I agree that putting Carlos on the IL is the best move once there's a roster crunch in the infield (if not right now!). Move Lee to shortstop while CC is out, put Luke at third if his arm is strong enough, keep Eddie at second. If Willi comes back soon enough, put him at third, and Luke and Eddie platoon at second.

I was in a back row in section 107 for Sunday’s game, so from my vantage point I also didn’t see how the Jimenez play along the right field wall ended, either. The crowd sure held its breath and wondered how he was for quite awhile, so it was a surprise to see him stay in the game. I agree with other commentators above that there was a certain feeling of disappointment or dread after the top of the eighth. Made the comeback so much sweeter. Went quickly from “well, darn - how could it happen that Cap’n Jax wasted a fantastic performance by Ober” to “oh my god what Royce just did” to “don’t let Duran blow it” to “whew, we got it.” Hard to be sure from my spot in the stands, but it sure did seem like the home plate umpire was “pinching” pitches on the edge of the zone, especially on the outside corner.

Rocco seems to try to get his bench players in when possible, to keep them loose and engaged. Thankfully with Margot on the IL there’s no perceived need to have him pinch hit. His complete lack of base hits in that role reached unsupportable levels. To be fair, I believe Margot did draw some walks and hit sac flies as a pinch hitter, but still…

I was prepared for a loss when I arrived at Target Field today, to be honest. Facing Nola with Okert et al. and a depleted lineup seemed a tough row to hoe (do we use that cliché in baseball?). We ended up outplaying the Fantastic Phils in the eighth and ninth. Duran was overpowering, and small ball took us home. I was in section 120 and had a good view of the action. It seems Marsh got fooled on Santana’s long fly to left center that went for a two run double in the 8th. Gleeman has said recently that balls hit there this year seem to just miss going out, perhaps due to the construction of the skyscraper across 5th street alerting wind patterns (?).

Thanks for putting these Almanacs together, I really enjoy reading them. I grew up a Braves fan in Milwaukee, never much of a Brewers fan after the expansion Seattle Pilots came to town when I was in high school. But I did attend some games - it was fun to see some stars from the “Junior Circuit,” and I saw the Twins a few times in County Stadium. One thing that seemed to happen every time - Harmon Killebrew would launch a massive home run to win the game. It wasn’t possible to hate a man like him even when he beat us. Same went for me when the stars from other National League teams would play the Braves. I have memories of seeing Stan Musial and Ernie Banks, two other opponents a kid could only admire, like Harmon. Puzzled to this day that the Killer wasn’t elected to the Hall of Fame in his first or second year of eligibility.

Astros (Arrighetti) v Twins (SWR); 7/7/24 @ 1:10pm CT
Melissa replied to Squirrel's topic in Archived Game Threads
At Target Field for this one. I like Sundays ‘cause of all the kids. Today I see so many wearing the Joe Ryan 41 jersey they gave away at the gate to those under … my own age by a very long shot. 🤣 -

Twins Promote Top Prospect Brooks Lee!
Melissa replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here at Target Field to see Brooks Lee and David Festa. The future is now! section 107 -
So good to see both Buck and Carlos C. on such a tear at the plate! And Mr. Ryan dealing from the mound. I suspect someone or other will say “But it’s only the A’s,” to which I say every win counts! Go Twins!

I was at Target Field for this fun game on a perfect summer’s evening. The way the Twins batters went down so quickly in the opening innings helped keep the game short (2:09), with much of the home team action in the bottom (not top) of the eighth. When Larnach came up to bat with two on, I was hoping for a walk to load the bases for the inevitable Royce Lewis grand slam in his first appearance at home in 2024. Larnach’s sac fly left only one teammate on base for Royce’s monster home run, but the crowd nonetheless went electric watching it soar into the upper deck. Quite a show.

The Twins Almanac for June 1st
Melissa replied to Matt Johnson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very interesting! Thanks. -
Thank you, Melissa - I really appreciate these articles of yours! I’ve been to two games so far this year. Both were weekday day games and both were Twins wins! I only take a little credit lol. The first was the third Dodgers game on April 10th, when Carlos Correa made that magnificent throw to the plate to preserve the slim lead in the eighth inning. I was seated in section 120 behind third base so had a good view of the play. I got there super early since I hadn’t been at Target Field since those playoff games and wanted to soak it all in. It got too hot sitting in the sun so I moved back into the shade halfway through. High proportion of Dodgers fans in the stands and concourse. My other game so far was the fourth win over the White Sox this past Thursday the 25th. I sat in my more usual section 108, behind first base. This was the back to back home run barrage game. So fun! But it was a little tense being down 2-0 until the sixth. Luckily the team kept scoring, so a late threat from the Sox could be snuffed out by Jax and all was good. Simeon Woods Richardson pitched a workmanlike five innings. Lots of school kids milling around, which made sense when I saw a high school baseball team run onto the field as soon as the major leaguers cleared out. I didn’t dare take my rambunctious little beagle boy Reggie to the Bark in the Park game, but it was fun to see some of the canine action on TV.

I was at the game and it was fun and tense. The throw to nail Ohtani at the plate electrified the crowd! Correa’s tag on the caught stealing was also unbelievable. tiny nitpick - from where I was sitting (section 121) that game-ending pop up from Betts was anything but “lazy.” It was hit really hard and really high. Took forever to come down and get caught. Felt like we got lucky there - a little bit more bat on the ball and who knows?

The Big Question: Minnesota Twins Shortstop
Melissa replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was at Target Field and that play was the best I’ve seen in person in my 70 years. I’m past ready to put all the offseason speculation and worries in the rear view mirror and ramp up the excitement for baseball! Go Twins!!- 25 replies

Twins 2024 Position Analysis: Shortstop
Melissa replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The less than stellar defensive statistics cited so often for Correa last year do not correlate well with the eye test. In the dozen or so games I attended at Target Field last season, I noticed Carlos’s frequent if sometimes subtle moves as the pitch was thrown. Some of the defensive statistics rely on distance travelled to reach a batted ball, but don’t reflect a savvy player’s subtle moves well if at all.- 17 replies

I’m similarly grateful, oregon. And I too (born in Milwaukee the year the Braves moved to Milwaukee) still harbor resentment over their departure to the 13-state TV market down south after only a dozen or so seasons. The move of the original Senators to Minnesota in 1961 was also a factor in constricting the reach of the fan base. Ironically or not, I’ve now lived in St Paul for forty years and am a partial-season ticket holder for the Twins!

Is the lead photo of Festa? As always, TD doesn’t bother to caption its photos. I’m now thinking this is a deliberate click bait-ish strategy. One sees the photo without identifying name or number and has to read way into the article to be able to tell or guess which person is being featured in the photo. Sigh.

Could a Non-Roster Hitter Help the Twins Roster?
Melissa replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m guessing that the photo of the Astros player at the top of the article is Goodrum? SO, once again ( and again) I ask the TD leadership to please, please add captions to photos, especially when they’re not the most well known and recognizable players. does anyone here know how to send in suggestions like this to the TD staff? My repeated requests have never even been acknowledged.- 36 replies

How Will Carlos Santana Fit In With the Minnesota Twins?
