Buxton out for Detroit series, may return healthier

Baseball is, first and foremost, a team game. An individual who thinks they are above the team is wrong. Playing with and managing pain is part of a plan to help the team. Delaying treatment to play in an exhibition is not helping your team, many examples just this season of players skipping All-Star selections to rest nagging injuries. Getting hurt in said exhibition game (or "skills" contest) also does not help your team, though I read somewhere Rodriguez made more in the HR derby than he will in salary. But I guess todays game is all about tape measure HR's and players collecting massive salaries (more than generations will ever spend).

I like Buxton and respect what he has gone through, but I think the decision to delay treatment until after the ASG was the wrong one.

I see this as the same thing as allowing paternity leave. It’s important to the player, and probably to the family. It costs the team a couple of games. They are humans. Treat them as such.

Wow, not what I expected to see in this thread. First off this was likely a procedure recommended by the club. We could continue the play with days off, or try this treatment and possibly get more play in the season. Yes because he played in the All Star game he missed an additional 2 games. But that isn’t really the question here. If he wasn’t willing to go along with management he could have refused the treatment.  Honestly get even more rest days on top of an easy All-Star weekend honestly this could work out as good as we could hope for.  Add on top we swept anyway.
