Difficult to get into the mood for Baseball…

Back to the weather. Our SE Minnesota forecast for tomorrow and Saturday has been modified to include a Winter Storm watch with blowing and drifting snow. 3-6” of snow with strong winds. My earlier optimism about spring being around the corner has taken a hit.

Robins. They have arrived in huge numbers. Spring is coming! Baseball is days away!!!

We now have some hearty robins that spent the winter here. 60° north latitide.

I watched one sing yesterday from the top of our largest spruce tree. It was  snowing.

I don’t understand the complaints about watching baseball in 40 degree weather.  It’s not like a January Vikings game below zero at the Old Met.  We can dress for 40 degrees, and our toes stay warm.  Would you really rather see an August day game at 95 degrees and 90% humidity crammed in with 30,000 other sweaty fans?   Don’t be a weather wimp!    Dress for the cold and enjoy a great Spring Day for baseball

I get the weather is not a great thing in Minnesota as Snow this weekend.  However, yesterday had me watching 9 hours of baseball yesterday and I couldn't be happier.  There is nothing like opening day.  every team believes they are going to be a playoff team and for a couple weeks they believe that.  Another fun part for me is seeing the new players on different teams.  From Jacob DeGrom getting drilled with the Rangers, to all the different players on the Padres seeing Danby Swanson with the Cubs.  That is so much fun for me as I just can't get into baseball during spring training, although I got into the WBC this year.  I was excited to see the Pitch Clock and how it would work, the two infielders on each sides rule and how players would push the rule to the limit.  I get it their is 162 games, but their is something poetic about Opening Day and really how it makes you feel like your a kid again.  I get the pessimistic view because of the weather, but thats the way every year, but to me the positive of opening day far outweighs the negative.  That is just my view and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I have a new hat, I have a new jersey ... I'm ready! 🙂

Yeah, okay, shoes, too ... do you want the link?

Actually, yes please! My only Twins branded shoes are flimsy canvas cuties not suitable for outdoor baseball in April.

Twins are fortunate they are not opening at home this year! Here, we are not in a Winter Storm Warning with probable accumulation of 3-6". With the new balanced schedule, the Twins would be well-advised to schedule teams that make two visits to Minneapolis because making up games would be difficult when the teams only visit once. Last year, in April, the Twins played the Dodgers in a cold rainstorm and the next day was 35 degrees and windy (I was there). I would imagine that one or both of those games would have been postponed if there were dates where the Dodgers could make the games up.

It's not going to be warmer on Thursday. The current forecast high is 31ºF. I suppose the opener could be moved to Friday when the high is currently forecast to be 41ºF. We'll see.

From the forecast, it would make sense to wait until Friday. The storm that is upon us wasn’t in any forecast until a couple days ago. That the accumulation will occur in April just irritates me more. I’m actually not ready to play golf physically means it shouldn’t matter, but I’ve watched enough snow this winter.

First, over half the teams in MLB can experience bad early-season weather. Second, bad early-season weather can occur well into May so the first 6 weeks of the schedule would need to be considered. Third, with the new balanced schedule only division opponents visit more than once. With these constraints it's simply impossible to accommodate every team in this way.
