I really like Morrison. He hustled down the baseline even though it looked to be a sure out at first and actually made it closer than it should have been.

The turnaround has to start somewhere. So far, it looks like this might be it. Dozier and Sano have come back to life. Morrison has come back from the dead, Grossman is OPSing about 1.000 this week, LaMarre's insertion in CF has eliminated an automatic out at the bottom of the order.

 

Time to clean up on the White Sox with a sweep and finish off the homestand with a series win over the Angels and put the last putrid months in the rearview mirror.

I’ve been frustrated by all those one run losses over the past few weeks but I never lost faith in the offense. There’s too much talent there to be that bad for a long stretch of play.

 

I mostly worried whether the starting pitching would hold up but I’m pretty confident in that as well.

 

Cleveland is not a great team. This division can be won and Detroit sure as hell isn’t going to do it.

Whew! I really thought the Twins needed to take 3 of 4 from the Indians to have a sense that they can battle for the division...I wasn't optimistic after the Thursday's tilt.

 

Rosario was on fire this weekend, but perhaps what is more encouraging is that Dozier has started swinging the bat a lot better. (BTW, I love the batting order!) The bats seem to be slowly coming to life. (It is also true that the vaunted Indians bullpen appears to be less vaunted and more haunted than last year's version.)

 

Can anyone tell me why Gibson was pulled? Was he tiring or injured? The box score, of course, provides no clarity, but it seems as if he was cruising along and suddenly, he was yanked with two outs in the 6th.

 

Just thinking out here: Reed and Pressly may need some rest. Reed seems unable to pitch a scoreless inning in recent outings and Pressly has struggled a bit as well. I was surprised that Magill wasn't used in that situation considering he has had the most rest of relief corps.

I always thought there was so much potential if he could refine his approach, but this surge was not something I would've wagered on.

 

But I was also adamant the team stick with him and believe in him. I hope he keeps rewarding the faithful.

Just too bad there isn't room for both Cave and LaMarre for now. Looks like Cave has some talent. Of course, hopefully in a few weeks and a rehab this time, Buxton will be back 100% and get in a decent groove.

 

Both look like excellent 4th OF types. The good thing is, if they both keep playing well, the Twins can have the luxury of time with Buxton in rehab, completely healing his foot and in the process fixing that long swing hitch and lack of pitch recognition.

A year ago when Rosario hit 1000 PAs (maybe ABs) there was an article on this site and discussion on the KFAN Sunday radio show about how he had the poorest OBP among all LFs with 1000 PAs.

 

There was a big flaw in that comparison. It wasn’t comparing all LFs at the point they reached 1000 PAs. If it had there would be several other LFs with poorer OBPs. Some like Joe Rudi had very good careers.

 

It is so important for organizations to have patience with players 25 and under with even as many as 1000 plate appearances. The first 1000 is not a good predictor of how they will perform as they get to 1500 or 2000.

LaMarre seems to be quite speedy. I imagine he can track down some fly balls, and as was mentioned, he isn't an automatic out, so the pitchers are less likely to pitch around the hitters in front of him. We can't wait forever for BB to vogue Andre Dawson.

Garver took a wicked foul ball directly into the knee in Saturday's game, so I endorse the rest. The game was tied at the point you mention, with the possibility of Garver playing extra innings. Plus, he's not hitting anyway. Plus, Doze and Eddie were due up in the 9th!

Lots of comps of Rosario to Pucket, and I’m a fan. I wondered if he turned the corner last year and I feel pretty confident HE DID! Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!

I am glad to see that our offense has been completely cured in three games, and that what were previously 3 career black holes in the bottom of the order have now turned things around. The end result in the Central will likely be determined by which team straightens out their BP first. I doubt averaging something like 9 runs a game either practical or possible.

Three pages into comments on the game and no one has mentioned Sano's barehand pickup and laser throw to first? Some people criticize Sano's fielding but I have found him to be a very reasonable third baseman. Plays like this one aren't commonplace.

Nice win, good series for the Twins. After the first game I was wondering if this was going to be a series where it all fell apart for them, and they ended up taking 3 out of 4. And this game really was big: taking 3 out of 4 against a division rival rather than let them salvage a road split is a really good thing.

 

Gibson looked great early and then it looked like he started missing his spots in the 5th & 6th. Encarnacion just brutalized us. Ugh.

 

LaMarre had another very nice game, Sano had a great play...but this was all about Eddie. Imagine if he'd managed to make that catch at the wall too? (It was a great effort)

 

I hate running out an 8-man bullpen. Magill sitting for 5 straight games? Sure limits the bench when you have that nonsense going on.

Dating back to 2016, the Twins have not lost any game my daughter has attended. (That includes a dozen last year and two so far this year.) If they'd like to provide her two season tickets next to Rosario's family, I think we'd have the pennant wrapped up this year.

hes good at charging in on a ball. His lateral movement is a bit limited. He’s fine fielding wise, so if he can reach his potential hitting, he’ll be a monster.

Agreed. I'd add that he has improved to "adequate" on popups - it's still more likely for his shortstop to reach a foul pop than him, but at least he doesn't butcher the ones in fair territory. All in all, his strengths and weaknesses at the position add up to approximately adequate overall, which will be more than plenty if his bat meets expectations. I'd rather have Sano at third and Escobar at SS plus a real DH, than Sano at DH and Escobar at third with Adrianza at SS.
