  1. As for Correa’s feet — I’ve heard that plantar fasciitis can return without much warning, so let’s hope that Carlos can avoid relapsing over the next few seasons. His defense in the playoffs this past October was out of this world.
  2. Polanco was such an important part of this team for a good stretch, and I will always be a fan. But with our abundance of infielders and Jorge’s litany of injuries in recent years, I think it was time to see what a trade could bring. Adding an end-of-rotation starter and a solid setup reliever to the major league roster - plus an intriguing outfield bat-first prospect - seems like a good return.
  3. I wonder also whether the grind of a long season started to have an effect. We see this pattern mentioned quite a bit for players as they move from college to the minors to the majors.
  4. Clarification, please - signing period opens on January 15th, but Twins have already “snagged” De los Santos and Beltran?? Does this mean they have made advance arrangements? Or are these two the players you predict they will sign?
  5. I only catch the Twins on the radio when I’m driving In my car. This often means I don’t know where we are in the game. Provus is excellent, in my opinion, though switching to television should mean he can scale back his descriptions and add more analysis. but he always tells the audience what inning we’re in, how many men on base, who’s at bat, and so on. When Gladden has the mic, so many times none of that info is mentioned till way into the inning. So often when a ball is put in play, Danny says “wow, that was hit hard,” or the like. Hit where, Danny? Did it make an out? Maybe ,.. I know he’s a favorite of many Twins fans, based in part it seems on his World Series, but he is so erratic. Quite often Dan refers to replays … that the radio audience doesn’t see. He offers color commentary on the TV picture. I quite like Morneau and Perkins and Plouffe. Smalley and Hawkins need a game or two each time to get into rhythm. Roy hems and haws at fIrst, but his observations about fielding in particular are insightful. Too often LaTroy simply echoes whatever Dick has just said,
  6. Excellent article, Cody! I’ve always been dumbfounded by the “fans” who denigrated Mauer- he didn’t hit home runs, he switched to first base, he wasn’t rah-rah enough, etc. Why not notice and celebrate the amazing things he did?
  7. I agree with Jocko about the Buxton move. Yes, unlikely to change the outcome (which seemed less and less likely to be a win, whichever CF batted). But it brought me and my family such joy to have Buck given a chance and a plate appearance after all he (and we) have gone through. I thought it was classy and gave fans who care about the players a real lift. So much fun this year, so much hope for the future!
  8. Same here. Cheered my heart out to the deflating end. Twins are my team, win or lose.
  9. It was so much fun watching this game from my couch. Lovely to see clutch performances from our boys Farmer and Solano and Polanco alongside the headliners López and Correa. The home base ump had a bizarre strike zone - so unpredictable even if you ignored the box on the TV screen. Glad Pablo kept his cool and mastered it. Correa’s performance is great to see! And yet what his teammates say about his leadership and example off the field is truly impressive. Go read Dan Hayes’s article this morning in The Athletic for some excellent quotes from the players. I’ll be back in Section 108 for Game 3 tomorrow. How happy can a gal be that her family went for the Flex 20 ticket plan this season! Various friends and family got to attend a game or two, and primed us to want to be part of the home crowd for these postseason games. Go Twins!!
  10. Looks like they were in the Delta Sky 360 club. Spent one game there with the family this season. Very nice views, food and drink service at your seat, comfy.
  11. Attending the game today felt different somehow. Just as tense at times, and without some stellar defense we likely don’t win. So that’s simply fantastic. Still - yesterday the wonder was whether we could win even one game. With that first game under our belt, the only question in my mind was - do we do it today or wait till tomorrow? It was quite a shock to see Berríos pulled so early, even though the Blue Jays had telegraphed that move. I understood switching out Solano for Kiriloff and Farmer for Julien, thus moving Polanco to his better fielding position. But I didn’t like Wallner being yanked so early both games - today Willi hit the run-scoring double play, and I have to believe Matt could hardly have done less well.
  12. Commentators on mlb.com and The Athletic all said that Bichette blew past the 3B coach’s sign.
  13. We were at the game today, and the crowd was electric from the start. It was exceptionally loud and on our feet and finally so very festive. We’re over the moon that we were able to take my 80-year old disabled veteran father-in-law out to the game from the VA rehab ward in his wheelchair. Folks were high-fiving him as they came up the stairs to join the throng on the concourse. Actually, words fail me in trying to convey the atmosphere. Such hope and excitement turning to wonder and joy. People were dancing in their seats, they were singing out on the plaza, and leaping with nearly ecstatic enthusiasm down the streets. On to tomorrow! Go Twins!!
  14. Some good signs in this last week: Good to see Paddack and Stewart out there! Jax is looking sharper these days, too. Julien continues his phenomenal walk-friendly approach. Kiriloff may have his wrist healthy again! And Wallner is settling in so well. Go Twins!!
  15. We were at the game today, and it was so fun! I’m glad we didn’t have “fringe players” instead of (mostly) regulars. Save that for that final series in Denver next weekend! Joe Ryan looked sharp. His fielders let him down - Polanco snagged a sharp grounder down the line in the 3rd, but his throw to second hit the dirt ten feet or more away and we didn’t get the double play. Angels scored in the next at bat. The “double” he gave up the next time (5th inning, I think) should have been caught by Larnach, or so it looked from row 21 in section 108, and then for some reason Trevor threw to third and let the batter reach second - leading to another “earned” run charged to Joe. Still, Jorge otherwise looked pretty good at that unfamiliar position. I wonder if we’re getting a preview of the playoff lineup? Trevor seemed not quite up to snuff, so let’s hope he finds something.
  16. Twins broadcast the last five minutes of the Vikings game on the giant scoreboard during the rain delay here, just a few blocks away. Let’s hope this MN team fares better as the game resumes! With the delay I doubt Ryan comes out for the 7th.
  17. We’re here in Section 108! Beautiful day.
  18. Getting in late to this conversation! Like all of us, watching Luis perform at the plate was such fun. But - like many of us - I liked the trade from the start. This past Sunday the 10th I was at Target Field to witness Pablo López pitch eight shutout innings with fourteen strikeouts. It was one of the most - perhaps the very most - dominant pitching performance I’ve witnessed in person in my 70 years. True, the Twins bats were silent and we lost the game 2-0. But watching Pablo was just wonderful. Luis is fun, to be sure, but give me this front line pitching any day.
  19. Great opening sentence, Matt! And thanks, too for the intro tribute to Clemente. It’s gotten to the point that I kinda expect Royce to hit a homer when he comes up with the bases loaded - and a few times now, I’ve been proved right! (However, I believe today is Friday, not Saturday? 🤣)
  20. Willi Castro!! He’s been such a force since his return from the injured list. Might be my team MVP. Such a clutch player.
  21. I was at this game on Sunday, and watching Pablo López pitch was so amazing. Even made the poor batting bearable. It’s the sight of such a dominating performance from the mound that thrills a true fan. The expressions on the faces of his many strikeout victims were priceless. I have to agree about the visual overload and the extremely loud and intrusive music and other noise. It is the only part of attending games in person this year that I find so disagreeable. (Though exiting from the parking ramps after the game can also be a major pain.)
  22. I was at the game and was a bit disappointed not to see Lewis, Julien, Kepler, or Kiriloff take the field top of the first. Royce did bat as DH, of course, and the big hits came from Solano, Farmer, Castro, and Kepler. Another win for the Front Office’s depth moves. Another really fun game!
