They definitely hit on that trade. But I think if you peel back the layers...they traded Cruz who was at the end of the line. That's the classic deadline deal. Trade the old head for a lottery ticket. Paid off in spades. When you're trading guys with team control remaining when they're in the prime of their career, you better hit it big on the return or your franchise is set back for several years.

And honestly, for Rojas to make the Lou trade even barely acceptable, he'll have to hit a level he might not be capable of. Not his fault but the reality of a really, really stupid trade.

When you have a deadline fire sale, more often than not, you're getting lottery tickets in return. Very few prospects are can't miss. Abel. Tait. Rojas. Jury is and will remain out on those guys for a while. I never saw Roden having a super high ceiling. He's a fourth outfielder on a contending team.

Yup. At least with this year, I didn't expect much. Slivers of hope when they were playing well in early July through the ASB but too many holes from top to bottom. Some good to great performances. Shelton. Ryan. Bradley. Lee. Buck. Larnach. Jeffers. Bell. Clemens. Gomez. Morris. A few others I probably forgot.

They're probably closer to a 70 win team than they are a .500 team. Shelton's done well. Several position players exceeded expectations. Ryan and Bradley have been great at times. It's just hard to stay above water for 162 games. Eventually you regress to the mean. Hopefully it's not happening here, but it likely is.
