Difficult to get into the mood for Baseball…

Opening day is right around the corner, and I should be giddy with excitement! For those living in Minnesota, you know the struggle. We haven’t seen the first sign of spring yet. The last day it was 50+ degrees in Minnesota was November 26. Supposedly we’re getting 2 more slushy inches of snow on Friday.

Baseball is synonymous with warm weather… Green grass, birds chirping, sunshine, and the occasional @Squirrelrunning onto the field.

So help me help you… What gets you in the mood for baseball when sunny 80 degree days are still a few weeks away?

The same thing that gets me through every Minnesota winter at this stage of my life - faith that God will change the seasons and finally bless us with warm weather. Those blessings will come in His time and we must be patient.

A weather report from SE Minnesota. It has been above freezing every day and the considerable snow pack has been diminished a lot. Yeah, it’s been a long winter, but things are proceeding.

Personally, I’ve been cooped up more than any time in my life. Watching the Twins play this past week has been a good diversion. The weather will turn eventually.

Robins. They have arrived in huge numbers. Spring is coming! Baseball is days away!!!

There’s a lot of loons and Canadian geese back in MN now after flying south for the winter. I’m sure they’re wishing they spent a couple more weeks down south.

Let’s hope the weather is turning now! I’m tired of wearing my full winter gear taking my dog out for a walk in the morning.

The day when I get home from work and the sun is still up

The sun being up until 7 PM has been a great change of pace lately. Just wish it wasn’t 20 degrees below normal temps for this time of year!

You moved there by choice!

Very true. Judging by the forecast in Portland it’s not baseball weather over there either!

Those days of going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark are brutal!

For me, it's actually watching more golf on TV, and sometimes actually getting away and on the course, that gets me going for spring and baseball.

Way worse than normal this year for sure. I did play Chambers Bay yesterday, in no rain. And league tomorrow should be dry....

I do agree, it doesn't feel like baseball yet.

Hey, don’t blame me. You asked.

Will it say opening day on March 30 is a fitting occasion for baseball?

Any day is a fitting occasion for baseball. Unless it’s raining (or snowing, or sleeting, or a scheduled off-day for Buxton and Correa simultaneously).

The ice won't be off the lakes until May, so instead of listening to the games on the radio I'll need to watch the games on the tv with the heat cranked. March has almost passed without a single day where it was above freezing for the entire day and tonight it goes below zero. In times like this it is even more important to watch baseball and see that there is unfrozen ground somewhere. One thing I must admit - the inch plus of snow today sure was beautiful as it fell so gently. It only took an hour to shovel the walks and driveway too because it was so light, fluffy, and sparklingly clean.

This is the most romanticized caption about late March snow I’ve read.

Because of your answer, you get the ultimate 7th inning stretch song.

And telling enough, it's the slowest start to goose migration since I started doing bird surveys about a decade ago. Hard to believe it's baseball season. But... spring is coming! Just look at this satellite image from today of the snow cover in Minnesota https://zoom.earth/maps/daily/#view=46.61,-96.71,6z/date=2023-03-28,pm

I'm just excited because my foster daughter and my wife are showing more interest in baseball than they have in previous years! Both are excited to go to the Saints home opener, wife is asking me all sorts of questions about the roster this year, teenage foster daughter sincerely shouted "Yay!" when I mentioned the season was about to start. Baby girl is old enough to be aware of what's going on around her and enjoy the crowd.

I live in Indiana, but I’m FROM Iowa. Normally, my sign that we’re approaching spring is that I’m choosing exhibition Baseball over the NCAA tournament.

This year has been different, however. Caitlin Clark Mania has hit HARD in our household, to the point that it’s still not fully registering that tomorrow is Opening Day.

They just put the tennis nets up here (Red Wing, MN) yesterday and the group I play with is meeting to play this afternoon.  Even though it's in the 30s, we just need to get outside and move around (other than cleaning up the yard.)   Bundling up for a baseball game is not my favorite thing to do, but that being said, my yearning to get back to Target Field and see baseball in person is strong, and will probably put me back in the seats April 8.

No doubt the weather in Mn most years isn't the greatest. Sure, eventually it'll warm up, but it seems like it takes forever to do it. When the SB is done, I'm ready for MLB, and once ST starts, it really gets me thinking baseball. I've had my fantasy teams set for over a month now too. April is baseball and The Masters. That's all good!

I've had enough. I don't like being the Winter complainer because I've lived in winter land almost my entire life but... enough is enough. The melt should have begun by now.

Frosty should be worried not partying.

This is the year where it’s okay to complain about winter… The total snowfall we’ve seen is the 8th highest on record! It will be the first time since 2011 where we don’t see a temperature starting with the number 5.

What’s next isn’t too much better. 3-4 weeks of mud that my dog loves to step in. I will welcome that stage with open arms at this point in time!
