I think they made two mistakes in last year’s sell off.

1) Outman

2) Not taking the Boston trade for Joe Ryan

Offense has been punchless for several weeks. Only 6 HRs since the ASB and bottom 4 in OPS and wRC+.
 

They were riding unsustainable RISP stats. We might be seeing a pretty big regression to the mean.

They traded Brock Stewart for Outman. That’s a pretty easy google search.

The articles this week said the offer was Tolle and Abreu for Joe Ryan.

If I am remembering correctly, Dobnak had some type of middle finger injury that affected his ability to throw his sinker.

Happy for Randy Dobnak. I was always hopeful that he would be part of the solution in the Twin Cities, but it didn't work out.

Not to worry - they called up Tristan Gray and they continue to believe in Roden who is almost up to his lifetime 191 average.  Call up some young studs - Walker, Gonzales, Culpepper.  Give Wallner another chance.  This is ridiculous management of prospects and roster.

I suspect other teams are looking at the Ryan record this year and in past years after the all-star game.  His second half fade does not make him look like a smart pickup for a team wanting to boost their end of the year record.

Stewart still had 2 years of arb left on his deal. And while I agree that they were right to trade Stewart while he had some value, I would have much preferred a lottery ticket than an incredibly questionable rehab project. And this isn't from hindsight, many of us were complaining about that right after the trade happened.

Shut out by the two worst pitching staffs in the AL in the last week. I don't think there should a sell off like last year but some trades for the future need to be done. If its a trade that also helps this year great, but don't mortgage the future for this year.

Dobber was a very good GB SP, who served the Twins well. But he didn't have a KO punch which led to some long counts & base hits. He developed a new slider & started to strike out hitters during ST. That pitch put a lot of stress on his middle finger, Because it was a new pitch, he wasn't conditioned for it & Twins wanted him to use it all the time instead of only when needed for that SO pitch. That screwed up his finger, which he never recovered from. 

I'm happy that the Dobber is back to his old self (that I hoped he would) with a good INF to back him up. I was hoping that the Twins would shake themselves off & punish the BP, but that never happened.

I agree with this. With a little better defense, that could have easily been a 1 or 2 run outing for Joe. 

The Perez triple, with a healthy Buxton that could've been an out, but at the very least should've only been a double.

The weird Brooks Lee play on the attempted bunt could've easily been a double play if he played it differently.

Royce could have been given an error on that 4th run. Just gotta make that play.

Been a Randy Dobnak fan from the start, and I won't stop now. He always had the stuff to get guys out, just a problem staying healthy. This was not a failure by the Twins, just bad timing.

Griffen Jax, on the other hand... Twins blew it with that guy. Should have given him a legit shot at starting. Epic fail.

Dobnak is getting chase rates like his prime and he's in the ball park of where he needs to be with the ground ball rate so far this year in the minimal playing time we can review. The version of Randy Dobnak the Royals have seen is an adequate #5 rotation arm, but the stuff and exit velocities suggest it's just a matter of time.

The Twins' lineup is looking awfully punch-less right now, though.
