Buxton out for Detroit series, may return healthier

Typical mn sports player. Personal accomplishments over team accomplishment. Absolutely incredible that he played in the AS knowing he’d be out the first few games when back

When I saw the headline , my first thought was he further hurt himself in the allstar game  ....

Relieved to see he got treatment for faster healing ,,,,

GO BUCK , get healthy and get that average and production going ....

It was his first ASG. He had every right to want to go.

So, counting days, if he would have gotten this treatment on Monday instead of Wednesday, he would be ready to play today. Hope the Twins sweep so nobody can look back and say these were the games that kept the team from reaching the playoffs.

Just the same as any other losses during the season. I’m glad he played. It’s Detroit. Let’s get ‘em.

1st time all-star who hit what .212. leading up to it.  Deserved the right to be there, not so much.  Arraez, yes, Buxton not.  Yes he hit the game winner of an exhibition game, but also struck out, so the fans got to see exactly who he is.  Help him heal faster move, just put him the 10 IL and be done with it.

So Twins baseball players are making personal medical decisions that impact when they may or may not be available to play for the team.  Where have I heard that before? LOL.

All sarcasm aside, get better Byron - just love to watch you play ball.

The Twins have bats: Kirilloff, Arraez, Polanco, Miranda, Correa, Kepler, and Urshela. Garlick, Gordon, and Celestino are pesky. Sanchez can hit bombs and has been decent, better than expected and Hamilton can be a bonus. The Twins should NOT have to worry about scoring runs. i think we should have seen the downside to these guys and now they mash. Buxton can take some games to heal.

Still could attend. Did not have to play. Team is playing like crap and they need to get off to a hot start if they want to make the playoffs. Instead he chose a meaningless game

Sorry, but if this injection could have been done Sunday, or Monday, and was delayed intentionally to play in the ******* ASG...I would be pretty damn disappointed to learn that. In Buxton and in management.

Yeah, cause that's more important than his first place team.

God people are judgmental af about everything. If Byron felt it was important to play in his very first All-Star game, good for him. God forbid that he doesn’t lay down on train tracks for the fan base at every turn.

Just another reason why this team is going nowhere

First of all, Buxton was well within his rights to attend the game. He's earned the right and the honor. And as fans, we should celebrate what he did.

Second, I did initially hope he would opt out to actually playing to continue rest.

Third, I don't know about you, but it's damn hard to get in to a doctors office without a few days to a week sometimes.  Specialists can be a month! Are we sure Buxton, even with the power of MLB, wasn't already on a list? If it proves true MLB and the Twins had specialists on speed dial and could have had this done days ago and chose not to, then shame on them! But if said specialists had other cases on the books and couldn't fit Buxton in for a few days, then shame on anyone who wants to blame Buxton or the Twins or anyone else.

Really???

Buxton is COMITTED  to being a Twin. He's playing and doing some amazing things in the OF and at the plate while nursing a bum knee.

He appeared at his 1st All Star game and gave notice to everyone about himself and the Twins. It was a moment to be celebrated by Twins fans everywhere.

But we're going nowhere because Buxton is still producing and doing everything he can to contribute.? And he's the reason a still flawed team is in 1st place at the break? And he's enduring PAINFUL procedures every few days to drain his knee. And now he's having yet another needle inserted for a therapy to hopefully "fix" his knee, or at least make it better.

I'm not trying to be mean or angry at all. But how in hell is Byron's working through knee procedures any sort of the "Twins going nowhere?"

At this point it doesn’t matter. The team needs way more than Buxton. And a lot more. Best to have Buxton healing for August and September, if possible.

People need to chill, hes playing through an injury and this could help going forward.

Let the man enjoy his accolades, its his first ASG and he came up huge in it.

If they can't win without him they won't do **** in the playoffs anyway.  A successful baseball team does not rely on one player, see Mike Trout.

It was delayed  so he could  go and play  , then made starter , because of an injury  ....

I cringed  ,  he made it through without further injury  ... then the day after the allstar game he got his  ?....

He's playing in pain every day, and people want more. I hate people sometimes.

And some of them demand more, not just want it.

Embarrassing to me how many twins fans are defending this. Saw a couple posters on mlbtr mentioning how strange our fan base is for praising his all star HR over what happens during the season.

dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox fans would never take that crap and team reporters would destroy them, and then there’s twins and mariners fans ecstatic that their best players are missing the games that count because they did so well in a glorified scrimmage and talent show when their teams are just hanging onto playoffs hopes.
twins were one game up on Cleveland at the break. Just shows where Buxton and Rocco’s heads are at and likely why that duo will never bring Minnesota close to a title

That's not the point. Do you hate yourself, as well? Or Is it your contention he should shut down for the year? That he should have quit playing in April? If not, the "pain" is irrelevant. It's beside the point. It exists. Either way.

The point is the timing of the injection. He must have done it in order to be on the field more, correct? Then why delay it, which cost him at least 2 games?

Not to mention, If he's "playing in pain every day," why would he go to an exhibition game?

For the record, players opt out of the ASG all the time.

I understand being proud of a selection to the game. Anybody would be. But intentionally forgoing actual games?

That's just wrong.

I don't think there is right or wrong here, personally. I hope the shot works and he's better for it and can give us more on-field time after. That he's missing two games over it? That's between him, his doctors and the team, imo. Disappointed to not see him on the field? Yes. Think he should have foregone the ASG? No. He was given the honor, he deserved the choice, whether it's what any of us think.
