. Still included on the roster are Emilio Pagán, Kyle Garlick and Mark Contreras.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 Cody Stashak was placed on waivers, not claimed and chose to be a minor league free agent.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 With the Gallo signing someone had to go off the 40-man roster. The Twins DFAed Mark Contreras as they made the Gallo signing official. IMHO, Contreras was the last "easy" cut off the 40-man roster. For a rookie, he's older and his short stay this year showed nothing remarkable. Also, he's about 8th on the list of LH hitting corner OFs. That he logged 42 days on the active roster shows how deep the injuries were for outfielders last year.
