  1. How many leads and games have been blown by this bullpen? Feels like a whole lot.
  2. It’s gone from my screen in tonight’s game summary - thank you!!
  3. Hello? TD admins?? Persistent problem. So, recently on my iPad, there are windows showing ads and another showing a podcast (the Show, I believe) that cover up about a third of the text of one or more paragraphs on the right hand side of Twins Daily articles. i can’t seem to close or move these blocking windows. Any suggestions? Also, I thought we Caretakers were supposed to be free of ads.
  4. Sherry, this line of yours sums up a sad performance so well: “the defense was unable to make plays, and the offense was unable to create runs.” I was at Target Field, and it was one of my more depressing days there. The air quality was poor, the sun was hot, the team was tepid and just plain embarrassing. Highlight: I snagged a deeply discounted ticket to the Thrivent Club, so I was able to escape to air conditioned avoidance of the carnage. And even better, I was two tables away from Mr. Tony Oliva and wife. I didn’t want to bother them for a selfie, but did take a pic of one of the displays honoring Number 6.
  5. Interesting point. I think both are exciting when watching live - especially so in person. I agree though that stealing home is even better. I wonder whether the video available shows enough of the angles - Wallner taking off, then getting in a rundown on purpose, Lewis edging down the line, then dashing home. Personally, I go to MLB.com for game videos. And as I e complained about for years, this site (almost?) never bothers to provide captions for lead photos.
  6. Such an excellent game summary, Sherry - thank you! When Matt Waller and Ryan “Jeff” Jeffers star on the basepaths, let’s let that soak in for a bit. These boys want to play and win! Correa is on a tear recently, mostly singles, some doubles - and clutch!
  7. Looking through those old family photos - no luck finding any Vanimal. But what the heck, long lost nephews are well worth a ticket. Are you buying the popcorn?
  8. One of the cool things about sitting so close was watching Twins players returning to the dugout when the top of the inning ended. Players’ expressions and body language were so interesting. Carlos Correa always seemed to study the crowd as he approached the dugout. But my favorite Correa moment (other than his two hits) was how he greeted Willi Castro after that amazing sliding catch along the right field foul line to end the Cubs’ sixth inning. What a moment between two teammates that was.
  9. I was at Target Field last night and surrounded by Cubs fans. Splurged for this one and sat right behind the Twins dugout. SWR being pulled after five was both disappointing and understandable. Giving up walks is I think his biggest issue. Cubs fans were pretty hopeful in the top of the 8th when Jax let the first two batters on, but then quieted down when the next three made outs. But that bottom of the 8th was so electric! I haven’t had so much fun at a Twins game all year!
  10. Enjoyed this a lot, Matt - thanks! Whatever his future, it is interesting to watch his process in this game and at-bat.
  11. I may need eyeglasses to see at all clearly, but the Ty France I see on my tablet watching Twins games is well worth keeping around. His defense has been solid, and his hitting in key situations is quite a bit above his usual average. I wouldn't rely on the paper stats to look for a replacement. Third base -- another situation altogether. Maybe when Keaschall is back, he and Lee can trade off 2nd and 3d? With Willi at 2nd some of the time, too?
  12. Thought I might be dreaming when I looked at my phone at 5:00 this morning Minnesota time and saw the score. The headline suggested to my sleepy eyes that somehow our guys had come back from a deficit, down to their last out in the ninth, to win, and win big! Enjoyed watching the whole game through on my tablet. When Zebby gave up four in the first I would have thought it was over if I were watching live. But what a game nearly all round! Larnach, Castro, France, Correa, Jeffers, Buxton, Lee … Matthews gets squeezed by umps all the time, but he persisted with a gritty performance through seven. Sands looking more and more shaky, but Jhoan and Brock locked it down. Twins TV streaming with the ability to watch complete games live or later has been a real boon this year.
  13. My impression is that Castro’s arm isn’t nearly the caliber of (pick ‘em) Buxton, Bader, Kiersy, Wallner, maybe even Larnach. His multiple ailments might also be a factor.
  14. It’s a weird but welcome change from how the season has gone till this past week — when things get hairy I was conditioned to expecting the Twins to find a way to eke out a loss. Now I have the feeling that they might probably find a way to win. I like it.
  15. I agree that Lee fits best at 2B, given the overall lineup, while he's also our best option to spell Correa at SS when needed.
  16. Very helpful explanation! As you say, WPA basically measures performance in the clutch. Bader and Lee for sure in Thursday's game. I think we see a lot of interest in WPA because it's one of the "newer" stats we see mentioned. Gleeman talks about it a lot. On the other hand, the guy behind me at Target Field yesterday asked his companion "What is OPS??"
  17. I was at the game (my first in person this year). Sign of the times that I could snag a seat in row 11 of Box 6 for $33 (plus taxes and fees, of course). So fun to be close to our heroes in person! Three dimensions a lot better than looking at a screen. As stated in the article, the Orioles had runners in scoring position seemingly in all five of Ober's innings. A sharp double play saved two runs at one point. Byron throwing a runner out at the plate was also crucial -- and it looked to us that he could easily have been called safe. Ty France kept up his hitting prowess, and Larnach's home run was so important to morale in the stands. Buxton and Bader look fantastic. Carlos looked lost at the plate but gunned several runners down. His arm has not lost a bit of speed and precision. Brooks Lee looked a bit unreliable a few times at second base (only one misplay was named an error) and struck out his first three times at bat (we could hear his "f*ck" clearly as he returned to the dugout after number three), so it was great to have him drive in those late runs to secure the game. It's amazing how quickly the TD writers post these stories! As a former copyeditor may I suggest two tiny corrections to the article - Ober allowed just one earned run (the other followed Lee's error) and Larnach's homer was in the bottom of the sixth. Go Twins!
  18. Stewart and Jax have been a bit scary to watch, but let's hope they work out the kinks, if any. Bader and Arráez are two totally different players. Luis has negative defensive value, and not much power. But he is a master at slapping out line-drive singles. Great set-up man. Harrison has saved a few games already, using my eye test anyway, with his instincts and quickness reaching any ball hit his way. He's elite in center field, always a plus for the Twins even when Buxton is playing at this amazing level. And Bader seems to have that undefinable knack of occasionally hitting the big HR at a key time. And - not unimportant - he is so fun to watch! Not just for us gals, either, with his swagger. Willi earns his spot by his ability to move around the ball field as needed (infield and corner outfield) and is an asset on the bases, too.
  19. I agree that either or both might be good trade bait - much better than the silly notion floated on the Athletic by Jim Bowden that the Twins trade Joe Ryan to the Orioles for similarly unpromising players - and who have less successful track records, too.
