twinstalker Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Just wondering who goes when Stewart, Alcala, and Paddack come off the 60-day IL. glunn 1
twins_89 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Gallo and Luplow are the obvious choices to get bumped from the 40-man roster. If a third spot is needed one of Floro/Keuchal seem likely to be next in line to go. Doctor Gast, glunn, Fatbat and 1 other 3 1
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Floro and Gallo should go first. After that, I'd guess Celestino is on the chopping block as I doubt he will be on the 40 man this winter. Though they may only need 2 spots as I don't know if Alcala is going to return to the major league team. LA Vikes Fan, TopGunn#22, Dman and 2 others 5
Morland Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Floro & Luplow. Neither have done much. RpR and TopGunn#22 1 1

Fatbat Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Anyone that is going to be on the post season roster is already on the 40 man so this must be a question of who goes after the season? Obviously Gallo, Mahle wont be under contract and will the twins bring back Polanco or Kepler? Then you have guys like Oliver Ortega, Luplow, Stevenson. We got a lot of younger guys to protect from rule 5. glunn 1
Linus Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 It won’t be a problem at all.

No way Celestino gets DFA’d. my guess Floro, Gallo, Stevenson edit to add, agreed that Alcala might get optioned and Stevenson would not get optioned/DFA’d glunn, Doctor Gast and RpR 2 1

DJL44 Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Obvious candidates are free agents who won't be on the postseason roster. Keuchel, Floro and Gallo. I would expect them to cut Luplow loose as well. RpR, Fatbat, rwilfong86 and 1 other 3 1

Rosterman Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 For the playoffs, Stevenson, Floro and Luplow are definitely on the bubble. None are considered prospects. Stevenson could be resigned to a minor league contract. Keuchel could also be removed. The Twins potentially need to add Paddack, Stewart, Gordon to the 40-man. They might need to add Alcala. They also may have to add back Buxton, Gallo. Departing free agents include Gray, Maeda, Pagan, Mahle, Solano, Taylor, DeLeon. They need to make decisions on Kepler and Polanco. Also, Thielbar will be in his final arbitration year. Celestino will need to be kept on the roster coming out of spring tainging (and he is still young, folks). On the bubble could be Alcala, Sands, Moran, WInder, Miranda, Castro, Larnach, Ortega. Bu the Twins don't need to be in a rush on any of them. You need to keep some guys around in case you sign a free agent. Names like Balazovic, Woods-Richardson, Henriquez are still young and promising. They need to add: Camargo, who they resigned as a young minor league free agent who finished his 7th minor league season. They need to keep Severino, too. Chris Williams and Blayne Enlow could also become minor league free agents. Martin, Keirsey, Prato also need to be kept, it seems. They could add names like Heilman or Bechtold, and there are a number of bullpen arms, but most could be replaced by other minor league free agent contracts. But, yes, the Twins have to make a 40-man roster move (and also corresponding 28-man (down to 26 for the playoffs) when Paddack, Stewart, Gordon and Alcala are added back into the mix. Fatbat 1
stringer bell Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Paddack will probably be activated today and a move will have to be made for him. Same for Stewart, So two moves off the 40-man today. Gordon's 20-day rehab will be over on October 5, Alcalá's on October 8, so if the Twins are still playing then, two additional subtractions would have to be made to make room for them. In a previous thread someone predicted that Jovani Moran would be recalled and placed on the 60-day IL to make a space. If the Twins can do that, I'm sure they will. Otherwise, it is veterans like Keuchel, Floro, Gallo or Luplow or fringe roster guys like Celestino, Sands and Winder. FlyingFinn, ToddlerHarmon and DJL44 3

He does not have much value on the open market at this point and the FO may want to save face on the high amount we gave up for him. If that occurs, then he needs to be on the 40-man at some point. Which is why they won't do something like that until their season is over. Fatbat 1

umterp23 Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Why the infatuation with Gordon guaranteed a 40 man spot. Broken leg, didn't do much before injury and hasn't done anything worth worrying about for coming off the IL... If One year wonder so to speak in '22 season. If he gets picked up off waivers than good for him as right now he doesn't have a clear path to the OF/IF utility role. Oldgoat_MN, RpR, mrtwinsfan and 2 others 5

Maybe Gallo, just so they don’t have to DFA him, but that’s kind of a stretch stringer bell and Fatbat 2

Nah the reason is there is really no reason to DFA him And you respect a good clubhouse guy that produced in April when a lot of other guys didnt and helped us stay afloat. DFA'ing him doesnt save money and it doesnt help the player since he cant go anywhere else. No he sits on IL and is a back up if a worst case scenario happens Mike Sixel, wabene, FlyingFinn and 1 other 4
