  1. At the game - Section 321! Bird’s eye view
  2. This team is so much fun to watch! Going to Target Field both Saturday and Sunday with women friends as we celebrate the season (we hope not too soon!) and bask in the delights of winning September baseball.
  3. We were at the game, baking in the sun for two innings before retreating to the shade (see photo). Innings 2 and 9 were so fun offensively, but Kenta labored mightily from the start. Our four runs would have held up so often. As others will remark, our young players are providing most of the offense. The bottom of the ninth was exciting. Seven runs should have sealed the win! Captain Jax’s bad streak is alarming. Nothing seemed to be working for him today.
  4. Could you stick around a while longer, please? The team can clearly benefit from the good vibes of your presence!!
  5. Chiming in very late, here. Lots of talk in baseball publications that front-line pitching is crucial for play-off success; in our case, then the lineup has to heat up at the right time. Small nit - the Phillies are in the National League, not the AL East.
  6. We were gifted seats in the Sky Club to take my elderly Army veteran father in law. Dad is struggling with Parkinson’s and related ailments so this was an exceptional opportunity for us. Kept us out of that baking sun so we had the stamina to hold on to the amazing final innings. Kept hoping Buck or Eddie or Alex would bring the team home, and Alex did his best with his 2-out double to tie it up. FINALLY, when Ryan brushed off the foul tip to the throat to hit the winning knock, all was good. What a finish! Bailey Ober looked strong apart from the two solo home runs, and I must say Ortega and Pagán held the *** Sox in check. What a sweet sweep job this was!!
  7. Good to win when our young studs go hitless. But both Julien and Kiriloff nonetheless looked good at the plate, to my eye at least. And the less heralded hitters came through with just enough. Thought Vásquez’s hit off the top of the padding was a sure home run - another few inches and the lead was a lot safer. The intro shtick for Duran is a bit much, but wow is he electric to watch!
  8. A real nail biter! I missed the local announcers. Felt sure that Julien would get the big hit one of those times, but maybe he’s saving it up - Taking my father in law to tomorrow’s game - Ober vs. Giolito, let’s go Bailey, let’s go Twins!
  9. We were at the game tonight. Began with that uh-oh first pitch home run by Garcia, but then the boys came through with some clutch hits and fine defense. Michael A. Taylor and Max Kepler were especially adept. Scoring on a bunt single was delicious. Bottom of the eighth was FUN! Then Emilio made me sit down and close my eyes and truly wonder whether a five run lead would be enough. Sent us home with a fireworks show!
  10. We’re here in Section 107! by the way, I think today is July 3rd not 2nd 🤣
  11. We’re at the game! Section 108 Row 23. Go Twins! .
  12. The word was that with sixteen games in sixteen days this was a way to give the starters each a day off.
  13. I was at the game (up in Section 308 this time). Anything but boring! Moved along quickly, with some thrilling defense. Couldn’t see the Torkelson catch of the pop foul at the net, but those double plays were beautiful. The Castro - Correa - Jeffers tag out at the plate was amazing. Those extra outs kept Detroit off the board. Then Duran came in to his flame thrower theme and slammed the door. Boring?
  14. Makes me think of the song “Winchester Cathedral.” Some time ago while on a visit to England (August 1995, I think, since I remember the 50th V-J day being celebrated in London that trip) I think I passed through or nearby that beautiful city on a pilgrimage to see HMS Victory in Portsmouth. Stayed in a B&B on the hard.
  15. Thanks for the fun prose, Matt! Wasn’t able to watch the game live, but it sounds like Royce Lewis got two infield hits. So I’m guessing he’s got his speed back!
  16. The end of the game was special in several ways. Jorge López locking it down. And beloved old friend Nelson Cruz stepping out of the dugout into the on-deck circle got the crowd‘s attention. Then a very warm ovation when he took his stance in the box. Best of all, López struck him out swinging to bring this comeback win to a satisfying conclusion.
  17. Next to us and in the row ahead of us were a family of seven celebrating the first birthday of the cutest Twins fan in attendance (and not my grandson!). Two grandmas, one grandpa, an uncle, two parents, and the birthday boy. All the cooing and squirming and parents leaning and turning made it hard to see either the pitcher or the batter or both. But hard to play Mrs. Grinch with all that baby goodness! The kid had a big smile on his face through all the ups and downs of the game, never a cry or a whine, unlike some of us grownup fans. 🤣🤣
  18. Nice write up, Sherry! We were at the game today, and leaving the bases loaded again was so frustrating! But it was fun to see Kiriloff looking so healthy, the defense sparkled, bailing out Ober more than once (lol) and ultimately the bats came through. I’d never seen the Padres in person before, and that murderer’s row of Tatis and Soto and Machado and Bogaert was quite impressive. We sat in section 108 this time with our flex 20 plan.
  19. I’ll be there on Thursday, too. With almost equal records the Dads “scuffling in third place” says a lot about our division.
  20. I appreciate having the starting pitcher comments. I’m very impressed with Pablo López.
  21. Chiming in late, but it’s been a busy week. I think the loss of Farmer to that wild and wicked pitch by Giolito has hurt the team more than could have been expected. We were at the game on Wednesday, and my explanation to my guest of why there were a few regulars taking the game off (Buxton, Polanco, and Taylor) and the replacements mostly our third or worse options at the position (Solano at second, Castro at third, Gordon in Center) was that it resulted from the loss of Farmer. As far as giving players days off, it’s not that Rocco chose to lose - what an odd idea! Instead it was a noon start after a cold couple of night games. The Twins organization followed its chosen pattern - not some bonehead loser manager. Buxton got his weekly day off. Polanco is being treated carefully on his return. And Taylor reported feeling weak. Maeda gave up a lot of balls in play, but as others have mentioned, the defense was shoddy. The absence of Taylor put Gordon in center. That meant that second base needed someone else to fill in - and with Farmer out and Castro at third so Miranda could DH for the day (and he hit his first HR) - the very shaky Solano was apparently the only choice. Was going to be tough to win this one, that’s true. Still, it was so fun to see Gallo hit that monster HR. The speed and authority and sound and no-doubt quality of Joey’s home runs remind me of Jim Thome.
  22. Steven, thanks for another fine post. You’re one of my favorite TD writers!
  23. I’m a Luis fan, but want to point out that this specific stat can be quite misleading, for two reasons. First, labeling a play an error relies on the subjective judgment of one observer. Second, and more significant, errors are only called when a fielder makes contact with the ball and doesn’t complete the play (and the observer decides that it should have been made). Fielding percentage accounts for official errors on balls a fielder handles. So with Arraez’s limited range he doesn’t reach quite a few balls. We’ve all seen balls scoot by fielders or drop in when the fielder doesn’t react quickly enough. Those are mistakes but not the sort of mistake called an “error.” No touch, no foul.
