Having Buck pinch hit showed once again how tone deaf Rocco's 'management' remains.

I don't bet on sports but I wonder what the odds were for a strikeout during that AB

I don't know what the odds were  but it would have been a safe bet  to make that he would and then double down that it would be looking ...

I'm sorry buck , your just not fun to watch right now  ...

Bad news ...

This was a very upsetting  home series with Detroit winning 3 games in our home , embarrassing really  ....

All I can say is that these two teams are terrible  , bad disciplined baseball  and Detroit out played us ...

14 strikeouts  , 7 hits , mental errors ,  bad base running  again by Solano , Varland not on his game  again  , I'm really pulling for this minnesotan to take us the distance , he's worked hard to get here  , maybe driveline will work for him this off season like Joe Ryan did last off season  ,,,

Good news ...

Welcome to the show  ... Balazovic  made his debut and pitched fairly  well for 3 plus innings ,  1 walk , a few hits and some strike outs  ( no runs ) , big fella throws in the mid 90's , I'm sure they will option him back to st. Paul ...

I hope all the twins make reservations for driveline this winter because they need more help than they are getting from our staff ...

Badoo never played with the Twins, Cave was never considered a starter, Hicks we needed to have more patience.

Some here moaned when the Twins let Badoo go, Cave played more game than Kirilloff has, Hicks was in the same boat as Kirilloff when he was dumped, no difference.

I didn't get to watch much except I did see the almost rally in the eighth. How did Jordy Blaze look?

Mediocre. His fastball is fast but straight. He's not going to last more than one time through a lineup.

I certainly don't have any profound wisdom or suggestions to offer at this point. Do we need a new batting coach? A big roster shakeup? I don't think Rocco is the biggest problem. We just can't seem to string any hits together and score runs. Too many strikeouts. A starting staff that looked terrific the first month is now mediocre. Obviously, this teams needs to do something to get back on track, but I don't think making trades is the answer. Call up more of the youngsters and jettison some of the deadwood.

When it comes to Christian Vazquez... I know his numbers... I've watched him play. He has been a terrible hitter for us and this can't be sugar coated.

When Buxton pinch hit for Vazquez with the bases loaded in the 8th inning. I was thinking... No... don't do that... stay with Vazquez.

I'm still thinking about that this morning. Not the strikeout by Buxton... but... reaching the point where I legitimately felt we were better off letting Vazquez hit.

Buxton Point #2 - They elected to give up the DH instead of Buxton playing a single inning in the OF.

I don't care if we lost to the Tigers or the Rays. These two thoughts are bigger in my mind.

I want to add a third thought that occurred in my head yesterday. This one was also very strange.

When Taylor got hurt... I was thinking... Oh No... If he has to go on the DL... it's going to hurt us OFFENSIVELY.

It's getting weird.

Say it isn't so Peter, you have posted with the most unbridled optimism, don't give in! Go Twins!

Not giving up but It’s just really upsetting seeing twins lose to Detroit when they should’ve won 3 of 4 instead of losing 3 of 4. To have winning home stand have to take 3 of 4 against Boston. Can they yes but im Not sure-prove me wrong twins!!!

I loved Hicks.  He had some personality like Arraez and a few others. We got absolutely nothing back.

They have changed everything but Rocco and the FO multiple times.  Not sure we can lay this on him. They obviously need more practice but motivation as well. I thought Correa would bring some of that.  Arraez would bring a spark to this team. Watching the two highest paid players flop doesn’t help motivation wise.

I was just as confused. My hope was if he got a hit or RBI(s) it could have built his confidence.  One other thought is they thought Buxton was so good he didn’t need Spring Training.   Now I think he was still injured and they tried to hide it so it wouldn’t affect ticket sales. Same could go for Correa.

When will the team get production from SWR and Austin Martin?   Don’t hear much about them.  Been 2 years since they traded one of the best pitchers we had.  I know he wanted out but makes me wonder how much the FO recognizes talent.

You touched on it briefly when you said 'he wanted out". Berrios knew this team, with this FO, and this Manager, are never going anywhere. Making the playoffs with them is a stretch much less doing something IN the playoffs if they ever get there. Look at 4 of the veterans they think so highly of, Buxton = can't stay healthy, now can't play defense and can't hit. Kepler = can't hit, hasn't for 3 years now. Gallo = can't hit, never has, never will and was given $11M as if he was going to be a savior. He isn't worth $2M. Correa = has injury issues that the Giants and Mets didn't ignore that the Twins FO did, also can't hit, never has been a hitting phenom and never will be, and now has 6 years of making superstar money and can play like an average Joe due to their stupidity.

I think they are doing whatever they can to keep Buxton in the lineup knowing how important he is to the lineup.

I think it is impossible to hide what is happening.

Why doesn’t the media ask questions or Rocco address the strikeout situation in the press conferences?

Exactly. They are on pace to set a new MLB strikeout record and nobody even asks. How many Twins hitters start their at bat 0-2, watching the first 2 pitches go by. Buxton struck out on 3 pitches Saturday, never even took the bat off his shoulder. The team strikeout percentage against Detroit was 42.5%. Completely pathetic. Managements hitting philosophy apparently is, hit a home run or strikeout. It's not working. We need change and in a big hurry.

The media has been asking, and Rocco has been talking about them. There have been at least half a dozen articles written about them the last couple weeks on The Athletic, MLB.com, all over. He's asked all the time. Rocco says they're a problem, says they're working on it. Now whether or not we believe they can be fixed is one thing, but the media is asking the questions, and Rocco is answering the questions. Even Popkins went on the record, and was available to the media recently to talk about the Ks. Admitted they may be overwhelming players with too much info. They clearly haven't found the answer, though.

Meanwhile, Eddie Rosario..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The following comment will probably be jumped on by many of you, but I 100% agree with dxp's comment.

Looked at Atlanta's box score this morning.  Down 5-0 in the second inning, Eddie hit a 3 run home run to get them back in the game.  His two run blast later in the game, put it away.

Eddie has 37 RBI and 13 home runs.  That is after missing the start of the season with an injury.  After a slow start, his average is up to .265 and his home runs and RBI are more than any Twin.

I said it when they didn't resign him that they were cutting the heart and soul out of this team.  Look at who has been playing in left field since?  Meanwhile he was the Series MVP, wasn't he?  And I doubt he would cost more than the $11M our current left fielder is making.  Yesterday, our left fielder was 0-4 for 4 K's.  Eddie was 3-4 with a walk, 2 home runs and 6 RBI and NO strikeouts.

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie!

(edit. after reading my own comment, I had a tear in my eye.  Damn, I miss this guy)

Twins are just a so so 500 team in a rotten division playing boring baseball.  Losing 3 of 4 to Detroit at home is inexcusable.  They were lucky to win the one game.  That too was very boring.  Buxton is a disgrace.  I'm not sure that he automatically becomes a viable major league hitter bh throwing him in center field.  If he's hurt put him ob the IL again.  Thus team is listless. Gallo is exactly what was advertised.  A huge strikeout king.  No wonder the dodgers and Yankees gave up on him.   This team is boring and listless just like their manager.  The FO seems content with nediocrity.

Poppins can talk all he wants about too much information, the strike zone is the strike zone. They swing at pitches 6 to 12 inches out of the zone and take pitches in the middle of the zone. Buxton took pitches all weekend and in PH at bat Sunday. Since letting Eddie go they seem to think LF is a plug and play position. There has been how many different players out there,I would guess over 20. MLB claims they have the easiest schedule left, good luck with that. By the time they finish with Boston,Atlanta and Baltimore they will be in third place heading to 4th.

Do they not teach hitters to protect the plate with two strikes on them? That was fundamental baseball when i was a kid (note: that was a long time ago). Standing at the plate and watching strike three right down the middle because you guessed wrong is stupid. Hey, just stick the bat out! Maybe the ball will hit it.

If he can't play CF, put him back on the IL until he can. He's not doing anyone any good as a DH right now.

Or sent him to the minors to get him quit looking like Sano and learn to being the type of player he was coming though the minors: hitting in the .270-.285 range and utilize his speed instead of trying to be a homerun hitter.
