  1. Nice call! Fun game! Jorge Polanco taking a pay cut to stay in Seattle. Good for him.
  2. I feel ya. How about this guy? https://www.milb.com/wichita/video/twins-no-4-prospect-kaelen-culpepper-s-10th-home-run
  3. I remember thinking AK and Larnach were duplicative and that one should be traded. AK's all-field unicorn swing probably contributed to his wrist issues. Catching the ball out front just "hurts" less and is a much more reliable path to success. It feels like we should have known and traded AK. Now what to do with Royce and Jenkins... Big time gambles to trade OR keep. Being a GM is hard.
  4. Anyone in Seattle going to the game today?
  5. I thought Paddock looked outstanding out of the pen a couple years ago. He's a strike thrower with no pitch mix to speak of? To have a fireman that can come in and not walk guys is big. He's worked so hard to get back into the rotation. Gotta respect that. But... I just wonder if he'd be more effective and healthier as a set-up guy.
  6. Winning fixes almost all club house issues. But leadership and chemistry definitely matter. Baseball players are people. Fun equals energy. Energy equals effort. Effort equals performance. There's hundreds of studies on workplace moral and burnout on productivity. The team gave up a little when we didn't bring back our stopper and rotation leader. They gave up even more when they running out of gas and added nothing at the deadline. Our moldy old summer sausage eventually got... old and moldy.
  7. If Duran wants to start, he's earned that opportunity in my opinion. Starters can make so much more money. 10 innings is more than 3 innings. A run in the first inning is worth the same as a run scored in the 9th. The more your best players play, the better.
  8. Pass a physical and bring an average return in trade. Twins are shredding payroll. Buxton is reasonably priced if he can show a team he's healthy-ish.
  9. Personally, I think Pagan has worth that goes beyond pitching. He's shown incredible resilience and willingness to compete. I think he's a great influence for a young pen. You can't always control results. That's magnified in a relief role. His mentality is sound and even keeled. I'd love to have him back.
  10. Saw a stat where Castro had 60+ chances at third this year without an error. He then made a stellar play at short. And he might be better in the outfield. His speed and energy changes the game. His hit tool is underrated. Some pop and cerebral approach at the plate. Adjusts in the at bat with patience. Closest approach we have to Arraez but without his contact tool.
  11. Is Buxton not allowed in the dugout without a roster spot? Also, didn't Lewis hurt himself at the plate somehow? Never seen a hammy go on a swing. Not a great sign. I'd leave Buck off and trust the other guys to advance and get him a chance later this fall. Win this series for Buck!
  12. I guess I view both as eventually first basemen. Wallner is slightly more natural out there, but he seems stretched range wise already...
  13. Here's how I rank the infield currently: Correa Lewis Polanco Farmer Kiriloff Brooks Lee Solano Miranda Gordon Wallner Julien Larnach Martin Gallo Big disappoints are Larnach and Miranda. Correa is reminding me of the Mauer contract already.... I think we need Polanco, honestly. The young guys are interchangeable and not sure to be better than Farmer, Gordon or Solano.
  14. So LaMonte Wade is a .384 on base percentage guy now? Top 10 in the NL?
  15. Am I the only one who thought the MVP version of Buxton was probably a mirage to begin with? Like the injuries obviously impacted his play, but also saved him from the prolonged slumps hallmarking his career when healthy. I'm a pessimist I guess. I thought the same thing with Kepler and Miranda who were ok hitters who suddenly got good. Same with Rolls Royce who wasn't even the hitter Kep and Miranda were. Buxton's contact is favorable when he's good. What would another team give for him at this point? Not saying to trade him, but it's clear we need a center fielder. We need relievers. I'd rather keep Brooks Lee and trade Buxton or Royce for a pile of prospects and shot to make this first place team better.
  16. I like Lewis, but he isn't that great of an MLB player. Probably won't be. Never an elite hitter. Can't play center or SS any more. His chances of being a bust are greater than him being a star, imo. Miranda has at least been the best hitter (sort of out of nowhere) in our farm system before. And even he snuck up on people. Trading guys who can play for questionable return, then keeping guys with higher trade value who can't play is a recipe for getting worse.
  17. First of all, are starters more likely to get injured than relievers? Yes. 2.4x more likely. BUT... no more likely to injure their elbows. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35040985/ My prediction is that Duran will need TJ or thoracic outlet release this season regardless of role because Twins.
  18. His development reminds me of Jorge Polanco and Kepler in that he developed power after scouts had essentially given up on them developing power. From an eye-test perspective he looks like he fits. He never appears intimidated and stays aggressive at the plate. Tries to do damage. His eye may need improvement, but the development of power is a major game changer for the guy. Defensive flexibility. Really good defensive outfielder. Huge pedigree. Excuses for slow development (illness not injury).... He's a sneaky one.
  19. Never give up on a prospect until you try them in the bull pen. Focus on max effort and top 2 pitches.
  20. I didn't realize all those guys were 2019. That's ridiculous. Especially with Cavaco looking like a miss.
  21. Pagan: a true 3 outcome pitcher. It's like watching little league. Walk. K. Walk walk. K. Homer. His problem is he can't throw strikes. The whiff rate is because he can't throw strikes. He can't throw strikes because his stuff isn't good enough. That said why is Rocco allergic to using Duran as closer? Hasn't he earned it?
  22. Not glowing report from Marlins' writer, but fast risers are sometimes hard to gauge when unconventional. Luis Arraez was barely a prospect, but our front office loved him. Scouts then adjust to make it look like they knew all along. If Nardi continues to move up, the scouts will reference impeccable feel or deceptive delivery to explain why his success was inevitable.
  23. I've long said that some teams use the additional years as a way of financing. Player salaries keep going up. Insurance covers risks of injuries.
