Does this mean Garlick to the IL? Or is he in place of Sano? I get confused counting when I get past 10 fingers.

Haven't seen anything about Garlick, but they did send Sands back down. That was expected.  It looks like Gray will be activated by the end of the week too. Must be some moves coming.

I thought we were supposed to be demoting prospects today,  not adding new ones.  Although I am really excited about this one.  I am not sure he is going to let the Twins send him back.

Really excited to see him.

I doubt he's getting called up to sit on the bench, so Urshela must be getting bumped. With Garlick out and a non-outfileder getting called up, I have to think the Twins plan on using Urshela in the OF a bit? I see one total inning for Urshela in the OF, but I guess lack of OF reps didn't stop the Twins from sticking Arraez and Gordon out there with next to no experience. He seems to be among the most athletic players on the team.

From what I understand in the Game Threads, you know shoes pretty well. Try taking those off.

Huh, I hadn't thought of moving Urshela off third. I don't really like that much, as Gio has been quite good at the hot corner.

Doesn't Miranda play 1B as well?

So we could see Arraez get lefty at bats there and Miranda Rights?

(And when your catchers are both batting .200, it might make sense to lessen the DH role ABs for one of them.)

Miranda plays 3B and 1B and throws/bats right.

Have you seen Urshela run? Probably not playing OF, besides too valuable at 3B. Seems Miranda will be playing 1B for Sano, maybe give Urshela a day off occassionally. Seems to be good chance for Miranda to get some MLB time and give Kirilloff time to get healthy and get some confidence back.

I wouldn't be surprised by an Arraez/Miranda platoon at first with both of them as part of the DH rotation as well. Miranda mixed in at 3B as well for Urshella rest days. Don't see them moving any of those guys to the OF. Urshella is the slowest guy on the team and best defensive 3B so really wouldn't make any sense to put him in LF. They were pretty clear Arraez is done out there. Miranda hasn't played there since his 3 test games last year that didn't seem to go the way they'd hoped. Think those are the 3 CIFers while mixing in at DH as well depending on matchups.

Ueshela isn't coming off 3B, Sano is coming off of 1B, and Arraez and Miranda will get that spot. This tells me that Sano is going on the IL. Good idea, because he will get a few days off, then be sent to AAA on a rehab assignment to find his swing.  Miranda is coming up to be the RH hitting 1B, RH DH, and fill in 3B. Gordon is the backup middle infielder/ occasional OF.  Garlick may be going on the IL as well. Godoy goes back to AAA and we're down to 26 with Sands going back to St. Paul.

Right. I forgot about Sano being injured. An Arraez/Miranda platoon makes a ton of sense with Miranda also spot-starting at third and DH.

I agree. The interesting thing to me is what do we do if Garlick also has to go on the IL. He isn't my favorite player but you guys were right - he does mash lefties.  Maybe we go defense against lefties with Kepler and Celestino in the OF and Miranda takes the DH spot? I'm not a big fan of Sanchez as a DH and even less so when it means the only 2 catchers are both in the lineup. Also, who would we call up?

Its time to trade Sano for a high leverage role RP.

I suspect he will platoon with Urshella at 3rd.  Hope he gets consistent playing time.  If not it may have been better to get him more reps in St. Paul.

He will also backup 1st and 2nd, although I would think Gordon would get playing time at 2nd before Miranda, but who knows

I really hope not. Someone never having taken one at bat or played one game in the majors is not goin to immediately supplant anyone. Urshela is a better defender from what I can tell. And we have plenty of people to man OF, even with Garlick out. But, Miranda will get time at all the bases. Gordon will backup SS and OF. This is just my guess.

Sano and Garlick to the IL. They also brought up lefty pitcher Jovani Moran

He also plays 2B, and said in an interview that it was his favorite base, but, that really is meaningless

That makes sense. So it's Godoy and Sands optioned to AAA, Sano and Garlick to the IL, Miranda and Moran up. Roster goes from 28 to 26, still have 14 pitchers.  All good, although I would like to see Smeltzer get another chance given how well he is pitching in AAA. I think they are going to leave him there as the #8 starter behind the starting 6 and Winder since we don't have another starter at AAA ready to start in the bigs unless Sands gets it together. The rest of the AAA starters are all AAAA fill in types.

Looking forward to seeing this kid play! Well deserved, let's get him in the starting lineup tonight Rocco.

Agreed...good luck to him. I'd be excited to see ANYONE play other than Sano.

Yeah, I forgot about Sano being out, Miranda at 1B makes senses.

But Urshela has 1 XBH this year. I appreciate his defensive stability and professional at bats, but I'm not a fan of him Punto-ing 3B this year since the Twins have other options.  If not Miranda, then bring up Lewis for 3B if Urshela doesn't start flashing his bat in the next week or two.

It is hard to believe he only has 1 XBH at this point.....his D has been very good, but his O is not stellar so far.

I don't know if I'd cut bait on him already though.....but IF they could turn him into an elite RP (who the heck has one that would trade for a 3B?), I'd do that...and there just aren't many trades at this point.

I wonder how they determine Miranda over Terry?

Terry isn’t on the 40 man and isn’t much of a prospect.

Miranda will platoon with Arraez at 1st and occasionally play 3rd/DH. Once Sano is back he likely goes back to AAA.
