LaMarre Claimed by White Sox

He doesn't seem like the kind of player the Sox go for but good for him.  He worked his way into a lineup and got noticed.  Definitely a 4th outfielder but I really liked what he brought to the Twins this year.  We have better options waiting in the wings, but I was cheering for the guy.

Looking at his numbers, his previous cup of coffee BAs were.080, .000, and .000. He was having a career year. Exactly 0 WAR. I didn't realize he was another prodigious whiffer, 33 in 99 ABs.

Hopefully we'll get to see him with the Sox.

Too bad for LaMarre, but Cave looks like the best extra OF option we've seen in a while.

I'll always remember that one day he went 3-4. And that one week where people clamored for him to start more games. Much simpler times back then, when we thought the team could be good.

I'm honestly not sure why they ever went with LaMarre, once Buxton was out. The idea of either LaMarre or Grossman starting in the outfield every day was never tenable. Cave should have been up right away, he was already on the 40-man roster and had ample AAA experience.

He was a poor man's Jason Repko.

Sounds like the opening to a very fine blues lyric.

"He was a poor man's Jason Repko,

Couldn't hit, to save his life.

I said he was a poor man's Jason Repko.

Couldn't hit, to save his life.

So I tried to send him down to Rochester,

To save my manager a little bit of strife..."

OK, maybe not so very fine.

Cave really started slow in Rochester.... April 14th, .222 (first Buxton DL?) end of April, .188, but the end of May, the second Buxton DL, he had heated up and was at .274 for the year. He maintained there through June until his call up. Looks like he is good and ready now to be in the lineup instead of on the bench tonight.

Buxton first went on the DL on April 18. Up to that point, Cave had only played 8 games in Rochester. He wasn't lighting the world on fire, but he had reached base 13 times in those 8 games, 7 hits including a HR and a double. He certainly wasn't slumping enough to make me want to see LaMarre or Grossman starting in the outfield every day.

He will go down with a mighty list of players we never remember like Danny Ardoin, Oswaldo Arcia, Billy Beane, and Peter Cimono.  Every team has a lot of them - Here is a list of all who have played for this franchise - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Twins_all-time_roster   Baseball goes through a lot of players and in reality has missed on some really good ones who did not fit a system, a team, or a manager.  So I wish LaMarre and all the rest a lot of luck.  LaMarre headlines our list of this years acquisitions (batters only) - both major league and minor league - how many will we remember in five years?

Ryan LaMarre

Kemmer

Bobby Wilson

Jake Cave

Taylor Motter

Erick Rivera

Austin Hale

Gabe Snyder
Tyler Webb

Willie Joe Garry, Jr

Erick Aybar

Brock Stassi

Chris Heisey

And Matt B. while they're at it.

I agree, why waste a roster spot on this guy? And, we could have kept LaMarre on the 40 man. Not that I expect anything great from him, but this just seams like poor roster management.  It made the White Sox better.
