  1. The only potential problem with that strategy is what happened to the Brewers last year. Often injured Washburn was offered the qualifying offer assuming he would explore the market for a multi-year deal. He accepted the offer (around $21 million which was more than double what he had been making) preventing the Brewers from using that money to help in other areas of need). Plus he has missed over 1/2 the season injured. If Jeffers accepted this years qualifying offer it would probably be close to 25% of the Twins total salary. I love Jeffers but if the return is good he needs to be traded.
  2. Sunday 4 of the bottom 5 starters in the batting order had batting averages under .200. And the 5th: .208. No wonder they scored 2 runs! Actually its a miracle they scored 2.
  3. The Twins are running out basically the same lineup as last year with about the same result: they can't hit!!!
  4. I think Larnach being on the roster tells us 1 thing: No other team wants to give something (anything) up for him.
  5. Totally agree about Ryan not being happy as a Twin.
  6. .260-.280? If he had been on the Twins and hit that for that kind of average he would have been their MVP. I hope de does.
  7. Not to mention, if Jeffers gets traded somebody has to catch.
  8. I'd rather see Hunter as a bench coach. I feel he would be able to work more closely one on one with the players as well as gain managerial experience.
  9. But the real question is: is it the hitting coaching or the level of talent the hitting coach has to work with?
  10. The only solace I can take from this awful season is Twins are not going to lose 100 games and despite how poorly they have performed they will not finish in last place.
  11. IMO, the Brewers should be the model the Twins aspire to. With payroll almost 1/2 of the Twins opening day payroll they have the best record in baseball and have won each of the series with the other current 5 division leaders: Blue Jays, Astros, Tigers, Dodgers, and Phillies. At one time they had all 5 opening day starters on the IL and now have 5 relievers, including their 2 frequent closers, out with injuries. By the way, the Brewers very effective closer use to be a Twin: McGill.
  12. 2 weeks ago I didn't think it was possible to "catch" the White Sox. Now I am not so sure.
  13. Just what I would expect when you pitch 3 pitchers with ERA's above 6.50 and use 5 "hitters" (and I use that term loosely) batting under .210.
  14. But the question is, can he hit?? As most Twins cannot. When the A's roll out 3 pitchers yesterday with ERA's over 4.00 and the Twins collect 5 hits, that isn't going to get it done. And we have seen it over and over again.
  15. I'm not concerned about the pitching. It's the offense that needs serious improvement. The first 2 games of the struggling Yankees the Twins combine to put up a total of 4 hits. Last night the last 3 batters in the lineup had averages of .130, .186, and .167.
