For cash or a PTBNL.

This could be worse than the Delmon Young trade.

Guess 30 HR power from a young player does have a price.... About $150,000

Oh well. Would have been nice to get more from him but he is awful in the field and there just isn't enough room on the roster for him.

Hey, if you want to bitch about losing a guy who has a .236/.307/.373 85 OPS+, -1WAR line in the majors over the last two years (and a .629 OPS in AAA) and not getting enough in return for him, this is the place.  We can 10 pages out of this, easy.

But, best of luck to him.

let's see.  If we remove everyone from the field who is awful...

Well the way the pitching staff is currently constructed the team can't afford to put players in the outfield who are terrible. Plus it's not like he's done anything over the last two seasons to warrant more playing time.  I partially blame Molitor on that one because it would have been nice to use him and Park vs the splits but it didn't happen.

Also, he's really the only position player on the team that is truly bad at fielding.

And yet a guy with worse numbers and even less upside is still on the 25 man roster....(Santana)

This is a terrible move for a rebuilding team to make, no doubt about it.

our defense is the 2nd worst in baseball and that's with Arcia barely playing. So again, if we remove everyone who is terrible defensively, we won't come close to fielding a team.  TR, and our minor league development team have abandoned defense as a measure for MLB players.

And our pitching is constructed the way it's been constructed for 20+ years.

Good luck to Arcia. I've hashed out all of the Arcia non-sense on the other thread. No need to continue beating this horse.

Yeah, I hope he does very well.  I like him as a player.

.... we would be left with Mauer who has really improved now, Buxton most likely, Escobar and Dozier on their good days, and Sano as long as he's playing third base. :) And no corner outfielders would be left.

Part of the reason we're ranked so low is because players are playing out of position (Sano) and there are a lot of rookies on the team.

So, once you move Sano back to his regular position, Buxton and Kepler get more regular reps the defense should pick up.

See, I view this as a necessary part of the rebuild. We have been beyond terrible at cutting losses and moving on from failed prospects. If it means we're making a hard decision to go with kep ros bux and gross, then this is a positive step. Good luck to ozzie, one of my favorites despite his recent struggles. Hopefully there is more decisive trimming to come.

Ummm...are we talking about the same team that intentionally moved Miguel Sano to the OF this Winter?

Which one? :)

Actually it would have been nice to get something like Lester Oliveros circa 2011 for Arcia...

Selling on Arcia after 2014 might have been advisable, given how quickly we decided to start benching him in 2015 in favor of Hunter, Robinson, Schafer, various infielders, etc. It would have been an aggressive move, to be sure, but I think it might be better to make an aggressive move every once and a while rather than waiting on every single one of our assets...

We'd also have nobody catching the pitches.

Not sold on Sano at 3B, myself.  Escobar is below average.  Dzoier has dropped off.  I'm fine with Kepler in the OF.

Tampa is short on outfielders at the present time. They should be able to give Arcia a couple of month look.  We will see at that time how this is.

Good luck to him.

they need a DH badly.  They could just put him there.

As I wrote in far too many words 8 days ago or so I'm fully comfortable with this. Hopefully they can get a player rather than cash.

I believe that if he gets playing time, just against righties and ideally just DH, he can be OK... But I'm fully comfortable with him not being here. I want Buxton and Kepler to get at bats at this point. Grossman is just a year older and probably going to be more steady also a better option as a 4th OF than Arcia. Rosario will be back soon.

I hope Arcia does well too.

They say Kepler might be ok but it will take me a while to get that image out of my head of him overrunning that shallow fly.

Arcia kind of reminds me of Delmon Young, an young outfielder who can't play in the outfield.  Someone who you thought could hit until you actually saw him swing a bat.

Agree. Something. It seems like Tampa Bay was pretty early in the waiver line so I bet there were several teams willing to make a deal for Arcia this week, to say nothing of his possible value as part of an offseason trade.

There was no point in Arcia staying in the organization. But I certainly think his natural ability has been squandered the past couple years, through some combination of Arcia himself and the Twins organization. His struggles certainly fits into a troublesome pattern for the club, which logically we can only expect to continue indefinitely.

Even so, between his non-existent defensive value, and clear vulnerabilities at the plate, he doesn't fit the mold of the more egregious failures by the Twins to retain their own talent (e.g., Ramos, Liriano, etc.).

... and Kepler's adventure on that easy pop fly he over ran in right field against the Yankees didn't even get him a 2 base error! The fielding stats could/should be even worse without the official scoring mystery.
