Where are they now? Ex-Twins in 2019

I have been intrigued by BP’s DRC+ and wondered how it saw Matthews and Hicks. According to DRC+ Hicks has had three years of above average offensive play (108,114,121). Matthews only had one season with a DRC+ above 100. It was his age 31 season.

I would be much more confident in the Hicks contract.

It's very easy to look at ratio numbers or isolate on a couple of stats.  It is quite another when you step back and look at the .236 lifetime average and the fact that he never had over 381 late appearances in a season until last year.  Now he has a recurring back issue that will keep him out of the lineup on opening day.

Not sure where the confidence in Hicks comes from because I have no idea where he is headed these next couple of years

Shoot, Hicks just made 70 Mil, just be happy for him.

This. And honestly, who cares what the Yankees spend on him? He signed a good contract for him, so good for him. Sorry he’s injured and hope he gets back out there soon.

People who read this page obviously have an interest in who signs for what and where so I have no idea what you are trying to say.

I hadn't seen anyone post anything about Hicks' back injury so I did and it serves to illustrate the reasons why I don't think it was a good signing.

Not sure what is up with the snippy, laconic posts that fall short of actually being developed.

Um, way to attack when my post was exactly what you said ... who signs where. I’m happy for Hicks getting a good contract for himself with the Yankees. Good for him. And I’m sorry Hicks is injured and hope he’s back in it soon. I’m not sure why we need to start talking about Gary Matthews, etc. I don’t understand the need for you to start labeling me snippy and laconic.

Oh OK.  Thanks for clarifying

I merely mentioned Matthews Jr. as seeing the contract as sort of similar and spycake offered his opinion.  Happy St. Patrick's Day and may your shin guards always be promptly removed

Speaking of John Ryan Murphy, he pitched the last 2 innings for the DBacks last night. 7 runs on 8 hits.

Now that's positional flexibility.

Despite hitting 3 homers in spring training, including a grand slam last week, Pedro Florimon didn't make the Atlanta Braves opening day roster. Nor did Ryan LaMarre.

Ex-Twin Michael Reed has been DFA'd by the Giants, to make room for Kevin Pillar (just acquired in trade from Toronto).

Reed was 0-for-8 with 6 K's so far with the Giants this season, so he might stand a good chance of clearing waivers...

Something's fishy about this. I can't imagine the Yankees wanting him for more than 3-4 seasons. If I were the league/players association, I would be looking at this as a round about way of manipulating luxury tax penalties in the future. The team probably wants him for 4/70, but offered the extra years to keep the AAV down and will bench/platoon/release/dump him when they bring in an upgrade to his spot.

There was an article this off-season and the Yankees manager called him one of the most under rated players in the MLB.   He needed a team like NYY to coach and believe in him.

How long do you think the Nationals will let Dozier play with how he is doing?  Will they let him have a bad first half and keep playing?

Brian Dozier is 2-22 so far. .091 ave.

Still very early, so I won't close the book on him yet, but this ranks 0.0 on the surprise scale to me.

He looked absolutely cooked last year. I know he later suggested he was hurt, but he was healthy enough to stay in the lineup, which means the numbers count.
